How exactly would this work though ? I mean i can only assume you get to connect said external processor via usb port , so how exactly is that gonna have the bandwidth necessary to pull off ... any sort of relevant performance boost ?

It's back now. Intel sells that. Someone posted news here on NFOHUMP.
thats just a chip with a core or whatever locked out .

the things im talking about were a proper pcb circuit board, i cant remember exactly how they plugged in but they were advertised in computer magazines during the 90's.

my google skills fail me and i cant find an example Sad

Will be interesting to see what future games will come out that support and will require the extra expansion upgrade. It's unlikely that there will be a deluge of expansion only titles though. Maybe exisiting ones will get a framerate boost, and future titles may have extra features that take advantage of the extra processing power. However it would be nice if it bought something new to the table like DX11 does, over DX9 on the PC... and yeah as siad above, where the **** would you install it too?!.

This sounds like a really bad idea IMO. Why? Because ALL "booster" add ons for consoles have failed for a reason.

Interesting news today (or perhaps yesterday)...

Linkage

Sony are buying back the PS3 chip plant they sold to Toshiba in 2008. Once the deal goes through, they'll take control in April.

I can't help but feel the patent and the purchasing of the chip factory are linked.
