Hehe, didn't want to make it too big to make you all feel jelous.
Why would I feel jealous? It burns when I pee too...
As a side note, after much consideration, I decided not to brush off my UNIX skills and pulled the trigger on running a server in Win7 x64 (with the latest hey0). For some reason, I don't have any issues with memory leak(s), or crashing when having the draw distance turned all of the way up. I've been running the server for over two days straight and have installed a server auto-restarter/auto-backup (it only restarts the server in the event that it gets shutdown, dies, etc.). I installed it on my media server (win vista x86) and get the memory leak, crashing, lag glitches, etc.
Has anyone else tried running their own server with such a configuration? I'm curious to know if you have had the same/similar results...

Block-building dark horse hit Minecraft will eventually become an interconnected world, allowing connections between different servers. The key word being “eventually”.
PC Gamer spotted Minecraft developer Markus “notch” Persson’s Twitter update:
Yes, you will eventually be able to link servers with portals. NOT SOON, though.
It may take even longer than expected, with Persson reporting by both Twitter and his blog that minecraft.net is currently suffering denial of service attacks from unknown, malign, presumably Minecraft-hating forces.
everything is eventual with this guy. Money now, content "Eventually"
The biggest problem with business is that it takes an initial investment to get anything worth its salt off of the ground. Since Investment firms don't like investing start-up capital in fledgling video game companies, Notch has taken the harder way of trying to attract capital in the form of volume sales.
I do understand the frustration of not being able to have the full game when you pay for it, but you have to understand that you are basically investing in a brand new company with the only hope of dividend being a fully realized Minecraft world/universe. This is, unfortunately, what it takes to get new ideas to market anymore. And, as with all other forms of investing, there is a certain amount of risk/reward. Hopefully, there is a big reward for all of us.
The big companies are all worried about, "Continuity of sustained IP," which is idiot-speak for sequels/money farm. And this mentality is what has stifled most imaginative game-play and story/stories.
I'm sorry if this post seems inflammatory, as that is not my intent. I just want to show my opposing view in a decent, contrarian way. Hopefully, I didn't offend anyone. And, of course, I could be completely wrong and this could all be a scam of epic proportions. It wouldn't be the first time for either.

Even if it was a scam, it was totally worth it. I usually don't get 100+ (and still counting) hours out of a 13 dollar game. Plus I made some new online friends and even installed teamspeak 3 for the first time.
Hmm, anyone else having a problem signing in to minecraft? Been offline since yesterday for me.
It was on late last night (for me that is). But when it is down, I use the minecraft_name.jar (unfortunately, it seems to be working hit-and-miss lately).

So?
My $14 for the game I'm playing right now was allready worth it. If he were to just stop development right now, and not even release the update on the 31st the game would still be worth the money.

Because that isn't the product he sold. Great if you're happy, but the advertising and promises made at the time when this was selling like hotcakes were pure fabrications

Are you fucking kidding me. When you goto the minecraft site all he is selling is the current game + any future updates. Thats it.
As quoted from the website -
"Here's what you get:
•You never have to pay again!
You get all future versions of the game, including all expansions and addons.
•You help fund the development of Minecraft
•Custom skins in multiplayer
•Once you've bought the game, it's yours. No DRM.
•Survival mode! "
This ultra-entitled horseshit people have been spewing out these days is disgusting. Go eat a dick if you think it is acceptable to DDOS an indie developer who has allready put out a great product as is.

double this.
You bought a game knowing full well it was alpha. It's your own god damn fault if your not happy with his lack of updates. In your current mindset, why the hell would you even trust a no name indie developer with your "hard earned cash" by buying an ALPHA release. Not even a beta, an ALPHA.

The final papers have been signed!
Woo! We had a meeting today where we signed the final papers for the new company! All the details are worked out, everyone is on board, and things are looking good! Woo!
Employment contracts have been drafted and prepared for everyone.
We’ll hopefully get the office signed next week, but until we can move in there (early next year), we’ve got a temporary place we can stay.
What else..
Oh yeah, we’re working on setting up a straight credit card purchasing option for people who rather not use paypal, and I think we’re pretty close to having that deal finalized with our bank. I should be able to start implementing that soon after the Halloween update.
I’ve also signed up for a DDoS protection service, and took the chance to upgrade the server hardware to a much more powerful beast. I haven’t migrated things over to that server yet, but that’s coming soon.
Coding wise, I’m officially behind schedule now, but I fully intend to deliver. My schedule is clearing up nicely, and I’m learning to say “no” to people who want to talk to me. I just blame it on having an important update to do.
