I have zero problems with the performance, I only lowered AA from 4x to 2x ("ultra high" was selected by the launcher).
Good game so far. It's FO3, but better and alive. If you hated FO3 though, I doubt you'll like this one.

Starting to get further into the world and main story, pretty good so far but some encounters have been quite a bit above what I should be handling though luck and some AI quirks meant I succeeded eventually, got some OK equipment from that but still looking for other stuff.
(That ranger coat seen during the logo screens and intro for example.)

No issues here, fps around 40-50 in open areas and max indoors, also there are some fps drops while in 3rd person... but I'm not playing like that anyway.

Like I mentioned previously, open the console with the tilde key(~) and write toggleEmotions. Should greatly improve performance for many having the Win7 fps problem when looking at NPCs.

I keep reading it's some NVIDIA driver issue (Have you tried the latest 260.93 beta?) and that ATI users don't have that specific issue, instead Crossfire performance isn't very good past 10.5 and that driver doesn't really have a proper profile for New Vegas.
(I have no way to compare or test though and who knows what the problem actually is, something is strange though as CPU utilization goes up close to 100% with GPU utilization down to 20 - 30% at worst.)

I play on V.Hard and Hardcore but while it doesn't show in the images I save and load a lot due to these sort of surprise encounters being more than I can handle.
(Running backwards and emptying most of my ammo reserve dropped that guy as he ran into a pathfinding issue and didn't manage to swing that damn thing.)

EDIT: Interesting command, will look into that as well, could be a bug then with Vegas or something they altered having this side effect, interesting.

EDIT: Using these mods (And many others like http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2190 adapted to Vegas.) and this INI alteration.

All DLC content worked for me, did you try Sabins latest upload of the archive since the initial ones were a bit buggy?
(BSA and ESM, user also provided that other file but it's not used by the game.)

EDIT: Classic and Tribal or what it was initially used the X360 DLC data instead of the PC data, second upload fixed that since the files are now removed from NewVegasNexus where they were uploaded initially to clarify a bit further.

The Nvidia-specific problem is related to the Water. Both Nvidia and ATI users(including myself) are having problems when looking at NPCs. Using toggleEmotions, I was suddenly able to kill things *a lot* easier, because the fps dropping/skipping was causing me problems when aiming at NPCs without me even knowing it. With many NPCs it was a slide-show.

Interesting, will have to test that and see what happens.
(Perhaps threading related bUseThreadedFaceGen defaults to 0 for example though just because it's all enabled doesn't mean it will be used, game normally uses two cores with a number of threads and then minor data for other cores even if you try to force it higher, game-engine is also somewhat unstable on certain multi-core configurations so limiting HWThreads to 2 is used as a workaround but is apparently hardcoded into the game exe so shouldn't be necessary.)

For me it runs a bit better when turning triple buffering on. This only has an effect if you play with vsync on though.
Also what does the toggleEmotions thing actually do?

If you have an ATI you could go to RadeonPro. That, among other things, can be configured to display it.

Most people use FRAPS. Works with both Nvidia and ATI.

Despite the game running great for the most part, I was getting some strange slowdowns here and there. Turns out it was "Water Multisampling" causing it. With that on low, the game is super smooth with everything else on max.

Odd that the problem would only be apparent on Win7 though. I tried messing with the cores the game could use; switching to one core only definitely lowered my fps, but using only two or three didn't make the game run any smoother. Compatibility mode hasn't really helped me any either.

Also weird that the game only uses like a third or at best half of the GPU power, and that graphical settings doesn't matter much with regards to fps.

What's the diff. between PC and Xbox version? I don't know which one to get, so far it seems XBOX version is a better call since it doesn't suffer from all those tech. problems (originating from diff. rigs that people have).

Does PC version have better graphics or smth?

You know what? FO3 and this game is the ONLY games I have ever played where I'm unable to adjust the settings to give me CONSISTENT performance! Sad

With FO3 I had stutter galore throughout the game, and it seems that it will be the same shit with NV.
I'm sick and tired of trying all kinds of halfassed "Solutions" that is suggested by people who decided that they found a fix after testing their solution for only 10 minutes...

Even if I turn everything down to lowest and disable certain things, I get a fucking stutterfest, maybe not during the first 10 minutes, but it will happen soon after.

This Gamebryo Engine is an abortion, and I hope Bethesda goes bankrupt (I know, pipedream).

My specs:
Q6600 2.40Ghz
GF8800GTS(G92)512Vram
2Gb DDR2 ram
Win XP Pro 32bit

I can confirm about the Win7 issue (framerate drops when looking at NPCs), but it's not only 64-bit. I have 32-bit Ultimate and it's the same. On XP it runs smooth on my ancient machine: 3x fps outside, 4x-max inside.

I also noticed a strange thing: the sound is different on Win7 and XP. On XP the music is much more silent, but the effects are louder instead.
