Do some reading, or just uninstall it and sell it, you're better off doing so, believe me, lol... The game isn't for you then.. the driving model is second to none. No game comes close to the sim in this game... Only issues I have as others do is some odd shading effects and V-sync, the tearing is annoying at times. I'll say this again though, this is a simulator, not a game. I suppose you could play Arcade mode though. ANyway, outta here. |
This is such a fan boy post that I'm suprised at myself for replying.
I do understand it's a simulator (of sorts) but it's also a game. Sony have been parading this around like a show dog just to find out it's a bit of a mongrel. It's got some class in there and it's also got some staffy.
However, " people don't understand what this simulator " maybe thats me as I sure as hell have no idea what a supercar is like to drive as I've never driven one. I go off what I can see and feel. Seeing, it's a losing battle and the feeling, well perhaps it's good but seriously, I've never driven a luxury car.
For me, as a xbox and PS3 ownerI found Forza to be a better game (maybe not simulator) but it was more fun to play and it'd had the fun sucked out of it a long time ago. Too many elements of this are broken and they're the usable parts (i.e. menus, load times, some incockpit displays and some not, shite AI).

Yep, I discovered it when attempting to rid the bossanova menu music.
Go to the music manager (left menu) and you can trawl through every track and disable it from race music. I've not found a way to disable all at the touch of a button (bar turning music volume right down) but you can go track by track and disable them.

suppose I am a 40 year old fan boy then, because I expect a certain degree of artistic expression and artistry not fonud in many games today. Where this one delivers to me the things others don't. And that makes one a fan boy? I've played them all and I do mean all. I like this game as much as I do NFS SHIFT, it's not the same as SHIFT, but I like it the same. And I pefer to play SHIFT on PC because of the physix tweaks n such, dlc cars etc. As some have said, I too don't like all the neon glitzy pop music bullshit in today's games... No fanboism really, it is just my opinion coming from me, stated by me, no one else. I thought Forza wasn't all that good, and after now having GT5, Forza is poop in how I compare the two.. Just in driving physics alone, well in everything else too, but just picking out that one cause it's so glaringly better than Forza. What's a racing game (sim) without a superior driving model. Heh guess I'm a fanboy. Better than a 40 year old virgin I suppose.

To turn off in-race music just turn the volume all the way down to zero. That's the setting it should always be on
I found the menu music pretty classy myself. Sounded cheesy and out of place watching it on youtube but when you have the whole package in front of you it makes perfect sense.
I've read Forza actually has longer load times than GT (at the very least for Nurburgring) so that's interesting. I know that I wait a longer period of time to get into a race in iRacing so all considered I found load times quite reasonable. When I look back at the license tests I was often jumping from Tokyo to Madrid, Japan, UK and back again and the actual loading of the track wasn't a big issue, more it was the 'flow' between loading that made things seem slower than they should, like the unnecessary cut scenes with people walking around the cars, and the gentle fading in and out (etc). That kind of thing could be snappier but I'm used to it being even slower in Prologue.

No, I think you're right if you go by disc times. Think off the HDD then load times are lower.
I'm with BLuNT318 about the physics, they're better than Forza. However, due to the way damage is handled (or more the case not handled) in GT it removes the sim feel for me completely. I appreciate there is some damage there but it's far far from realistic (i.e. I can side swipe a wall at 100mph and it does nothing to my car). Wihtout the damage, it feels like you're racing a 3d studio max project.

Finally got the game yesterday and updated my JB PS3 to 3.50 and it was definitely worth it
The shadows look weird sometimes, and the standard models could be better, but other than that it's just awesome. The driving physics are great... there's just such a nice feel for the car when you're driving around corners, especially in the cockpit view.
The standard cars, while obviously lower in quality, don't really hurt the game for me. I started out by getting a standard car and it was still fun to drive because it was a car I liked, and after getting some more cash I got myself a premium car and the difference in model quality just made it all the sweeter.
Personally I had no issues with the menus crapping out or anything and I also don't find them confusing at all, like some reviewers apparently did. I guess they can't take more than 3 buttons on any given page. The loading times aren't annoyingly long either. I don't feel like Forza, or other big racing games made me wait any less.
I also must say that photo mode is quite entertaining. It's like a game in itself to pause replays and look for that perfect picture.
And deelix, anything below 100% review score from all reviews is average?

