Far Cry 1 was a masterpiece
Far Cry 2 had potential but had major issues that prevented it from being good. Most notably were teh fucking annoying respawns and the lack of a polished stealth system.
Now if they fix both of these then FC 3 may be interesting. Pe4rsonally i would like it if they removed the respawn altogether or maybe implement a random respawn system. By that i mean that random patrols could appear at random places and time and not at fixed places at a fixed rate (checkpoints ect).
Then implement better stealth mechanics. Give us the traditional stealth options (crouch , prone) and add the ability to grab and kill people from the shadow , proper stealth suit (the one in FC was junk) ect.
If they do that then i will be interested. If not then i will simply pass on it

And story that gets worse over time. At first it looks like it could be good, and then gets rushed up and lame near the end.

I prefer Crysis too , well until the aliens part that is but Far Cry was amazing when it was made in 2004. Imho , Crysis and not FC 2 is the logical evolution of Far Cry even though they are different brands.

Warhead is much better on that front
Should be interesting to see if Crysis 2 is going to rape another generation of hardware |
Nopo, Warhead was not better optimized, it was "scope-optimized" , meaning it had smaller and less detailed worlds.
Same for Crysis 2, only this time it is so "scope-optimized" for console crap, that current hardware (and old) will have no problem playing Crysis 2. Check out the engine video previews, everything Crysis 1 did is now considered "Next-gen ready" while close quarters and silly lighting are what is for this console crap.

CryEngine 3 is indeed more optimized, for example it will take advantage of up to 8 cores while CryEngine 2 did not benefit at all from more than 1.5~2 cores.
But Crysis 2 will run super-fast because (as iNatan said) the environments will
a) not be full of foliage (which can cause a huge performance penalty with AA enabled)
b) low view distance (a city with tall buildings blocking your view, also there will be chapters of the game taking place inside a building like a "corridor shooter")
c) much simpler geometry detail (buildings are simply huge squares)
But that doesn't mean they haven't made advancements to their lighting, AA methods, etc.
Here are their tech papers from SIGGRAPH 2010: http://www.incrysis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=896

@consolitis Let's hope the modding community enables them. We getting such a small scale game, at least let's enjoy it like we could never enjoy Crysis.

Good, now people don't have to buy their silly tech demos to make and distribute mods that are better.

People say Crysis was/is unoptimized but I can't agree.
Even now, with max settings and AA/AF that game is the best looking game when it comes to outdoor scenes. I don't know how you could say it was 'unoptimized'. Really, the only game that has come out in the past 3 years that surpasses Crysis's graphics is Metro, but Metro doesn't have anywhere near as large of enviroments.
IMO the best looking scene in a game is still in Crysis. That part where you are attacking that North Korean base on another island looks stunning, and the scale of the 'battle' made a huge impact as well.

Quote: | - A senior software developer over at Ubisoft Montreal has listed recent work on an “unannounced shooter sequel” for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on his CV. Hmmm, could be anything, shooters are a dime a dozen these days. Moving on.
- A technical director of scripted events, also at Ubisoft Montreal, made reference to an “undisclosed first-person shooter” with “exotic gameplay” for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Cool, cool, but again, could be anything. Trundling.
- Three developers make direct reference to Far Cry 3, by name. Yeah, pretty good, I guess, but still. Doubtful. Nah, just kidding! That’s a definite! Woop! Please continue.
- Bleeding confirmation of Far Cry 3 development in August of 2008, but it will not be set in Africa as was originally stated. Production started up again in August of 2010.
- Expected to release this year, we still have no delicious Far Cry 3. Ubisoft won’t comment, leaving the door wide open for an unveiling at E3 and a probable release in 2012. Oh those cheeky Frenchmen! Love it. Eyes on, gentlemen. |

Ubiaoft had stated that the third game wouldn't take long in terms of development time but the gap between the second and third installments is getting wider. And 'a probable release' in 2012 isn't very promising.
