Do yourself a favor, and get Dawn of War 2 instead. |
Or get C&C3, if you really want C&C. It was quite good. |
@iNatan: Actually, I didn't even get it with my own money. I paid my buddy in Linden Dollars on Second Life, which I earned with my job there. So basically, I got it for free, and free stuff is always good. And I do own DoW2... even managed to get it to run again. -points to his post in the DoW2 thread-
@JanKowalski82: Got my shiny retail copies here of C&C3 and KW. No need to get it on Steam. ^^

I just found this:
Constant net connection no longer required for Ubisoft games
It looks like DRM checks on games such as Assassin’s Creed 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction have been changed for the better. The controversial DRM system was launched earlier this year with Settlers 7, and required players to be permanently connected to the internet in order to play. Now the games will no longer pause instantly if a connection is lost, but will still require an internet connection to validate the install every time the game is booted up.[...]

What would be the point since Valve updated all their source engine games to the orange box engine?

v1 of the mod included the Ep2 content backported to HL2 and achievements
Then Valve released their own official update but it has some bugs: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1286478
They also didn't include HDR on most maps and they replied to an email that they weren't meant to do an art pass for this update meaning they didn't plan to release HDR enabled maps in the first place..
Since Valve officially brought the updated engine, models and achievements to HL2, v2 of the mod focused on fixing all the bugs and it brings HDR-enabled maps making the game to truly look and play as good as the PS360 versions (meaning with proper HDR and no bugs). I highly recommend it because despite being a mod it's a better "vanilla" experience of HL2, restoring the original bug-free gameplay experience and using HDR-enabled maps like the latest iteration of the game on consoles.

No, it's not better, it's different.
The mod I link to fixes bugs and updates the maps with HDR-enabled versions of them that they were created after the mod author carefully studied how the HDR-enabled maps on the console version look.
Cinematic Mod changes the look and feel of the game, uses totally different no-Valve style models and textures, includes gameplay changes, new music, new (unused) dialog etc. It's no longer the original HL2 experience.

The problem with the fakefactory mods is that they change the game to much. Makes the game look better.. But they add in a bunch of shit to every level that was never there to begin with. If I recall they also changed voices, and even the models of some characters (Not just polycount enhancements or texture resolution enhancements, but literally CHANGED the look of the character). So fuck that.
