I just got owned by a swarm of Casadors (sp?) Giant red flies that fucking two-hit me if i let them come close. And they soak so much punishment - it's ridiculous - more than a half of clip from the laser repeater to kill one. Had to take a huge detour to avoid them. I mean it's one thing to get killed by a pack of deathclaws but a bunch of red flies - come on
Ya, had the same thing happen.
"Oh flies, no need for my weapon let's punch them to death"
*Holsters gun*
*Dead*
I had the same problem till I figured out how to kill them. VATS > shoot wings = they can only walk on the ground slowly towards you
Slugs also change it to a single damage while further reducing spread making stuff like the riot shotgun highly effective.
Good to know.
P.S.
In Fallout3, shotguns had advantage that every pellet could do critical hit (for full critical damage), leading to massive damage values, from time to time (this only worked outside VATS).
Can someone confirm there are good energy weapons in Vegas? I've read there's a store which specializes in it.
There is, yeah. You'll probably meet some Gun Runners before reaching The Strip area if you follow the main quest, but those guys don't have much to do with energy weapons. The energy weapon store you can find on Freeside (the crappy loser area of Vegas).
Also in Freeside,
Spoiler:
at Mick and Ralph's you can access some extra hardware if you pass a speech check (probably some alternate ways as well, but that's what I did), not sure if there were energy weapons there but definitely had some good stuff.

I think you can critical with the x7 damage spread out which might be logical as buckshot is highly deadly at close range though I haven't thought about it.
As for energy weapons I recommended these two earlier but here's proper links and descriptions about them instead of the vague images and stuff I posted.
Nice that it's standalone, so no need for the first "two" if someone didn't have them already put.
Starting to think that I have more quests broken,
Spoiler:
ED-E fixing/reprogramming/companion stuff all went out once I made him serif. edit: whoops, mixed up robots
Heading to ghoul basement and have a feeling I could use a companion there Got to try with falloutwiki if it would still work.
3 cards away from deck of caravan \o/ 10 hours of gameplay for something that would have been 1 hour, if not broken. Well this way seems more fun, like childhood bubblegum-card-collection
Excuse me for going ot...But do you guys think that it would have been possible to make NV and FO3 more impressive visually and still have it running fine on consoles? I'm asking because I'm seeing a lot of console owners bitching about the lack of Eye candy in NV (not on this site, but on several gaming news sites).
I find it amusing to see more and more console gamers acting like gfx whores I mean, it's like they think that each new game they buy should be more visually impressive, because they expect that their precious console will run games with Crysis visuals. Morons! I say...

Was looking at some of the UI mods, are any worthy yet? They seem such a mish mash of stuff, or with shit thats not needed and fluff like anime girl pics and change of the whole arm console..
@maul_inc
Huge texture mods, DOF and motion blur effects etc..
In fallout 3 was possible to improve almost every graphical aspect of the game, making the console version rather pale in comparison. And no, these improvements wouldn't be possible on consoles

Well, I like the MTUI mod for it's higher res fonts that makes life easier. But I'm hoping for a DarnifiedUI mod for NV as it made the UI even more PC friendly in FO3.

Anybody else have short freezes when turning the camera? It annoys the heck out of me!
And I can reproduce it as soon as it froze once I can just turn back and forth and it freezes every time.

I'm rather disappointed with the handling of shotguns. Their range is seriously crippled and are practically unusable (especially in VATS) unless the enemy is like a metre away. Slugs help a bit (dunno it shots get an accuracy boost in VATS, though), except they don't behave like real slugs at all. The 0.35 spread modifier makes no sense since it's a single projectile. Realistically, slugs should reduce the spread to zero and maybe reduce the overall damage 10-15%.
Also, I find myself using VATS quite a bit less than in FO3. I don't know if it's a lot less effective in general (it certainly is at longer ranges), encounters are larger or something else.

I find myself using VATS quite a bit more actually. Because it feels like there are a lot of small quick, agile enemies that I just can't hit on normal speed

I used it FAR less than FO3 in the beginning, simply because Obsidian has tweaked the game to be leaning more towards FPS combat than vanilla FO3. It reminds me of the Combat_Overhaul mod for FO3, actually... and that is also a downside; because I'm further in the game now and some enemies are seriously kicking my ass. I HAVE to use the VATS system in order to give myself a fighting chance
Ideally I would use Breeze or Roberts modeled bodies but as the texture map differs any skin revealing armor and outfits look strange until adapted to the model, default Fallout 3 conversions already exist but that won't cover any of the Obisidan created content.
(Females would be Type-3/Type-V something but there's no good examples of it without a lot of custom clothing stuff or all out nudity or even sex used, was one of the first mods ported to Vegas even, heh.)

Well, that's right. Monsters like the Cazadores require the use of VATS unless you're willing to waste a lot of ammo.

Oh and yeah, I also think melee is OP. I have 85 Guns and only 30 in Melee, yet I spend most my time lately taking enemies out with my Super Sledge. It swings VERY fast, considering the size, and makes absolutely short work of Super Mutants/Nightkins and Large Rad Scorpions. I could plough through 200+ 10mm rounds taking out any of those, yet a few swings of my Super Sledge sends them flying in meaty chunks.
Good LORD! Is that a Power Armour Helmet in your pants, or are you just happy to see me? Methinks the mod designer is attempting to compensate for something
Yeah the super-sledge has saved me a lot of times as well due to it's high base damage even with lower skills and perks regarding melee, not the fastest weapon but more than enough to deal with anything if you get close enough to hit with it.
