The Internet can do Community Patches which solve alot of issues.

Okay thanks! falloutprefs.ini cool. Why would *anyone* want mouse accel for gaming let alone a shooter? This is basic QA stuff I thought.

Quote: | Obsidian has reintroduced more RPG features, such as crafting. You could make a small selection of weapons in the last game, but that's changed now. You can still create some explosive devices at workbenches, but mostly you'll be putting together your own stimpacks and medical supplies. |
So you can't make your own guns anymore? Not that I really used the blueprint guns, as there were plenty ready weapons to abuse and use too.
Quote: | The only addition that simply doesn't work is the enhanced use of companion characters.
their tendency to dash off into battle against any enemy that passes within visual range, even when supposedly set to 'Passive' mode, makes them more trouble than they're worth.
I lost count of the number of times I turned around to discover they'd sprinted off to tackle a Deathclaw single-handed, standing two feet away from it and firing wildly. Eventually, I stopped reloading to keep them alive and let them commit suicide. |
Hmm, companios took a step backwards? Don't remember them running anywhere in FO3. They were a great early warning sytem, to avoid those heart attack moments But if you can craft stimpacks, then hit companions with punch of them and that should keep 'em alive. Dogmeat at least was a superpuppy that didn't die easily

Okay, I'm getting the worst New Vegas craving right now. However, I'm in Europe. Someone tell me if the following is correct:
I get myself a US VPN, with that I log into my regular Steam account (and can someone confirm with certainty that I won't get the banhammer for this?), where I download the game and.. just play?
Is it that simple?

It's not. I tried that method for another game a year ago but wasn't able to complete payment with either Paypal or credit card as both methods enabled Steam to determine my real country of residence.

@bnf
To me it sounds as if he pre ordered it and just wants to download it.
If you yet have to buy it get somebody from over there to gift the game to you.

Oh no, I haven't pre-ordered it. That would be madness, since the version I'd get would be
Quote: | Low Violence: German low violence version only available with German language |
The dubbing would be horrible and I want gore.
I was talking about buying and playing it early.

I'm getting a weird graphical anomaly in my game. In the starting town as I wander around there are odd white flashes sometimes. Really random and fast, but sometimes they create a noticeable and large white square somewhere in my field of view for a very short time.
Running ultra high on the system in my sig.

If you set the language to English you should get the uncut version, no?

I wish. It worked for a few games in the past but that "issue" was fixed quickly.

@smocc
Then again, I read as well that people who baught the US/UK uncut version still only got the cut version here in Germany (with english voiceovers though)

Since this uses steamworks I can buy the retail version and register it with steam, right?

After having a look around, there are a good number of Fallout: New Vegas reviews out so here's our first collection. In general, most of the articles highly praise the content but note technical issues (note: most of these are X360 reviews). The impact varies, and most seem to suggest these are legacy issues similar to Oblivion and FO3, although some seem to have had more trouble. One outlier see this is little more than an outdated mod but they are definitely the minority.
Joystiq has a positive review but they do take a hard stance on the technical issues and describe the changes made by Obsidian as "cosmetic". Still, they say the experience is worth it. 3.5/5.
Giant Bomb says "if you can accept a partially broken game, Fallout: New Vegas is well-worth the trip". 4/5.
The Adrenaline Vault says "oustanding" and "excels on all levels, and you’ll want to keep playing just to see how the story unfolds". They note only two technical issues. 5/5
Atomic Gamer thinks this is Obsidian's best yet and note the "hugely expanded perk system" and the factions. 9/10.
Ars Technica seems to have been hardest hit by technical problems but they still say "Buy". The pros include 'epic story with excellent writing and acting'.
Gamer's Hell can't get over the dated graphics and the "all too familiar experience. While most of the reviews note the underlying similarities, Gamer's Hell is alone in not appreciating the content. 7/10.
