Anyone playing archer? Got a problem. Just bought and learnt Poison arrow skill, but I got only 3 skills on my bar - cold, multi and fire arrow. How to put the poison arrow on the skill bar? Or is it passive?

(The cities are quite a different story as is the other locations, getting close to progressing to the next area but there's still more to do before I choose to continue.) |
someone at the official forums says he finished it at level 41 and only 20 hours in.. sounds quite disapointing. have you visited the largest island? seems like the game is quite empty except for the first region, if he's not trolling..

That guy who said he finished the game in 20h should stop playing games. He didn't even enjoyed the game, and i bet he likes FPS games more then RPGs.
Seriously, finishing the game in only 20h is stupid when you have a map like this. There's so much to explore and enjoy.

Right. You couldve finished Fallout3 in 7-8 hours too if you wanted to. Doing so would of course rob you of the fun experience the other 50 hours of sidequesting and exploring offered you.

With all those RPGs coming out it's been hard for me to keep track of what is worth playing...
Can someone fill me in on this one? I am more interested in games like that if it has an engaging story and some decent character interaction in it, so how does this one fare in that regard?
Also, this was probably asked numerous times before, but is it necessary to play the first game, or this one stands well enough on its own?

I guess this is more for people who enjoy exploring/combat.. but i havent been that disapointed in the quests either, nothing out of the ordinary though.
Story of TW1:
Spoiler: |
When Antaloor was created at the beginning of time, the many races populating this paradise lived in harmony with one another. But this peace didn't last long. Uprisings took place and civil wars abounded - conflict had finally ousted harmony. The skirmishing and full-scale battles finally reached such a proportion that civilized life on Antaloor collapsed. The effects of this were so far-reaching that almost all of Antaloor was crushed by the rival forces. The power structure of the four elements - Water, Air, Earth and Fire - was stretched to the limits, and only some Herculean efforts were able to save it from collapsing completely. The scale of the destruction, however, was enormous.
This near-apocalypse saw the birth of the Orphans, a small band who fought on the side of good. Although small in number, they decided to learn from the mistakes of the generations that had gone before - and to usher in a new era. Four of these Orphans stood out from the rest - and they were destined to be the spiritual leaders of the new age. During a historic meeting, the four created a powerful pact that would permanently repair the damage their ancestors had done to Antaloor.
They sacrificed their own dreams to bring peace to the land and swore eternal service to the four elements of power. In this way, the Gods of Antaloor were created and are still worshipped to this day: Maliel, the Goddess of the Air, Throglin, God of the Earth, Yatholen, God of the Water and Aziraal, the God of Fire. The peace they created lasted for a long, long time... until the evil Gandohar discovered the old writings of the Orphans. He deciphered them and ultimately discovered the secret of the four elements' power. A new wave of fate now threatened all of Antaloor - and still threatens the land today. Gandohar used his new-found knowledge to gain control of the elements and thus control the entire known world.
Gandohar, the Dark Lord, knew that he would have to access the power of the quartet to even have a chance of becoming a God himself. He succeeded in disrupting the balance between the elements, thanks to cunningly laid plans and traitorous schemes. At the same time as the God of Fire was vanquished, the gates of power opened up for another element - and since then its dark magic has spread evil shadows over all of Antaloor. Gandohar seized this unique opportunity created by the emergence of this new element without leadership. He started out on his evil path by trying to use the power in the body of Kỹra, a descendant of the Orphans. He thought that this would help him gain full control over the dark magic and attain a place among the remaining gods. But Kỹra's human body - in spite of her ancestry - could not stand the enormous strain of the procedure for very long. So, having beaten Antaloor into submission, Gandohar now sits in his stronghold in Vahkmaar and concocts a devilish plan... one which will give him power over one of the most dazzling characters in the land. But the followers of good also take up the struggle and attempt to shift the balance of forces in their favor. Once again, the battle for Antaloor has begun...

I never played the first game (didnt like it at all), you get the occasional moment where you see that they might be referencing some things from the past game. But nothing really immersion-breaking.
I really like the silky smooth graphics, despite my moderate PC. Concerning characters and such, at least in the german version, the dialogues are well written and sometimes really rough (in a good sense). You realize that its written for adults.
Im not that far into the game yet, so i cant really say anything about the story.
What sucks is the Horseback-Riding mechanic, its kinda broken in my opinion. But thanks to a good travelling system, you wont need to ride most of the time.

Ugh, can't seem to use Radial Barrage with the new 2h sword and mace I found - instead of it showing on 1 or 2 button, I get the weapon-specific skills that I don't even have.

If you want to create a proper fireball spell, first create a firebolt spell(i.e. fire card with range modifier and damage effect, possibly also homing effect), then scroll down and add another fire card( or ice, necromancy, etc.) with damage modifier and area effect. This will make the area effect trigger upon impact. There are countless combinations and cool things. The mana cost will rise rapidly though, having maxed the skill that lowers mana cost, and the one that increases mana recharge, is a must for a mage.

Use the following command for deactivating the paralax-mapping (to use antisoptic filtering)
Engine.ParalaxOnTerrain 0
Then you can use AF so that the textures are still sharp.
AF and paralax-mapping dont work together!
Example for Engine.ParalaxOnTerrain 0

Yeah just noticed. That sucks tho, if the player isn't allowed to influence the hotbar in any way the system should be robust enough to realize to put the skills with actual skill points invested into them in the main setup instead of behind the block key. Now the 1 and 2 keys are useless to me - I've no plans on putting any points into the weapon-specific skills since I switch constantly anyway.
Another shortcoming of the UI - along with not being able to sell/buy without the idiotic confirmation screen or buy multiple items at once.

You can disable that confirmation in Options/Interface. Though this also removes the summary before the upgrading and disassembling of items
