I had a ps2 since 2 days before release in the uk, played it non stop for years . had an xbox for 1 of them years and it was gathering dust . Finally got it chipped to use it as a media center . Started dl'ing games for it and realised its far better, Only use the ps2 to play we8:le
Ps2 lost many of its High end exclusive titles . Hell look at how crap gta:sa runs on it ( I gave up on it , I'd rather wait 7 months to play it decently ). ps2 can't even handle pro evo soccer without mass amounts of slowdown . xbox runs it like a charm . For such a basic pc it runs the likes of riddick and doom3 Greatly ( occasional slowdown with splinterscell chaos theory when switching to nightvision , Fuck knows what it will be like in the ps2 )

I still gotta laugh at that picture. For how big the consoles are today, I cant see a 4ghz cell processor fitting into that thing, or anything else the PS3 is rumored to have. However the companies did spend 400 million on the graphics. So I'd imagine if they had the graphics to even compete with NVidia 6800 or surpass it, and have all the great launch titles, and have a huge library, it'd be unstoppable. I'd like to see a Tech Demo at E3. I know they said that the graphics card isnt ready yet, but they can atleast simulate it on a PC... even though it wouldnt show off the real hardware. If this is all true and its going where I think its going, it will probably be on the same page as the XBox 360, only with more titles.
What I also find weird is how people are suddenly eliminating Nintendo. I have to say that Nintendo has probably the biggest fanbase. Just because this generation with the GameCube they didnt offer its gamers much for its console, doesnt mean you can count it out just yet. The Nintendo Revolution can pull off a big shocker.

lol not just this generation of nintendo failed, the n64 was a flop too.
see facts are:
sony = winner of the console wars twice in a row, and so far undefeated
(yea and dont go all xbox-fanboyish on me here, this is a fact, just look at the sales figures, general popularity),
even higher possibility to also overtake the next generation, if the
hardware specs of the ps3 are really true.
nintendo = 2 wins, a 2nd place and a loss, tendency definitely falling, a
company nowadays trying its best to come up with new ideas and
basically trying too hard as most of these dont really appeal.
microsoft (xbox) = a 2nd place, a fairly good start for a newcomer in such an
age (the games dont appeal to me but opinions...), best
graphics of this gen, probably gonna be a good opponent to
the ps3 with the next gen console, some potential here.
sega = hmm this one is hard, with so many consoles here and there which
all actually failed, i dont know to which console generation to attach
them respectively. but to sum it up lets say 5 consoles - 5 losses.
i dont even know if i can classify dreamcast as a console of this
generation, i mean it came way before the others and couldnt even go
against the old psx. yes dreamcast is said to be the console with the
highest ratio of good games, but lets see, how many games did it have,
10? no wait shenmue 2 also came out, so 11.
i go along with sony, as it has contracts with better third party producers than microsoft, i dont care about the graphics, games are what makes or breaks a console.

Well, in order to call a system a flop, it would of had to fail as a whole. The PS had better graphics than N64, yes. Just because Sony defeated it doesnt make the N64 garbadge. It had a great slewth of games. It didnt have just a few games that were great in spurts like the GameCube has.
Yea, Sony is undefeated in the Console wars as of now. I agree it did beat the XBox in sales and in games library, but your still going to have a bunch of XBox fanboys who denounce it. I mean, lets face it... their going to argue the fact that you can do soo much with the XBox, and it has better graphics. Everyone forgets that money talks. Sony has won, but many there are quite a bit of XBox fans out there who think their system won. Yea, if the specs of the PS3 are true, I agree. I mean... it is a fact that Sony did spend 400 million on the graphics alone. I'm just saying that Microsoft will try to compete with that. Lets face it... specs aint exactly the greatest, and its not whats going to in the end sell the console. The games and the librarys are whats gonna sell. I dont know about you... but I dont buy a console for its specs (and who does?). I buy it for the games. Sony has the backing of a huge RPG front. They also have the backing of a ton of developers. So the key to winning in a console war (money wise) is to maintain a strong point with developers.

Well you just called the N64 a flop... is that a loss? Keep it in 2nd place than. I dont think that Nintendo is trying too hard to come up with new ideas, but much less failing in the graphics department (alot of the games have a cartoonish look, and its more aimed towards kids, being the average gamer today is going to want to play the adult games). Also, Nintendos big seller right now is its handheld systems. Thats where it makes its money. See, a normal company once a system comes out, on its past system it slowly phases down on the development of games. Like when PS2 came out, there were still PS1 games being made, but not at a fast rate... than it died pretty fast. But the Nintendo DS is out for awhile now, and the GBA is still having games out the rear. From what I can tell, Nintendo is cashing in from its handheld department, and is probably using that for most of its funds on the Nintendo Revolution. I'm not saying that the GameCube isnt making any money. But lets face it, if you look up on the sales of the NGC, its not doing so good. And the Resident Evil 4 game is what prolly prompted sales for it (even though the logic for a gamer is not to buy a system that only one game appeals to them). Resident Evil 4 was made specifically for the GC hardware. Thats why its taking long to port to the PS2.

This is the problem which sparks most console war debates. To be perfectly honest, the same games that are on the XBox, are on the PS2/PC. Only reason to own one is if you want the better graphics, exclusives, dont have a top notch video card for your PC, and do some extra stuff with your box.

SEGA has been reduced to game developing. I doubt they have the funds to start making a new console.

i dont comply, most of the top ps2 games arent available on xbox.
can you get mgs3, tekken 5, gran turismo 4, god of war, devil may cry 3,
katamari damacy or san andreas (sure its gonna come out but almost a year later) on xbox? no.
most of the games listed above are console sellers, so it in fact is a big deal that these are missing in the xbox library.
sure the xbox has its own top games that arent available for the ps2, so in the end its a matter of opinion ( i prefer the ps2 ones), so you cant say
the games are basically the same just with better graphics on the xbox, and especially not comparing it to pc games.
on the pc you can only get fps, rts and some rpgs, i use pc only for online games, cuz lets face it, there were no innovations in the pc games market for years, sure the graphics get better but i dont care about em, i want fresh interesting gameplay, which the pc simply cannot deliver in comparison to the consoles.

I think you got me all wrong. What I meant to say is the same games that are on the XBox, are on the PS2. In other words, what basically that the Xbox has, the PS2 has plus more games. The only difference is XBox has diff exclusives. In other words... PS2 has more exclusives, and a larger library of games. What games are on the XBox are on the PS2, and the PS2 has more. I clear that up?
Also, the PC is the strongest in gaming. You have to think that PCs are updated ALOT. They will always be for superior gaming. The fact is that money talks and console companys are going to want to have developers make the games for their systems. What would it be like if every single game that was on the PS2/XBox/NGC was on the PC? That would be no contest because the PC would win. So in order to make you buy their product, the consoles will release console only games. Than the people in the PC thread here (some are PC fanboys) will call whatever console game comes to the PC a shitty console port.
I mean you cant honestly say you'd prefer a system if all the games came out for the PC. They wouldnt be making any money and people would be just downloading for the PC. I would do. Why would I buy a XBox/PS2/ or NGC when I could play every single game from there on the PC? Thats why consoles have more gameplay. And if you wanted to be picky about adding a console controller to your PC... you could just buy a converter that does the job. But like I said... console companys wont let that happen. Why do you think Microsoft likes taking remakes of PC games and putting them on the XBox? Money.

Next time before you talk, try checking out how many they sold. And I wont even start with the whole dreamcast topic, but boy, you need to educate yourself about SEGA.
Anyways, I have'nt even been keeping track of the current consoles, besides the handhelds. They just dont have the spirit that they used to have.

eh, yea, genesis and master system sold weakly in comparison to the snes and the nes (aka famicom and super famicom).
i dunno about the usa but yea in europe and japan nintendo's system outsold sega's by far, on every guy i knew who had a mega drive (genesis) came 4 guys who had a snes.
and master sytem...just take a look at the game library, you can almost count em with with one hand, this console got shoved in between 2 generations: the nes and the snes so yes it sold badly.
and yea, dreamcast did sell like shit too, come on man, dreamcast hardly
even experienced the new console generation, it was almost dead already
when ps2 and xbox came out, and when was the last game that came out for dc, hmm ikaruga? that was like almost 2 years ago right? the dc production stopped like 2 years ago too, come on man, you cant compare dreamcast with today's consoles, it couldnt stand against the od psx either.

Yes, they sold weakly compared to nintendo's products, but they still sold good, very good in fact. The master system sold incredibly well in europe, and the genesis sold very well in the U.S. Not to mention the master system had a longer lifetime then the NES.
And I was just talking about dreamcast because it *is* a better system function/graphics wise then PS2 or gamecube.

you didnt completely understand my post up there,
i was talkin about wins and losses as in 1st and last place,
see with only 2 consoles in a competition if one of them sells only slightly less it gets the last place hence the loss, i didnt mean to say the consoles were flops
but they werent really up front in any generation.

ok its a matter of opinion if you like dc more than ps2 or gc, but this is downright silly. the dreamcast does not have the capabilities of ps2 and gc,
not function-wise and especially not graphics-wise, this is a fact.
maybe the texture quality of the dreamcast was roughly on par with the ps2 but the polygon count was nowhere near and the system didnt even use dvds,
the media was even smaller than on gamecube.
i also found the dc gamepad to be pretty uncomfortable and completely asymmetric in the way you hold it, like the n64 pad.
the only good functionality the dc had over playing actual dc games was being able to load up bleem and play psx games, and there was no need for a modchip.
in comparison the ps2 can play movie dvds, it can play games on dvd9, you can connect a hdd to it, play online on broadband etc.
i dont even have to speak about the dc's game library which was extremely small.
