i dont think anyone here is bitching because geohot won't "make us a cfw so we can playz some copiez". i think what most of us are irritated about are his actions. honestly if you can't discern the difference then google reading comprehension and study up on it.

Please link me to a statement where Geohot promised to release a cfw that could run backups for the pirate community, if you do Ill happily admit I need a reading comprehension class, until then the onus of proving it is on you and you need the reading class ;)Also Im sure youd be ballsy enough to risk going against sony and paying thousands in lawyer fees to go against them in court when they try to ruin your life, its easy for everyone to be a keyoard warrior behind their monitors.

Actually, we're not discussing backup manager support or "piracy" - we're discussing Geohot actually releasing the firmware he just teased/announced. If he does THAT, then he'll get more respect, but right now? It reeks of "3.21OO" all over again; teasing something to stroke his ego and get time in the limelight, then vanishing without delivering.

Probably, who knows? I'm just commenting on his prior history and why people are annoyed. He claims he only started hacking the PS3 because Sony planned to exclude OtherOS from the Slim and then they took it from the Phat... he said he wanted to bring Linux back for everyone. So yeah; he modified firmware and hacked OtherOS back in, claiming he would release it when it was finished, only to finally turn around and say no because he was sick of people hating on him.
NOW he's doing it all AGAIN. Teasing people with exactly what he knows they want. It's pretty sad :\

The best we've got from him is "if i do release, it won’t be for a couple days" which, I agree with Sabin and we'll see jack shit from him again.
The guy is a cock though, he was the same with the Apple development stuff.
Having someone have the keys and not release them basically states that the PS3 is pretty much still unhackable 100% and now we just have different people with the ball. What they've found is all very well, but why go public with it if they're not gonna do anything. Oh, yeah, Geohotz ego massage. cockmonkey that he is.
So far, the stuff that's come out or being video'd is next to useless with out lv2 patching bar the 3.55 downgrade and personally I'd just prefer a key to run homebrew on a 3.55 than have the ball ache of downgrading and upgrading. Unless, that is, if someone can produce a proper 3.55 spoof.

yup agree with you guys. not even going to argue with someone over it. all you have to do is look at his past actions. as for being sued by sony... i wouldn't be dumb enough to give a shit what anyone on the internet thought of my cool name and dorky photo, especially if my hair was that fucked up looking. i would create some super kewl l33t name like z3r0 k3wL and put it on the net anonymously, if i was REALLY interested in furthering homebrew/cockblocking sony without legal consequences. doesn't take a fucking genius to figure that one out. i mean c'mon, the guy has all the fame he could need from the ipod/phone jailbreak.
as for it opening up the door to piracy that's just a given. i don't think you can have one without the other. am i wrong sabin? you're an encyclopedia of knowledge regarding this stuff, can you think of any situation where homebrew didn't lead to or equal piracy or vice versa?

It's never happened. It's that simple. There has never been a case of opening a system for homebrew that HASN'T lead to piracy, so no matter how these hackers try and justify themselves -- they're helping the pirates just by trying NOT to. Fail0verflow want Linux back on the machine? That's helping the pirates! Whether it's pirates of PS3 games... or pirates that are just going to use Linux ports of emulators or media players, all leads to piracy.
You can also pretty much fucking guarantee that all these moral guardians have pirated, and most likely still do, software.

sorry is this a retarted question but how do you install multiman. I already jailbroke the ps with my ipod but have since got a real dongle. I put the pkg file on my usb key but nothing shows up when I go to install package files. Do I have to remove backup manager first??

Maybe the PS3 doesn't recognise the USB stick you're using? Make sure it's formatted in FAT32 and don't put the .PKG (not .ZIP or .RAR) inside any folders.

Yes, that's all you need - though I recommend grabbing one of the addon .PKGs, like the themes or 800+ covers.
