so just a quick question... just glancing over posts occasionally, theres some complaints... are we thinking shitty crack, or shitty programming in-game at this point?
Aight so i started playing, and noticed my framerate dipped from 60+ to 20 in the introduction.
No fuss i ignored it, untill i left the house, it was stuck at 22 an unplayable rate.
After strugglin with the settings i gave up and fired up XP, guess what rock solid performance.
Tested this two times on the exact same location (save spot), W7 would stick at 20 fps, while xp it goes up to 50.
Strange shit if you ask me, anyways im back to the game, starting actually.
All on ultra settings btw. 1920x1080 no aa.
I can confirm this. Just tried it myself. Win7x64 => 20fps, XP => 60fps. Same settings, same savegame.
Guess i play on XP until a patch comes.
It's not win7 64 bit by itself. Has to be it and some combination of something else you have. Because I'm running win7 64bit and have no problems at all so far (save for a minor scrolling issue)
Hmmmm. For those of you guys who are running Win7 64bit like I am, you could try running FalloutNV.exe in Windows XP (Service Pack 3) compatibility mode. Did a brief test and it seems there's a considerable performance boost.
I don't have any FPS-measuring apps handy right now, but still, check it out!

Could a tech wiz here have a look at my trouble with crashing in this game please. I am using a nvidia gtx 260 vid card with the latest driver 260.89. I have installed the skidrow version. Followed nfo instructions. The game starts.. shows 2 screens...then crashes. I use the launcher.exe to set screen 1920x1080 16.9. That is my native rez. I have been at this for a long time..and I just don't get why it is crashing. I have looked every where for a solution...with no luck...fingers crossed! Here is the error message

My specs are shit, honestly. E2140 running at 2.4ghz. old P5LD2 mobo. 4gb mismatched slow ram (I think 2gb ddr2-400 and 2gb ddr2-533 ?). 9800 GTX+. I run it on my 720p tv so I run everything at 1360x768. High details. Not sure of framerate as I don't have fraps. But it runs smooth. Haven't encountered any stuttering yet but I've only played about 30 minutes maybe.
As far as the game, downloaded the SR iso and installed it. copied the two exe files. I
told the installed to run the DX and VC redists but they failed, needed escalation. ran the dx update as admin. did NOT run the redist. Didn't tweak any settings, went with the default high settings it recommended. Also didn't mess with any DLC as it's all shit that will get replaced quickly anyway.
Also, a few days ago I downloaded the latest (at the time at least) win7x64 beta nvidia drivers . 260.89
maybe the problems are for people that have dx11 cards? maybe running it in XP or xp mode forces it to use dx9 or 10 (was 10 available for xp? I can't remember) which makes the problem go away?
Ok, you are THE lucky one. Smooth gameplay with those specs and my rig struggles to go above 20fps in Win7(Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition/ GTX 460 1Gig, 4gig Corsair DDR2)
It has to be some driver + OS + whatever issue. WinXP = triple frames
I must have the luck of the fucking Irish. Played for about 5 hours on the PC version (way more enjoyable than the XBOX) - zero crashes. FPS issues, but I have a crap video card anyway (nvidia 9600).
Running fine here at 1920x1080 Win7 x64 with GTX 285, Q9400 and only 2GB of ram. I didn't change any of the view distances at all and not using any of the DLC.
how many FPS should be acceptable for you guys ? In my case, 30 approx. would be OK if all high or very high settings are ON and there is no possible crash.
I just went through the ghost town quest helping the ringo guy out. No slowdowns at all even with the townspeople helping when the bad guys when they showed up. I'm loving the game so far. This is going to be a definite buy for me. I'd really like to get the collector's edition to go with the lunchbox from Fallout3 but can't justify that right now. All my money goes toward flying right now. Going to be broke the rest of my life... probably using the same shitty computer too

Animations can hang and bug out in New Vegas too it seems, happened in Oblivion and occasionally in Fallout3 but I've never encountered this issue myself.

Lol'd
I thought the performance issue was PC related so I went back to my xbox lol.
Guess I'll play around with the PC version a bit more to see if I can improve it
Can't be bothered with installing XP though.

Heh, somewhat funny I admit, unsure why some people get that performance problem though, it works here with the original exe (Skidrows crack is said to improve performance as Steam isn't interfering with anything such as it's overlay hook and Steamworks.) and runs pretty well despite all mods used and INI file tweaks, will run even better once certain FOSE mods (And FOSE itself.) have been made compatible with New Vegas though it doesn't run bad or stutter much at all aside from city environments and that's just briefly until it's all loaded.
(Possibly due to the various INI tweaks done but it's not like you can work miracles with it and I've tweaked for visual quality and not performance so it should run far worse.)
EDIT: More screens.
(About done what I can do down here, about to head to Vegas Strip and I expect performance to suffer a bit once I reach that area, found some neat stuff via exploration though so it's worth checking the surroundings for points of interest.)
(Had my ass handed to me by a group of Feral Ghoul Reavers, nice to see they're still along though I'll return the favor once I find a suitable weapon and armor suit, must be guarding something.)
EDIT: Said pistol was found right where the image is taken.
Spoiler:
Other casino in that settlement with the rollercoaster landmark, it's full of escaped convicts and part of a smaller quest, a "hard" level locked floor safe, basically the unique version of the .357 pistol, called "Lucky".
Decided to take a break from a long play session. So happy with this game so far. Everything about it is just really nice. The writing, the story, the characters the voice actors. The small gameplay tweaks are pretty nice too.