I also upgraded yesterday, i used a blank hdd so all my jb stuff is intact
One thing that does bother me is that i cannot bring myself to use the standard cars, i have only used premium cars, as i ALWAYS drive in cockpit view and the standard cars not having even a very basic cockpit is shamefull imho.
Another thing that is quite bad is the screen tearing, i usually find it happens as i enter a turn, not a killer but annoying.
I don't even notice the shadows tbh they are not even an issue for me, maybe it's less obvious on my 32" lcd?
But those issues aside i'm finding it great fun, much variety to keep me going back everythime, love the Topgear track and racing the VW Bus!! 8/10 for me so far..

Patch 1.02 is out, allowing the game to make use of the upgraded servers for more more stable online stuff and max weight/power limits for online races apparently.
Also in an interview with Yamauchi, he said that the lack of damage so many people are complaining about is really just because it's only unlocked later in GT mode, so a patch on december 1st will unlock full damage for arcade mode.
that patch will also fix the tearing issue apparently. (I didn't notice this so far)

I knew it! Great support! This game reeks of support and future content. I have seen good damage but not great damage. I knew it would show up later on in GT mode. I am level 8 and see damage but not the type of damage I should be getting. Good to know they are going to fix this.
@Grale
I was like you and only used the premium cars. I found out yesterday that you will need to buy a used car if you want to compete in the other older car races. For instance, if you want to race in the Lightweight cup in beginner then you will probably have to buy a used car. I bought the Honda Today and it was horrible!!! Max speed was like 45 or something like that. I had to go for the Daihatsu OFC Concept or whatever the name is to win that race. It's awesome that you really have to keep an eye on the Used Cars because they change. I am still waiting/looking for a pre-79 Japanese car for that race.

I have been playing this since its release & although loving it & impressed with the physics & you seem to get a real good perception of when the track goes up/down in gradiant, some things that did spoil a little is some of the backgrounds do look a little cardboard cut outish & certain things looked like it was just copied & pasted & also disapointed that other little things like when you do a time trial your best time isnt saved onto a world leaderboard I dont think you can even compare times between your friends,Maybe i just missed something?,Still undecided if I think I enjoy this more than Forza 3?

You notice the stuttering on the backgrounds more than anything. It's as if they run at a different fps to the rest of the game. This is where most of the tearing occurs as well. You tend not to notice it while playing, but as a spectator it's really obvious.
I'm not sure about the whole "only get damage" until you've g grinded out the the early levels. I'm level 17 and see little evidence of damage

Surprisingly, so far I've had the most fun driving my 91 Miata and 02 Mini Cooper S. Neither one has over 200 HP but handle really well. I bought a Vette Z06 and upped the power to about 540 and it's a freakin handful on some courses.

Wuh? Unlocked later? I crashed my Corvette in GT mode straight into a wall going 150 mph and my car had not ONE scratch on it...it's a premium car too. Why would you need to unlock damage?

Because that's how the game is designed. As you level up in GT mode, the game becomes progressively more difficult. It seems that as you level up, damage modelling will be unlocked in multiple stages, adding an additional challenge over time, and the AI will become more aggressive as well. You could say that many reviews are incomplete because they never levelled up far enough to actually see all the features.
Quote: | At full damage, mechanical failures play a critical role in the vehicles drivability and aerodynamics. At this level car hoods, trunks, and even doors will be hanging by a hinge as pieces of the car fall off.
A reviewer tweeted Yamauchi just a few days ago stating that he was at level 17 and still did not see mechanical damage. Yamauchi tweeted back with a mysterious message stating “it will appear later.” |
Quote: | Clearly the decision to implement a progressive damage system is Yamauchi’s challenge to all fans of the genre to prove themselves. As a real life race car driver and as someone that wants to make that dream a reality for others through the GT Academy, Yamauchi probably feels that players must first get their skills to a level where they can drive well before introducing race losing effects as crippling full on damage. |

yeah seriously, I can see how they only managed to make 200 cars into premium models because holy shit they are so high poly, it must have taken ages to model just one of these cars.

doesn't change the fact that the models are incredibly detailed. Photo mode is where you can best see all the work that went into the premium models.

Well that's not a bad thing, just use the ps3 for the exclusives that you want to play. Mmm Gt5, lbp2, infamous2 oh yeah ico and shadow of collosus to name a few.
I always use my xbox for playing games never the ps3 unless exclusive ofcourse.
