It's a Powerbook G4, someone abandoned it to me, needs a password to login to MacOS.
Anyway, I don't care what's on it, what's the best I can do with it ? It doesn't have Intel, so I can't put Win on it, right ? (VM doesn't cut it, it's gonna be too slow I believe)
So, do I download some MacOS disk and boot from it and go from there ?

Yep. Depending on how old the model is you might even be able to install 10.5 Leopard on it.

I will install Tiger on it. I've already burned a dvd but it gets stuck while trying to boot from it, qq.
Anyway, I will get another imagge and burn it. I have 2 questions :
1) Does it need to be cracked ?
2) Can I change its language afterwards with an update ? Like in win7 ? Or does the dvd/installation have to be in the language I need, like with XP ?

2) I can't remember on how exactly it were with Tiger, but I think it doesn't matter what language you have during install, localizations can be selected during custom setup and by default all will be installed. So, it's actually a good idea to do a custom setup, that way you can unselected unneeded components - localizations, printer drivers, etc.
If your hardware allows to install Leopard, you should install it. It will be faster than Tiger. Also, there were patches to remove hardware checks during install, so Leopard could be installed on older PowerBooks. Never tried them, so don't know on how it Leopard performs on such systems.
EDIT:
After installing Mac OS X always install Developer Tools, this way you will have all the needed unix stuff. This is very important for Tiger, as Developers Tools package also installs common unix tools and many third-party GUI apps wrapped them.

Wtf is this shit ? I installed Tiger, I open up Safari, go to youtube -> crash
I run software update, the bar goes at about 50-60% -> crash
I install Flash Player, close and rerun Safari, go to youtube -> crash
WTF. Ideas ?

Thanks, man, it worked, no more crashes.
But its shitty hardware is too slow for smooth youtube playback, I'm gonna have a hard time selling this embarassing pile of bullshit slowass technology for more than 80 euros.
P.S.: The FagOS tries so hard to be simple that it's actually hard to understand. And where are the right click context menus ?

I wanna sell it to someone I know, who is clueless about computers. I'm not sure about installing Linux .... Its version of Flash player is still gonna be crappy coded, right ?
P.S.: I just noticed that the touchpad has ... 1 button. It's one wide button, that's why I can't right-click.
I'm getting dumber by the moment using this faggy OS.

TO be honest most flavours of linux are pretty easy to use now, the flash player (I personally on x86 and x64, so not PPC) have never found an issue.
Dunno about the touchpad, only experiance I have had with apple, are a mac mini, macbook pro and ipod and I hated them all

right-click = Ctrl + touchpad click / mouse left-click
Also, later Apple's notebooks have muti-touch touchpads, on these there is an additional method to produce right-click
right-click = two fingers on touchpad + click
If I am not mistaken, later PowerBooks models had such touchpads too. |
