I think it would be more apt to ask why you wouldn't want a 16:10 ratio.

HD television is 16:9 and most movies are 16+:9 so 16:10 does not increase my viewing experience.

It is possible to lower the resolution to the one I'm playing BGII in "1280x800" or scale it.

I don't just watch movies and play games on my PC. 16:10 is the preferred aspect ratio for desktop monitors for me.

True, but you get increased viewing space for almost everything else PC related. So it makes no sense not to get a 16:10 display if it is to be used with a computer. Besides that, while I realize that 16:10 displays are less common now - The better quality IPS panel ones tend to be 16:10 anyways.

And FYI iNatan -

http://www.amazon.com/HP-ZR24w-24-inch-S-IPS-Monitor/dp/B003D1ADUU

No clue if you can get that price outside of the US, but for the money and quality that display kicks ass. Since it is a business class display, it also comes with the business support methods.
