Easy A - 7.5/10 - not my taste but well above many of the movies in its genre. Emma Stone is a pretty good actress, this is the first movie I saw her in. Good thing they tried to do something different instead of a cliche highschool movie. Good comedy.

The original 13 by the same director is much better
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0475169/
if you've seen the original you really wouldn't understand why they bothered to do the crappy remake

You really liked it? Spoiler: | The zombie apocalypse is happening, resources are key to survival, two guys are riding in a car, they get robbed by two girls, the girls leave them to die - no mercy, later they catch up on their robbers. What happens next? They decide to become friends
Was it targeted at 8-year-old girls? The "realistic" thing to happen would be raping them, killing them and then maybe raping them again. Tuning it down a bit by simply killing them would have been fine by me as well, but the cheesy happy-go-lucky twist from the movie ruined it for me. The whole atmosphere was gone. | Easy A was a far more coherent movie and (in my opinion) less of a chick-flick than Zombieland.

I found it entertaining. I love action comedies, love zombies and love woody(which was the main reason I yelled that )
It's not really a movie I ever expected to be realistic, so I have no such complaints. And I prefer happy endings. It's a comedy after all.
I loved easy a too however.

A pleasant surprise. Although it wasn't as good as HTTYD or TS3, I really enjoyed the light atmosphere and imaginative characters (cute yellow minions included ).

Tomorrow When The War Began - 2/10
Where should I start with this atrocity? First of all the book was miles better than this hunk of shit, but even then the book was like having a homeless man piss in your eyes.
Spoiler: |
1. I know it's in the book but, it still bugs me anyway. The stupid lawn mower scene, in the book it is said that the yard they run into is completely fenced off and they are trapped. Hence why they blow up a lawn mower....But still a fucking lawn mower, christ I didn't know they were mini bombs. I know what your thinking Fuel tank, well there wouldn't be enough to cause an explosion big enough to decimate a whole backyard.
2. Poor soldiers - How is it that soldiers from this invading army could not shoot at simple targets, fucking impossible. More time on the range is needed for them. Basic infantry tactics, when approaching a target don't just walk casually up to them (in this case a fuel truck), with white light, this can easily be seen at night for miles/kilometers, even better if you have night vision.
3. Is it a War or a God Dam Soap Opera - These teenagers are too busy trying to hook up with each other rather than fight in an actual war. It just got to the point of being annoying. Not to mention that religous chick whinging about murder. Fucking weak link right there....Oh shit she's got the ability to fire a weapon (for the sake of an arguement I'll assume she's fired one before) from the hip on full auto and kill three soldiers in 3-4 seconds. I wonder why those soldiers couldn't do that? They've been trained on those weapons....
I could go on... |
In Conclusion: Another shitty Australian Film that should have stayed within Australia.

Those are pretty much the same complains I have. Although during the action sequences I thought of all those Van Damme action movies so I kinda let those slip, because compared to his stuff this was nothing. But it's hard to ignore since the rest of the movie feels like it's trying to be realistic, although the whole concept of teenagers doing guerrilla warfare is absolutely ridiculous.

I agree Van Damme movies have nothing on this but, like you said because the book and movie try and convey a realistic scenario, it's hard to let these points slide...
Spoiler: | The scene where they blow up the bridge is absolutely dumb. So let me get this straight, a bridge that is critical to the movement of troops and equipment from an established beach head, and has already had an attempt to blow it up. Only has 5 to 10 soldiers guarding it? There's no Machine gun emplacements, no cover for the soldiers, they just stand out in the open.
Now while I think about it, when that bird is shot through her side. The greek guy proclaims that "I've done all I can to stop the bleeding" yet he hasn't even placed a bandage around her, put any pressure on the wound. To be honest he hasn't done anything. |

Surprisingly not bad, and quite far from the usual lousy teen flicks. Not to mention that (the godly) Emma Stone delivered a great performance

skyline 6/10
i did NOT hate this.
yeah its not epic, but its miles better than their AVP monstrosity.
for one, the effects were really nice, and suited incredibly well... and when you think it was done for.. what.. 20m? come on, thats damn impressive really. yeah, visually it was impressive.
ive read complaints that it never comes across like its a big invasion or anything, and feels quite small and restrained, but i dont think that at all... i actually LIKED that it was taken from the point of view of JUST the experience of this small group, as opposed to cutting back and forth across different areas and characters and what they were doing... made it feel more like following people during the event, rather than having a very 'movie-like' overview that pulls you out of the story.
oh crap, there i said it... story.. yeah clearly the archilles heel of the film. on the one had, as i said above, i liked the 'unknowable', where theres no explained reason as to what they are and why theyre doing shit or any of that stuff...reminds me of the '...of the dead' movies, where one day you wake up, and its just 'happening'... so while usually it pisses me off, in this case i LIKED the feeling that we knew nothing, because the characters knew nothing... it works for me in this case.
negatives.. obviously... characters are all unlikable, and its a pity the 'realism' is undone by having all events seem to revolve around this group of characters... kinda felt like they only invaded JUST to abduct those 6 people also the ending was retarded beans on a what the fuck piece of bread, with a side helping of 'huh??'
so yeah, i think this was a case of a film being made that not much effort was put into because no one expected it to be any good... which is a pity, because if some effort HAD been put into it, it could have been great. the ideas, the handling of the concept, the effects... all done really well... this is a movie that could have been easily salvaged by a little creative thought in the story department, and dialing back the annoying characters a bit.
but worst movie evaarr as some claim? nah.
