I'm sure I'm still getting fucked over by FADE but somehow I'm sure it's not because of FADE that I can't even complete the MOUT course in boot camp. They freaking shoot me up :/

Sure. ARMA is that kind of game. It's a milsim. You can't have the same attitude you've when you play a corridor shooter, like CoD, BF or MoH. Like in real life, if you behave like a Rambo you'll die quick. Lean is your best friend, take cover and change position frequently. The AI is not really scripted so he can take different actions each time you restart the mission.
Remember this: Never try to be Chuck Norris (only in DM)
Edit: By the way there's a good Tactical Guide at http://ttp2.dslyecxi.com/

I keep dying and dying (single player mind you) and yet I keep playing. Why?
The AI seems so horribly stupid at times (no I wanted you to stay AT the corner not around it).
Plus even on recruit this game is freaking hard.
I just love how the AI (and my own character) keep pointing out enemy contacts and I just keep asking myself where they see those people.
Am I doing it wrong, am I just too stupid or what? O.o

No, that's arma and ofp for you, and the only way you will keep playing is if you actualy like to be challenged, not having everything given to you on a silver platter.

First time in years I actually try to figure out system requirements again.
Anyways.
Recommended specs are:
Athlon x2 4400+
Radeon 4850
2gb of ram.
So I've got 4gb of ram a radeon hd 5770 and only a athlon x2 4200+
Even on pretty low settings game runs like crap. what the hell?
edit:
I'm only running 1.02 of Arma II because everything above that FADE hits me :/

Reklis grab OA, use the registry entry posted by someone above, and you can patch to the latest version and get nifty performance with no fade kicking in.
The campaign itself is worth it, also the AI has been fixed and isn't as godly as before.

Ok, I'm sort of starting to rage here.
Can somebody give me a detailed description how I've gotta tackle it in order to install the latest patch?
Got the reloaded version of ArmA2 and the Fairlight one of OA
and every patch I tried from 1.54 to 1.57 gives me "wrong cd key" :/
edit:
I just hope a legit copy runs better than this. Crashing every so often.
But I think I'm hooked. Gonna buy it when I get the chance.

Clean the registry
Install OA-FLT
Do not apply the crack
Apply the new cd key
Code: | Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA]
"KEY"=hex:86,0f,39,40,26,aa,1d,e6,d4,ea,8d,2f,5c,e8,c8 |
Check the registry to make sure it's updated
Patch it with 1.57
Patch it with the latest beta patch

Look at that. And suddenly it works.
Somebody could have told me that it wouldn't work if I have ArmA II installed :/

Wat? OA is stand alone :/
i5 6600k @ 4.3 GHz | MSI z170 Gaming M7 | 32GB Kingston HyperX Fury | 850 Evo 500GB | EVGA 1070 SC | Seasonic X-660 | CM Storm Stryker

It may be stand alone but I had ArmA 2 already installed so that's that.
And apparently installing an non legit OA over an existing (non legit) ArmA 2 doesn't work.
p.s.
AI really isn't all that smart is it? Just started up the campaign and I'm not six minutes in and the mission failed because too many people on my side died.
Well that tends to happen when you run head first into open terrain that is occupied by the enemy you stupid AI shitbags!

Ok, just patched and it works with no problems.
Also tried to put down view distance to 800 meters + removed shadows.
Helluva FPS change now...

Yes, OA is a stand-alone expansion. It doesn't contain the content from vanilla A2.

OA campaign is annoying as fuck.
Trying to stop about a bazillion airplanes with either an old AA gun or some launchers. But you can't pick up more than one rocket at a time.
RAAAAGE!!!

Those are single shot devices though, unless it's more advanced AA equipment and you have a ton of stuff in your inventory already in place of carrying those large and weighty rockets.
I'd recommend BAF and PMC but I'm unsure if they're playable or rather "cracked" or something.
(Short but very focused and highly enjoyable and usually need less micro-managing than the A2 campaign or OA though OA is also improved in this regard though a bit short but prolonged via longer missions and objectives despite the campaign scenarios being relatively few.)
Current beta build also has some smaller bugs (VRAM detection algorithm is not 100% ready.) but it's improved over the previous one so helicopter AI is working as intended now amongst other things.

I have a 64bit machine so I had to use a slightly different registry entry but this worked for me; thanks!
For 64bit:
