the damage issue is not yet fully understood.

visual ones are enabled going on with the exp level, and seem to be based not on intensity but only on number of hits (as for the ferrari in the video).
however, damage detailing seems good in the premium cars (as the rally car in the other video, losing pieces, but still after dozens of hits), and "plastiline" styled in the standard ones.
 Spoiler:

Mechanical damage instead... still no certainty but only tons of rumors.

It's a lot more difficult than it looks as well. They could eventually make it into a proper career mode as a photographer. A bit like Afrika for cars where you go to races and have specific goals, or are hired by car manufacturers for promotional material.

I've played a lot of B-Spec lately. It starts off slow, but some of the races can be really intense and those last lap dashes for first position have had me off my seat on more than one occasion. Had one end in a photo finish that was agonising since I thought I had him only to have my celebrations cut short when the standings screen lit up. As something that you can take a step back from, for whatever reason (eating, drinking, relaxing), but which at the same time earns you money, prizes and progress... I like it a lot. It'll be even better when B-Spec online goes live in December.

Anyone else having a problem finding a pre-79 Japanese car? I keep checking the Used Cars and it never has anything pre-79 for Japanese. I am level 11 and loving the game. Just trying to complete beginner.

This game isn't as good as Forza 3. I was really expecting it to be from all the hype, but it isn't.

EDIT: in my opinion of course.

Wait, you have to EARN the ability to have your car damaged? That is just about the stupidest thing I've ever heard come out of a racing game. When you advertise it as a main FEATURE of a game you expect it to, you know, be available from the get go. Jeez.

Quote:
No, they have realistic damage. You just have to unlock it at a certain level.

Thats the stupidest shit i've ever heard. So does that mean we unlock better shadows later too?? Cause they are truly horrendous in this game.

Make a habit of checking after races as you never know what you might find. I personally need a European classic, so if you want to do a swap let me know (PSN: Cigoler). One will turn up eventually, it's just a question of being there when it does. I'm currently level 16 in A-Spec, and level 7 in B-Spec. I've played the game pretty intensively for the past 5 days and there's still huge parts of it I've not got around to fully exploring, let alone completing.

I've had my first taste of driving at night, in the rain, on the Nurburgring, and; yikes! That's going to make for some intense endurance races Laughing My car with all the aids switched off was careering all over the place. Was surprised to find it a genuine challenge to keep it on track, and best of all the feedback from the wheel was different than usual, neatly reflecting the conditions. Some of the graphics, like the individually modelled raindrops are quite low resolution, but I couldn't not smile when I smacked into the barrier and streams of water came pouring off of the roof onto the windscreen. It's got a great feeling when it's all fogged up as well, truly the atmosphere on that track is amazing, so much so I can't wait to unlock the official events themselves... but apparently you have to *get to level 25 at the very least* so a long ways to go yet!

Yes, finally a 73 Nissan Skyline appeared in the Used Cars and I was able to complete Beginner and get the trophy! Smile I pre-ordered GT5 at Gamestop and used their Mclaren Stealth on Daytona yesterday and it literally blew by the competition topping out at 210mph because I ran out of straight away. Cannot wait to get into the weather effects that sounds insane! What a cool effect to have the water come down your screen after hitting a barrier! I am now level 12 and addicted. I will check my European Classics and ping you. I will be on later this afternoon cst time.

Thanks,

MD

Mr. Yamauchi gave some answers to popular questions about GT5 on twitter.

Quote:
Flexible camera angles and “dynamic and wide-area lighting needs” are to blame for the sometimes blocky shadows. Yamauchi admits they are a problem and wants to improve them.
Yamauchi appears to consider the possibility of removing the in-game HUD (heads-up-display features) at some point in the future.
To unlock the Red Bull X1, you’ll need to complete the “Sebastian Vettel Challenge”, which appears at Level 30.
Online “lounge” functionality and other features will be added “one by one”.
Polyphony Digital continues to work on fully supporting the Logitech G25 and G27, though Yamauchi admits he would like a “new steering device soon”…
Mechanical damage options will be implemented in a new update for GT5 coming “early December”.
As you may know, many players noticed that GT5’s face-tracking functionality only worked in Arcade mode. According to Yamauchi, it’s not available in GT mode due to memory issues with the PS3.
In-game rewards (such as the monetary prize in GT5 Prologue) for your performance in online events is something Polyphony Digital is considering, and may be implemented in a future update.
Gran Turismo 5’s official, 2-disc sound-track will be released soon.
Yamauchi wanted to implement a “free roam” gameplay mode in GT5, where players could drive around, respecting speed limits and obeying traffic laws, and even exit the car to walk around and explore the environment on foot.
The YouTube replay upload feature had to be pulled from the final version of the game because it took a very long time to render and it consumed too much memory. Yamauchi is still considering it, however.

2 years??? more like another 4.
We've waited that long for a graphics update so trying to impliment a pedestrian walking bit will have them scratching heads Very Happy

Is there any way to just turn damage on from the start and up the AI from the start? Apparently if I hit lvl 40 or whatever it improves but the grind seems endless.
