Bah indeed. No damage takes out a lot of the fun in the game for me. Why implement more mobs, dungeons and shit when you can't even take damage in the game? This guy needs to get his priorities straight.

The biomes was worth the wait alone.
I started a new map, and the difference in how stuff is randomly generated is hugely better now. In the tropical biomes there is a chance for volcano's to be made, and the hell is fun.

I can't update anyway. login server is getting hammered which means the game won't auto update. Will just wait until I see it posted somewhere.
Finally! Just had to keep hitting try again and login. After 20 - 30 tries I finally got through. I don't think the server is over capacity. I think they're artificially limited the connections. Once it connected it was only 10 seconds or so to download the update.
Yeah, in addition to minecarts and damage not working, buckets still don't work properly.
If you accidentally fall out of the void (it's not as bright as it was) you no longer fall until you die and then respawn. No, you just sit there a block below the bottom of the world. Can't move at all. ugh.

anyone get the portals to work in multiplayer? I built one and it forms but it won't transfer me. Doesn't matter if I pass through it either way or enter from either side and just stand in it.
edit: tried changing the hellworld flag in the server properties and all it did was make the sky red and brought the creatures from hellworld to the surface. Maybe it just doesn't work in multi yet.

Yeah it's understandable, getting the clients to sync with the server for working damage model will probably take a lot of doing - I just hope SMP is what Notch will concentrate on next. The new world generation is nice, but the biomes could still be bigger, and tropical areas should have different types of trees entirely, as is everything is so similar (apart from desert and tundra) that they're pretty much indistinguishable to a normal player (and there's supposed to be like 10 biomes total or something like that).
Lot of issues with the patch apparently; armor doesn't mitigate damage at all, items vanish upon death (before they'd drop where you died) plus some bugs with Nether and the portals.

It's the server that is outdated most likely, Garus will probably wait with the updating until the server mods etc. are updated as well. Not that there's much differences in SMP, don't think the hell portals even work.

If you restart the client again you'll get a hotfix update to fix the issue with your items not dropping to ground you die.
