all remember if you have a modded PS3 you wont even be able to play the purchased origional version of this game unless you FW upgrade and kill the mod.... for now anyway.

I won't even bother trying to argue anymore as it's obviously a waste of time. I didn't know Mortibus was such a troll...coming in here over and over and telling everyone how shitty this game is based seemingly on the low resolution shadows in youtube videos. Whatever man, keep doing your thing if it makes you happy.
But anyway, my copy should arrive tomorrow so I'm still contemplating whether I should update to 3.50 and put the JB on ice for now or just get a new PS3 for online play. If you update you can always get the PSJailbreak downgrader thingy (does it actually work?) for about 70€ if no free variant of that ever shows up, so it should be fine to get a JB on there again if necessary.
I'm leaning more towards just updating and then winging it from there.

And i know gameplay is important and that some of the videos on youtube are compressed and stuff....
And still after so long time of wating after all the hype im looking at gameplaym ovies on youtube that have been uploaded in the last 20-40 minutes or so and i dont see anything amazing about the graphics.
And for after all the years after the hype and most important its 2010 the graphics is the most importany thing.
And in the movies i saw on youtube all this years i saw gameplay movies that was looks like a video! I was sure im going to play like in a real video!
And now it looks like another car racing game. Nothing revolution here.
Maybe im wrong.

well geez, there's only so much you can do on a 4 year old console.
Even GT5 cannot magically make the PS3 500% more powerful. It's still on PS3 and the PS3 is limited in what it can do, and so it can only look marginally better if at all than other great looking racing games. There's some things where it excels, and some things where it falls behind.
The videos you saw where it was looking so great was probably just the replays. Replays still look better than gameplay. That's how GT has always been as far as I know.
But seriously, I don't really get it. Is all you ever saw in GT5 the graphics?
Were you looking at videos months/years ago and were like... "oh wow the graphics are so good I can't wait to play that?" and now that the graphics aren't up to your expectations the game is suddenly so much worse?
I was looking forward to all the cars, the tracks, the track editor, the AI drivers, the physics, the customization, the different race classes, the online features, the replays and photo editors, etc. The graphics were always on the side for me. Graphics don't make a good game.

Well I'm no GT geek fanboy and after watching the videos I find 50% look superb and the other 50% a bit worrying esp the shadows issue which look shocking in some of the vids, wether it will actually look that bad I will hold out opinion until I actually see the game on my tv.
I understand your points mortibus but your condeming it before actually playing it.

From those features you mentioned the track editor is the only thing that sets the game apart from GT4, so graphics become very important to non-hardcore gamers.
If you are a die hard fan who likes to score best lap times like World of Warcraft fans like to level up their characters than you don't have to care for graphics.
But I think that only ~5% of the players who bought a GT game really completed all the events it had. Most gamers got it because they read in a review that it is good and played it for ~20 hours before they became bored. These gamers want something exciting, be it cool new features they want to check out or exciting graphics they want to see firsthand.
GT5 doesn't have bad graphics, but after 5 years of hype some of the imperfections are a bit shocking, like having "only" 200 high quality car models. It's still a lot but AFAIK Forza 3 has ~400 of those.
At the end it comes down to "driving in circles" which isn't as exciting to the wide audience as it is to the hardcore audience but being pretty can help to mask this.

Honestly unless something has gone horribly wrong the game is going to look amazing once you're sat in front of it on a big screen TV. Was playing Prologue last night and it has all the jaggy shadows that you're seeing in these replays. I doubted myself so much that I reinstalled just to check and fuck it's exactly the same and seriously it doesn't make a jot of difference. You literally don't notice it because the rest of the image is so much more powerful. I had people coming in the room taken aback by the graphics. In motion, with everything set up right you're not going to dwell on the imperfections - even less so when you're enjoying playing the game.
I should be getting my game tomorrow so if any NFOrcers want to race online at some point (not necessarily right away) add me on PSN; Cigoler
