Sorry dude , you might make a valid point about everything else , but the physics are clearly not this game's strong point...

First review here. It seems it didn't go down to well.

Still looking forward to try this myself, although I'm not wanking myself silly over it like some...

I was thinking more along the lines of downforce, traction, suspension and stuff.
I realize the collisions aren't the strong point of the game.

That same site gave Prologue a 15/20. How is that even possible?

I was under the impression there was an embargo on reviews, not to mention a responsibility to play as much of the game as possible. There are still functions and features that aren't online yet, and the multiplayer itself only went (unofficially) live last night so I really don't see how it can be a comprehensive review. Especially if stuff like damage (both mechanical, and visual) is unlocked progressively as you level up (reportedly as far as level 40). Do they say how far they have gotten in the game, whether they've unlocked the extreme series and 24hr endurance events?

I mean it makes no difference to me, especially given the quality of games journalism all round, but if it's just grandstanding on the game because of the development length and weight of expectations then that's a shame. In truth, reading it through google translate it just reads like a 'first impression' on amazon...

Some pictures to brighten the page;

Game isn't officially released until tomorrow but people are playing online as we speak with apparently 'silky smooth' results. Lots of options for bandwidth, voice chat and all the rest of it. Seems good but probably best judging after the game goes live, and especially after the big heave of players trying to connect.

I'd suggest not patching and just playing the game as though the online component wasn't there when you get the game tomorrow (at least to begin with) since it integrates online functions into the main game and could slow down with all the server traffic.

Yeah exactly what I was thinking Cigole. I'm not saying the review is wrong because I honestly can't say without having played the game myself or having a few other reviews to check, but it doesn't seem like they spent a lot of time with it.

I thought it was even pretty weird that IGN and some other sites are advertising with their reviews going up tomorrow. Is 1 day really enough to review the online part thoroughly? I'd give it some more time.

that site is one of the only one in france that actually dares to criticize shitty games.. But anyway, I think the guy is right : he is pretty much complaining everything we already complained in Prologue back then.... So he isn't bullshitting and Polyphony didn't improve anything.

Honestly, it seems they didnt fix the antialiasing at all, and GT5 P was unplayable and killing my eyes cuz of it.

Finally, you are posting nice screenshots, but most of them are from photoshoot mode (aka FSAA 16x mode prerendered) or just in game shoots photoshopped. If you post a picture of the game straight from an HDTV, you can see how aliased it is.

And no, i'm not a MS fanboy, I own both consoles... I loved Heavy rain and God of war3 which are Sony exclusives... It's just I think that Sony really screwed this game, i mean, not screwed 100%, but screwed like StarCraft 2 was on PC (really, it was disappointing, but still a good game !)

But is this really good? If the interesting innovations of the game are lock until you spend 30+ hours and you are forced to grind your way through it, is it "unprofessional" to criticize such game design Confused

EDIT: I can totally see how it appeals to GT veterans like yourself, but I don't think it's what the average racing game fan enjoys.

they can criticize it of course. that's up to them. Ispep was merely referring to the fact that it's not obvious from the review if they even knew about this and possibly missed features and didn't review the game completely without even realizing it.

the highest level I can see on their screenshots is level 15 for A-Spec and level 0 for B-Spec. Did they even mention B-Spec at all in the review? hmm

They use techniques that don't look particularly good in individual frames but much better in motion. It was the same with GTPSP as well. And I've said it before but if you've really got issues with aliasing, then your screen either needs configuring properly or it's just not good enough. I've had several monitors & TV's that the PS3 has been swapped around on and the gulf in quality can be quite severe. Aliasing exists but not to the extent it can be an eyesore. I'll try and find the image which sort of proves this.

...and I've always been open about the photos I've posted being from photomode, which is, after all, a part of the game.

The translation doesn't offer any insight on that Confused

Like Surray said I wasn't saying they can't criticise it, only whether they were even aware of it. There are arguments for and against the method, and I'm in two minds, but I still think it's an odd decision.

It looks like they did but seems (from a translated point of view) only surface deep, merely acknowledging the feature exists.

After playing a little bit, damage wise it is none existent, the game would be much better if it was fully added.
I don't know if it has to be turned on somehow in game?
Why not add it?
Just adds to the realism of the game.

People who have the game say that you don't start noticing major damage until level 10 and that it gets progressively more possible to damage your car as you level up (all the way to 40).

The first review mentioned above has been removed. Hmmm, maybe a mistake or wasn't suppose to go out until tomorrow. Could be they are worried about their credibility in getting the review out so early. People may think they haven't had sufficient time to give it a true review. I am very interested in the leveling system. That will be really fun! I won't be getting my copy until around 12noon cst tomorrow.

After playing the game a bit more, it seems very good.
Just tried the nascar and it's very good, wasn't easy either at first lol.
Try changing the car performance like driving assists etc.
And it won't be easy lol.
Really looking forward to multiplayer as it ain't unlocked yet.
Hopefully there's an option if you want qualifying on or not in online mode?
As there is none in single player mode up now, from what I've played of it.
Top game though.

There's no fast forward or rewind options in the replay's which is a bit poo.
And there's a mode in it where you choose a character, and watch him race.
You have to tell him to increase, decrease or maintain his speed.
Pretty mad, but got bored of that lol.
Might be good who knows.

They screwed it a bit. 500 is actually half decent hill climber. Rear engine, rear wheal drive and body weight helped.

Hmmm I am pretty conflicted.
There are some pretty big issues with it. Some levels look amazing...just amazing and some look like they fucking slapped them together with in Lego Universe(well not that bad) but...the same thing with the cars, the weather effects. Its just...janky. At times everything looks and seems amazing, and other times/levels/cars really are NOT at all as good as expected. The kart racing is ug...not even worth playing. I get their need to bloat the number of cars, but man such a step down. Than again I was actually looking forward to that more than most probably.

Also what the fuck is with the popin? I saw it on Gamespot's video of their 1 hour show and lo and behold there is a good deal of popin. Not even small fade in but just BAM mountain in the background. It reminded me of Daytona for the Saturn:)

I am enjoying a good deal of it though. There are some pretty big iffy parts, but so far it's been pretty cool. It really doesn't look as good when racing as I thought it would, the particle effects in particular. But with this many cars, who cares. Its fun enough to collect them all.
So far 10 hours in. Only HUGE complaint is that you do end up in the standard cars far more than I would like.
