Steam will not see a single cent from me in this life, and the other options are not really attractive either. I am still hoping for a disc release or will buy it in ten years from GOG without the need for some third party program .

Steam is great, no need for a disc (/or no-cd crack), no need to constantly be up to date with if there's a patch our or not. I've bought many games quite cheap when they have've had that kind of deal, but payed over price for quite a few too..
Quite comfy, actually. If some fat ass grunt like Gabe Newell comes along there is always the occasional stone club in reach. No need to pull down your pants for a nice butt-raping that is Steam.

Yep. Driving for yourself is preferable to being the rickschaw runner for Gabe Newell.
So, if Frictional Games want my money they better do as they did with their Penumbra series.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."

I can read Cyrillic but do not understand Russian. It says "Язык: Русский", and I think the second word means "russki" so I guess the language is (only) Russian. According to the official website there is currently no disc-version for the western market. However, there are several people requesting one on their board so I will be just waiting a little longer and see what happens.
Yes, I was making a joke.
However I don't think they will release a retail version soon, since it would cost them (a part of) the money they already got from the DD sales.

Amnesia wasn't multiplatform though, albeit that might not account for much.
(Still sales are stronger for console games even if piracy is increasing there as well what with recent X360 and PS3 advancements in game copying and the like, plus for other consoles and handheld devices as well.)
EDIT: I had nothing against the game though, still playing it in shorter bursts as I get easily scared but I really like the game and did buy it. (Had it on pre-order but not long before it was released.)
Just that marketing and brand-name plus developer/studio name means so much for sales plus what I mentioned about console sales often being greater than PC sales.
(Of course the console version is also often prioritized and even gets exclusive content, though rarely for free, but can include demo and beta tests as well.)
Yeah I bought it today too.
At 33% off (despite that it' not 50+% off like the other games), it deserves to be bought at that price AND gifted to a friend...
They make some pretty awesome adventure games....anyone pirating a game this cheap and this good should throw their PC out the window, seriously...the entire reason we got this gem of a game is thanks to the fans that bought the Penumbra titles...
i played this for about 30 min or so yesterday. i just don't get this type of game. sure it's supposed to scare you and all but it doesn't scare me one bit. what it did accomplish is boring me to death. you go around lighting up candles. wtf?
i guess i'll try to finish it later when i'm bored with everything else.

the thing you don't get is called atmosphere - and this game lives and dies by it
Good news. The good financial situation they state they are in means the horror genre is safe for now. Hope they are already working on their next hair-raising and shiver-inducing title.
Then they say they believe there are two ways to reduce piracy:
- Make multiplayer/online games/with DRM, but the team is interested in making great singleplayer games, so it doesn't make sense to them to make a game they don't want to, just because it'll be pirated less.
- Make games for other platforms (read: consoles) too. They are actually already looking into this option.
Update from the new post (thx lolozaur):
Quote:
With these figures at hand, we must confess that it gives us new confidence for the PC. The sales that we have had (and are having) are more than enough to motivate developing a game with the PC as the main (and even only) platform. Based on what we have seen, the online PC market is just getting bigger and bigger, and we are convinced we are far from the end of this growth. We think that other developers that consider making their game exclusive to a console might want to think again.
Quote:
As for our plans to focus on consoles, as hinted above, this is something we are reconsidering. If online sales figures continue like they have with Amnesia, there is actually not any reason for us to release to anything but PC. Still, it would be foolish not to try consoles out and our current idea is to work together with a third party to do a port. This would mean that we can still can keep a small staff and not risk growing beyond our capabilities.

There is another really important thing that needs to be taken into account: If we have had a publisher and sold according to current figures, we would not be in the state that we are in now. More likely, we would now be something more like our first sales summary post. We would probably just have paid back our advance, and just recently been receiving royalties (at a much lower rate, like 25% of what we get now). This means that we would probably be looking for a new publishing deal at this point instead of having the freedom we now have.
Self-publishing on Steam is amazing for indies..
