I agree, in all my time as a gamer, this is the best game i have ever played/saw. Think of it, it's from Sony itself and puts all other developers to shame LOL Cool

**FOR PEOPLE WITH WILD IMAGINATION THERE COULD BE SPOILERS**

Hello again, I've completed it now Smile took me a full 10 hours on normal Crying or Very sad

Can't really understand why it has gotten such great reviews though, thought the game was slightly above average, thats all. Mostly due to the fights which, as me and my friends like to call it, were "lotto" (They required more luck than skill) especially the last boss...

Anyhow, I burned it on a monarch Dvd-r at 4x and played it with a Messiah2Pro on a mid-series PS2.
This, somehow, seemed to yeald quite a bit of problems...

First of all when i got to side2 (pandoras and after) the music streaming had alot of problems (it could only loop the 3 second initial buffer) and some loading times were as long as up to 5 minutes.
This could be my media (dont know how reliable monarch is, never tried them before...) but since it only occured on side2 I don't know...

The other problem was, and I can't understand how this could in any way have to do with my media, the game had ALOT of camera bugs.
At times the camera would move outside the level and all kind of strange things started to happen...
For example on the last boss (where you, among other things, get a different health meter) the camera could sometimes be somewhere else, showing only the sky and a pitch black Kratos in swimming mode(!)
I could swim around in this sky-void for a bit leaving nothing but nice little bubbles where I was... And oh, did I mention that my old meter was back whereas the games in-menu thought it weren't.
This was bug-o-rama deluxe.

Anyone else had any strange problems with the confusion release? Or is it just me Very Happy

PS: By the way: the narrator voice of the movies actually says "bluffs" when kratos jumps of the cliffs, don't know if it has any significance whatsoever though....

the thing with "freezing on the bluffs of madness" is no joke, there really is
a level called like that, i checked the name of the savefile, also it does kinda freeze, well actually its loading but for kinda 5 minutes.
yes i ve encountered lots of issues with the game like music looping the first few secs over and over, a few long loading times.

Is the Rip loading in another way than the Original? I often heard that playing rips could damage your PS2 Laser/lense etc. ...

That's CD rips, not rips like this. This RIP has the whole game intact, it's just extras that is ripped. CD rips misses stuff from the game. Stuff like music, speech, movies etc. This in return makes it tougher for your ps2 to read it.

OK, but is the DATA burned on the same places on the DVD like the original? Because when the DATA is scattered over the whole DVD because it's ripped it's also tougher for the PS2 to read the DVD?
Which extras are ripped exactly?

I just tried this release for the first time and I already had a nice freeze in the first level! There were two wooden planks one leads left and the other right. I took the left one, fell off after a few steps and the game froze during the fall animation. I waited ~8 minutes but nothing happened. Then I ejected the disc a few times but this also didn't help. Wow what a promising start!! Rolling Eyes
I would say there's still something wrong with this rip because I burned it at 1x speed on very good media and verified it. My PS2 laser was professionally cleaned and calibrated last July. I never had any problem with a game until now.
I will try it again now and expect it to work but even if it works the second or third time it still sucks to get random freezes and have to play the same part several times.

It's not good media if it freezes. Try something new.
I have not experienced ANY freezing or hickups at all with my verbatim disc's, on two machines.
Like I have said so many times, and everytime have I been right, it can STILL be the media EVEN if you have 200 other games that all work with the media.

I GURANTEE you that it is not the rip, it is the media.

Well no offense m8 but you can't guarantee anything. A bug in a PC game is also not encountered by everyone. Maybe you just had luck and I didn't have luck.
When I say I used good media then I used good media. I know what media my PS2 likes. And I don't consider Verbatim good media. IMO Verbatim is usually average at best. Some types of Verbatim are even really really bad. There are at least 10 different types of Verbatim DVD-R discs. You should be more precise and talk at least about the media ID when you recommend them.

Anyways like I expected it worked the second time. But this still sucks. I hope this won't happen too frequently.

I wont bother to argue about this since that would be a waste of time.
But if it was a bug, dont you think more people would experience it? It's not like we have different hardware configurations like on the pc Wink

Some good verbatims are "MCC 02RG20".

for crying out loud guys, best media code for +R is YUDEN000T02, mainly used by Verbatim (made in Japan) & Fujifilm too i think!

If your ps2 can read +R, then use +R, cause it's better than -R. Read the spec if u don't believe me.

I'm still playing the Genius ver. and it's very smooth with "1sec" loading time ^.^

nah its not the media, actually its my ps2, its my 2nd one but still its 3 years old and thats kinda the bottom line for sony consoles.
the media i m using is very good, i ve burned so many games on it and it always worked perfectly.
the fact that the game loops music and loads a bit too much at times is due to the fact that its a rip and my ps2 sucks.
btw the whole looping and loading thing starts at pandora's temple aka the 2nd layer, before that it runs perfectly.

After replaying this game WITHOUT cheating I'm totally in love.
It might actually be one of the best games I have EVER played in my 20years as a gamer, it's that awesome. And I normally do not even find games like this that good, they are average at best. Smile
I just hope it's not that short. Cant really tell how short it was since cheats let you rush through at an incredible speed. But I hope it's atleast around 10h+ when playing normally.

I might even buy this some day when the price has been lowered Smile

And for those that wonder why I played with cheats. I wanted to make sure that the game worked 100% before I burned it on a real disc, so no "OMFG YOU CHEATER" comments, thanks.

Sephirio, somewhere at the end of the cliffs of madness if I remember correctly...

Also, I agree wiht kuja, the problem must be the ps2 since I experience the exact same issues when using sucky media Smile, so it does not seem like a media problem...

And on the laser damage issue, I do think that game could be seriously bad for the laser (or rather the mechanism that moves the laser) because the sounds my ps2 makes when it cannot stream the music is not healthy :-/

gamesmaster86, Hehe, I was stuck there for a few minutes also Crying or Very sad , As with any "puzzle" in this game there are some pushing and pulling involved.
Maybe you should try to cover those cracks up with something... Wink
