A new beta version [build 12606] of the Fall 2010 [alias 'Kinect'] dashboard has been leaked on the internet a few days ago and it seems like Microsoft added new protections to it. Several users seems to report problems booting certain games from recordable media on 360s with a modified DVD FW.
One of the titles affected seems to be Fable III. The game boots fine from any media on the current dashboard on a 360 with modified FW, but fails to boot from recordable media on the leaked/12606 beta dashboard ["This disc is unreadable"] - while the retail disc will work just fine according to #FW@EFnet.
Right now it's unclear which games, DVD models and/or modified FWs are exactly affected.
The new fall 2010 dashboard might get official released tomorrow [Tuesday Oct 26th 2010] (unconfirmed date, but it will be before Nov 4th anyway) to all 360 owners, so we suggest you do NOT update if you have a modified FW until we know more about these issues.
JTAG users should of course not update at all (will lock-out old CB and make the JTAG hack impossible), they should wait for a new rebooter.

I have first of the new dashboard betas (418 or something) And just wanted to update too newest 607 beta.
So I just shouldnt do it ?
Or is it just fable shitting bricks on new dash ?

Here's a chatlog from C4E about the new protections ["AP2.5 Checks"] added to the (beta/leaked) fall 2010 dashboard with new games:
[c4eva] New AP25 checks confirmed on new dash with fable 3, LT+ coming for required drives with SSv3 and anti AP25 included!
[c4eva] there are 5 ap25 checks done when xex is launched!
[c4eva] samsung doesnt have ap25
[c4eva] 360s LT+ will include this now
[c4eva] samsung and some old hitachi dont have ap25
[c4eva] samsung wont do ap25, it will be skipped (safe)
[c4eva] they will detect your drive changing to a samsung! [if you spoof to Samsung]
[c4eva] confirmation will need to be done on released retail kinect dash!
[c4eva] at this point, only new games check ap25!
[c4eva] kreon=fail!
The new final fall2010 dashboard is still expected to hit retail consoles on or before Nov 4th (Kinect release date).

So I presume not to update till there's a fully new and tested fw?

OK I couldnt resist and connected to live (flagged after failing ap25 on 12581) and updated to official dash.
Then I unplugged myself and FAble 3 STILL works! I dont know how but damn its great:P

And Its Jasper Elite I got in March this year.

I have a BenQ and a beta dashboard for Kinect. Just received my Kinect today and will play with it for the first time tonight. I also have 1.61 , I still patch all my games to wave 3

OK, now things are starting to make sense. AC Brotherhood should be protected by the new software. So that's why my waves patcher generated an error message. And that's why I *always* get the dirty disc error. Black Ops boots fine but Brotherhood just won't boot.
Interestingly: Brotherhood INSTALLS just fine to the HD! But when I tick the play box the disc error message pops up again.
I think I have a Benq or LiteOn drive -- should I update the firmware?
