If it was a creeper who blew a hole in my wall fine, but every time some asshole burns my fucking place down? fuck that
It didn't look like anything blew your house up. I'm pretty sure that putting wooden things near fire doesn't help...Sorry about your house, but at least I logged-in in time to put it out before it totally destroyed your house/library/deck...
Just to "add" to this problem - "Singleplayer factors dont work in multiplayer (including fire not spreading on stone and stuff...)" and btw fire is unpredictable, so you shouldnt play with it...
Fire will spread to anything wood in your home. I don't know what the distance minimums are but I've had stuff catch fire that was 8 blocks away from lava or a fireplace.
I was curious if any of you *COUGH GARUS COUGH COUGH* might be able to tell me how to set up a server with some sort of auto restart based on the memory usage of the hosting comp...any help is always appreciated...
edit: the reason for me starting up my own server is so I can play with some good friends of mine, and since you guys don't know them, I don't want to take any risks with y'alls hard work...I'll still complete that goddamned maze someday...

that was my issue originally but I build the fireplace first, surrounded it with iron and kept an eye on it, it's been fine for weeks but then all a sudden it mysteriously catches fire?
Thanks mate! Now I've got an excuse to bust out my old UNIX bible...

Video of one of the Penny Arcade community's servers!
By now the Cult of Rapture server has made its rounds on the internet and gotten all of the attention it well and truly deserved. However, back when I first set the minecraft server up, most of us hadn't caught wind of it yet, so we set about making Rapture on our own.
We were not trying to precisely duplicate Rapture. Given that the build server regularly hosts 30+ people, trying to precisely recreate a game that some might not have played didn't seem like a worthwhile endeavor. What we did, instead, was try and retain the flavor of Rapture, while still enjoying the process of making our own original creations. Obviously, this means we have structures that did not exist in the game - such as our giant Surface Recreation Dome, which is one of the main hubs of the city. With that said, we're still tremendously proud of our accomplishments so far, so we put this video together to celebrate our current progress.
I just want to emphasize that all of the construction on the map is done by hand. Nothing was editor'd in. Admins and mods on the main build server do spawn blocks for people when needed, but only for things that can't otherwise by regularly attained such as ice blocks or lava. If they want any gold, diamond, rock, whatever, that is regularly available in the map, it's up to the player to get it.
For the record, these two videos only walk through about 2/3rds of what we've built down here. There's some places I totally forgot to wander through, like Siren Alley. Maybe we'll do a second run-through in few weeks.
