Gotta laugh when I see Europe can not deal with some snow..few inches and oh no maybe a foot? I know operating a snow shovel can be complicated, but really folks? Are you that incapable of shoveling snow off your airports and roads? Unreal the sad state of Europe in dealing with snow. You might think snow was just invented yesterday! Hahahahah

Us Americans get out on the road like real men and make hilarious videos of cars slamming into each other.
My shovel broke last year in the shitstorm and forgot about it until it started snowing last week. Was running outside every hour with a broom trying to keep from getting buried

I drove via Denmark and Germany yesterday, and it was quite surprising how horribly scared of snow they are.. Everyone was driving like some scared bitches in 30kph on the big highways just due to a tiny bit of whiteness..
I cruised at speeds between 80 and 130kph overtaking most cars and had no problem at all with traction.. The road conditions I had there is what we call great driving conditions in Norway.
I hate you.

Where I live in a snow belt, we get about a few inches every day! We already got hit with storms of more than two feet at once! My trusty $10 snow shovel (snow blowers are for whimps!) removes all the snow each time. Our airport does not shut down for it. We do have delays when the sun shines too bright however.

Thats because your used to it, and by the sounds of it have it most of the year around, which makes it financially viable for the state/council/whatever to put more funds into coping with it. Other places which get it once or twice a year at most won't bother. It's not just EU though, I immigrated to Washington state this year and this place ain't any better than the UK when it comes to coping with the white stuff.

Judging by the news... I'd say most of USA and Western-Europe are panicking under higher levels of snow. Eastern europeans just pull the collars higher and life goes on.

the problem we have here atm is, that with about 60cm of snowfall, you can shovel the snow away from the road yes, but eventually you just run out of places to safely shovel it. as it stands right now, the windows of my room (staying at parents for xmas, living on ground floor) are half covered with mounds of snow that i have been shoveling towards the house from the sidewalk. meanwhile, on the roadside edge of the sidewalk there are tall and wide (like 1,5-2m high) mounds of snow. so, if you are driving along side streets and come to an intersection, you basically cant see what is happening on the road you are supposed to yield to, due to the huge mountains of snow. just a while ago a friend of mine got into a car accident because he was slowly creeping into the intersection to see if he can go or not, and the instant the nose of his car reached the intersecting road someone totally plowed into it.
so all in all, i dont really care about the snow in the airports etc. but the low visibility on the streets is such a fucking menace its not even funny. ive almost run over 2 people because they step out from behind the mountains of snow and think that drivers (driving on loose snow and ice no less) have fucking x-ray vision and can easily avoid pedestrians crossing at places without pedestrian crossings...

they have removed snow from the largest streets in the towns, but not the smaller (still often used) streets. seems that is changing though, i saw a truck and tractor removing snow down the street earlier, maybe they will get around to my house. sometime before the spring arrives.
