Damn this game truly is amazing I cant stop playing it xD
Very good controls, graphics, sound everything.
I find this setting way more enjoyable than Wing of prey, though I must admit WOP is a tad more difficult.
Now I just gotta dig-up the wings of prey thread to look for these settings, iNatan (I believe it was you provided me with some good preset for the 360 controller, sens, deadzone etc which gave me ultra precision)
And the main reason im still using XP is, well for gaming I think due my limited 2GB ram.
I find most games running more stable on it too, same thoughts as FUKU.
255MB usage on a fresh start, try that on Win7 never gonna happen.
Besides that im too lazy to reinstall tons of applications I have to use (many VST plugins and that kinda stuff, yeah im a producer )
And wha!? you laughing at XP? XP is the BomB!
Right, now that im using W7 its actually not that bad afterall (I do got superfetch disabled).
this game runs blasting Maxed even with AA which i rarely use.
MW2 multiplayer seemed fine too cant complain, placebo!?
Oh yeah back to the game,
Anybody else got sound problems?
Everytime I move on to the next mission and/or restart it, some sounds are gone/cut off.
e.g like when using cockpit view I cant hear the rotors, engines, only weapons,
And in 3'rd person the rotor sound comes up with huge bass.
When I restart the game its gone and back how it used to be.

i sometimes get a looping machine gun sound.
I use win7
But yeah, great game. I actually did purchase it from their digital download site. It was a mess, they say you dont need a key but you actually do. Amateurs.
But at least it works now.

And im playing it on Win7, XP gives me these strange artifacts or whatever.

Ya I have mine duel boot as well and in many games the difference is pretty large with Xp running the games a good deal faster. I really like Win 7 but just because I do doesn't mean I want to jump into it, especially with some of my older games that 7 just takes a shit on with random errors or close screens.
Tried Win 7 got corruption as well so it must be a driver issue. First one with my ATI. But I did play a couple hours of this on the 360 last night. Its really not a bad game at all.

I don't have any sound problems on Win7 and this particular game seems to run about as well as XP. I only loaded a few maps to fly around by myself with no enemies but all seems stable.

So, were the virus alerts just false positives then? There were quite a few popping up on the virustotal link.

Game is really fun. I'm playing on the middle difficulty ("Realistic"?) and it's great fun. Music is shit though, so it was the first thing I disabled.

What controller scheme are you using? Default keyboard/mouse or Xbox controller? I tried both. Game is unplayable for me as it is such a chore to keep the chopper in the air and shoot at same time. This is normally why I can not stand plane sims. So far, this one is just like all the rest..unplayable.

I use the default. Took some getting used to but it's not bad too bad. "Realistic" mode definitely isn't going to be for everyone though. If you can't keep it in the air, maybe try an easier difficulty level.

Fuck, really dude? Of course they're false positives. Every time something new comes out there are always FT's that start screaming omgwtfbbq111!!virii because some online scanner or their mcafee or norton AV went off. Learn to read what those reports are. If all the reports from something like virustotal contain things like Heur, heuristic, "suspicious", PE, obfuscator, packed, protect, vmprotect, etc then chances are it's a false positive.
You can't just look at how many red lines of text you get. You have to look at *what* is in those reports.
I wonder if anyone crying "virustotal! virustotal!" happened to check the original unmodified yuplay.exe omgwtfviruzs! http://www.virustotal.com/file-scan/report.html?id=3f3f63296d1db5c8b72dbaf26192b29f9037a5c3855e64abeba453341fd11772-1290546728

Don't be fooled by the realistic title, its hardly realistic, there is no bullet drop so you can just snipe anyone from miles away without having to adjust your fire, the FLIR looks ok at best but the rest of the game looks nice until you zoom in on the ground units.
Everything else about it is pretty unrealistic definitely just an arcade shooter even on realistic mode you get infinite ammo, you get 1200 rounds for your 30mm as if that wasn't enough once you are empty it fully reloads it in 5 seconds in the air no need to land, same with your hydra rockets, the hell fires take 2 minutes to reload and they are not even worth using fort that reason its easiy to just fly low and strife everything with rockets and by everything I mean loads of stupid fucking trucks with abunch of guys in the back riding around in circles.

Dammit, I can't get used to the controls using my Saitek dual-shock gamepad. And I haven't found a way to invert the pitch/bank controls, causing me to crash all the time. :/
EDIT: found the invert thingy. Still chaos to fly that thing. Will take a while to define a fully working control setup.

same here, but after a while you get into the controll system and you fly better.

Try putting the horizontal axis of your mouse as roll instead of yaw, it helps allot.

I can't even imagine flying anything, especially a helicopter, with inverted controls. Ugh. Just feels unnatural to me |
It makes sense for flying in games since pulling back on the mouse to pull up is like pulling back on the joystick. |
Oooohhhhh, for the mouse. Then, yes, I could see that. Thought you meant inverting the controls on a gamepad.
A suggestion for those having problems with the "realistic" flight model. A lot of people who are used to the way an airplane flies will try to fly the helicopter the same way they do on an airplane. They'll try to descend by pushing the cyclic forward and climb by pulling it back. And they'll just use the collective as a throttle. While this will work to some extent, it's not super effective, leads to overcontrolling and exceeding limits, and will usually lead to crashing Use the cyclic for turns and accelerating and decelerating. Use the collective for climbing and descending. And remember that, in a helicopter, an adjustment to one control will usually require correction on another. Pull the cyclic back to slow down and you'll need to coordinate that with a slight decrease in collective so you don't climb.
I've noticed on this game that it doesn't require as much of a coordination as the real thing for small amounts of input. But with large inputs it's easy to get into an overcontrolling situation with this game. If that starts to happen, "cheat" and press the stick button to engage auto-hover and let it save your bacon.
Yeah, the game is far from a sim. But it's way more realistic than other helicopter arcade games. Although it's been a while since we had a good one. I think they made a good arcade game with just the right amount of "realism". Not too much, not too little.
I'd compare it to, say, Project Gotham on the 360. It's an arcade game but with a couple of sim-like qualities.

It's the same as Wings of Prey, the hardest difficulty is quite challenging. Shame that here they are hiding it and make you finish the game once on lower difficulty. Anyone who would choose that difficulty would have had an extensive history with Helicopter simulators and would not need the silly campaign to learn how to fly.

You can just edit the profile for this it seems.
C:\Users\UserNameHere\Documents\My Games\Apache\Saves
(The second file specifically.)
EDIT:
OPTIONS_MODE_CAMPAIGN{
USEROPT_DIFFICULTY:t="arcade"
USEROPT_NUM_ATTEMPTS:i=-1
USEROPT_FUEL_AND_AMMO:i=0
Would probably work to change to "veteran" or what it's defined as.
preferredDifficulty:i=-1
Would be either 1 or 2, probably 1 if -1 is the easiest.
(The next difficulty is also unlocked on a mission directly when completing it from how I've understood it so playing at Realistic would unlock Veteran on completed missions, Realistic is available by default though it still tells you that you can now replay on Realistic when you finish a mission on Arcade as a small reminder I guess.)

Have you tried mission "Sharks in the water"? It is so stupid and poorly designed, you are flying 20mil$ gunship aginst pirates equipped with speed boats armed with AKs and RPGs. You have to provide cover for some some oil rig rescue operation and that is part where shit hit the fan. I generally hate missions where I have to guard AI. After 30 attempts I had to cheat. Unlimited hellfires saved the game from uninstall!
