play oblivion today, you will still feel like playing one of the most beautiful games ever.

fallout did not provide a setting supporting a beautiful enviroment. i never expected more from fallout, and i know given another engine, like rage or whatnot, fallout (3/nv) could look a whole lot better, but its not all that bad. and it's definitely not completely the engine's fault.

Are you talking about Oblivion vanilla or with all the highres texture packs? If you are talking about modded Oblivion, that's an unfair comparison. If vanilla Oblivion looks great to you, your standards must be very low.

It seems they will use a new, internally developed engine for TES5.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.250561-Bethesda-Ditching-Old-Tech-for-New-Elder-Scrolls-Game

Now we can torture ourselves with the abyssimal animations in shiny new graphics.

The key words are "people and talent". Glad to see they have at least some plans to do something about it. Technology was never the issue. There are mods out there for all their gamebryo games that replace at least some of the dreadful animations with decent or even good ones. Replacing the current team of inept monkeys and getting some actual talent...that sounds promising.

Strange, yesterday (or the day before) I read on some gaming site that Skyrim would use a heavily modified Gamebryo. Oh well, as long as the new engine is RPG-friendly I couldn't care less.

Of course, if it had been actual gameplay content it'd be 50 pages. Laughing

Elder Scrolls 5, The Witcher 2 and Dragon Age 2 all in the same year.

Which do you think will take the crown?

You can exclude Dragon age 2 from that list as it has been raped. Witcher 2 certainly will take the crown for me.

TES V. Witcher 2 will most probably be the same as the first, for example lots of invisible barriers, can't jump/climb and other stuff that makes exploring the game your own way almost non-existant.

Didn't like DA much either, but those 2 games arent really in the same sub genre as TES, so its kind of stupid to compare i guess, DA and Witcher arent my type of games at all..

Well all of those games are RPG. But DA och Witcher have more in common. while TES have more in common with TW2 and other more oppenended RPG-games. Witcher and DA are more storydriven games, nearly like reading a book.

I like all of them though, TES and Witcher are the games I am looking forward too most. Am a little afraid of what they do with DA2, I really like part one...but it seem like they are changing the mechanics a lot.

TESV, cant wait for this 3D wRPG with updated graphics! It's all about atmosphere for me! No instances please, or reduce it to almost nothing like in Risen, this will make exploring 10 times more fun.

I would love that. Since I played Drakan years ago I want another game in which I can have so much fun riding a dragon. When I saw Divinity 2 the first time I thought that was it, but it wasn't. Drakan with a bigger world and more RPG elements would be one of the best games ever. If they make the dragons in this rideable I hope they consider taking and maybe enhancing a little the mechanics from Drakan. Also, next year, The Witcher 2 will take the crown for me probably. I'm mostly into exploring fantasy RPGs, but the first Witcher was better for me than most of the other RPGs I played.

I loved Drakan, think it was underrated. More of a action-rpg though, but still a fun game. I love openended worlds, but with less time on my hands as in my younger days, I can really appreciate a more streamlined rpg. Witcher was perfect for me, it had sidequests still you never got lost. I mean if you took two weeks off in Oblivion you didn't remember what you were doing at the point. Sure you can take notes..but well..

Still very good games though, just with my time I think Witcher 2 will me my rpg of the year Smile

The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard (1998)

Redguard is still my favorite game that I’ve worked on. Todd, Michael Kirkbride and myself worked up the story and all the puzzles over a few weeks of continual brainstorming. I’m pretty sure Fuddrucker’s was heavily involved in the process. Because the team was so small, I ended up doing a bit of everything on that game – I even built a few levels in 3DS Max, which is the first and last time I got art credit on a game. – Kurt Kuhlmann

Redguard was the last of our XnGine games, and one where we really worked on building the world by hand, as opposed to the random generation of Arena and Daggerfall. It also had 3Dfx hardware acceleration, and was our first hardware based 3D game. It was one of the last popular DOS based titles, just as Windows gaming was getting popular. The 3D acceleration only works in 3Dfx’s glide system. – Todd Howard

I hear you, that was really a great game the atmosphere, puzzles, just loved it.

CES 2011 or what that early show was called, Game Informer, XOM, PCGamer or similar magazine exclusive (With online scans following shortly afterwards, heh.) also seems likely unless they're waiting until E3 or some such with more solid and exciting marketing until the games release in (possibly.) November 2011.

Well you don't have to tell me three times Laughing

Any info on the engine, hopefully it's not an updated version of the last one, there are so many better engines out there like the one from Just Cause 2.
