The only people trying to get 'instant old school street cred' are those bashing the fans of FO3 with ridiculous generalisations like that one.

I played the original fallouts when they came out and countless old school rpgs yet Fallout 3 is one of my fave games of all time. It had an awesome atmosphere. The combat system was clunky as hell but really thats not what Fallout has ever been about.

Who give a fuck about nerd street cred. All I'm saying is most xboxers never even heard of the fallout series.

Disagree with you about the Fallouts' combat systems... combat was fun (except for fighting hordes of rats) and satisfying.. and there was a LOT of it and thus a big part of the game. Fallout 3's was satisfying too when you'd get crits and see eyeballs flying everywhere but IMO is clunky as you said.

Thanks for my new signature, inz Very Happy

Little note:
I have no idea where I wanted to go with this post but apparently I went all over the place.

@dissident:
Right. Fallout wasn't about the combat (though it certainly did help a lot *points at inz' post*)
What F3 lacked was moral ambiguity and consquences for your decisions.
Oh, and it was Oblivion with guns. Instant loss in my book.

And I can see where this leads. Because I think the game wasn't good, obviously anybody who does is a loser/poser/idiot/retard/*insert any other stupid insult here*.

The point is when F3 came out a lot of people jumped on it because they heard Fallout was cool/cult/oldschool

And saying F3 is just a different game than Fallout or F2 is like saying I shouldn't compare Warcraft 3 to Warcraft 2. Or any sequel to it's predecessor for that matter.
If a game is part of a series/franchise you practically have no other choice than to compare it to other games in the franchise.
(That's the same reason I didn't think that the Tales of Monkey Island games were "awesome!!!1" the old Monkey Island just felt funnier. Anyways, different topic).

@W123:
That's sort of the point O.o

tl;dr?
I still don't accept F3 as a successor to Fallout. And NV (even if done better) is just more of the same.
Despite everything I write I don't give a damn if you like F3/NV. Just don't tell me it's (F3 or NV, your choice) the best Fallout ever without having played the old ones (I'm not directing this at anyone in particular because how am I supposed to know who did or didn't play the old ones?). If you played the old ones and think that F3/NV is better I don't want to argue (Opinions being subjective and everybody having one and all that jazz).

Not saying the combat wasn't fun but you have to agree it could have been improved upon. It's mainly a limitation of the Gamebryo engine though, the same game on a more authentic FPS engine would have been awesome.

Iron sights are in New Vegas though and look great, and shooting through the sights seems to always hit where you are aiming, unlike in FO3 where even single shots seemed to spray around.

Doubtful, it's more likely that the characters used in showcase videos and such till now have had perfect stats and attributes for demonstration's sake. Obsidian has tried to put more emphasis on the importance of SPECIAL stats this time around, and Perception for example improves your accuracy.

Perception

A perceptive cowboy always knows when there's a lit stick of dynamite nearby... or when a varmint's sneakin' up on him. Perception affects your Explosives skill, Lockpick skill, Energy Weapons skill, overall accuracy, and compass range.

I think that it means accuracy in vats because I have been watching streams where guys with absolutely no skill in guns could still get consistent headshots aiming down the sights. I could be wrong, but I hope not. Doesn't make sense to me in games where you are steadily aiming down the sights but the bullet ends up swerving away somewhere else.

That would put Perception right back to its FO3 status as a dump stat, then. The increased compass range is a poor benefit considering I don't much like the compass to begin with.

I wonder if the game will actually adapt if you make a character with low int, like the proper crpgs of old.
I want to make a headbashing brute that communicates through flatulence and violence and play with the wacky wasteland trait, and I want the dialogue to actually depict this.

This.

I've played a bit on the 360 and I have to agree with the above quoted text. I have next to no skill in guns yet I hit consistent headshots from a good distance away with certain firearms.

It does, however it's not full-on lol wut dialogue like in FO1 & 2:

According to the May 2010 edition of gaming magazine Game Informer, low intelligence conversations will be more prevalent in Fallout New Vegas. In place of the gibberish of past games however, the PC will simply not completely understand a conversation, confusing what someone is saying with something else entirely, and not understand what situation he is currently in. It is not currently known how often these options will appear or to what extent.

Could be that there's more info about it in the more recent interviews, but I don't recall any. Should be worth a playthrough with a stupid character in any case.

Depends how often people like to use VATS I guess. The accuracy will be handy in VATS to get fast shots off and hitting multiple enemies, but not sure if the tradeoff would be worth it. Also, all the gun related perks I've seen so far only require 6 PER max (Sniper etc) so any higher seems a waste.

By the way, anyone thinking of increasing a SPECIAL stat to 10 at the start might want to hold off on that as each one can be increased by +1 in the game similar to bobbleheads. I'll spoiler the how in case anyone wants to be surprised.

I can concur on this aspect. It is there but I can not completely attest to how full on it is when at Intelligence 1.

With my Int at 2 or 3 I recall one conversation with a scientist or something where in the middle of trying to figure out what the heck he was up to I got one option consisting of something along the lines of not understanding the mumbo-jumbo and that my PC would prefer it if he skipped that and cut to the chase, in a pretty 'dumb' way.

Here's why making release day DLCs prevents me, an avid fallout fan, from buying New Vegas!

I want it all - ALL, every piece of content for this game - I must have it. New Vegas' devs thought it would be a good idea to give extra content to each venue the game is sold at. For example, Steam users get the caravan pack, while gamestop customers get vaults suits etc.

Not only are they going to release a goty later one, that will include all dlcs for a sexy price, but now they pull this different-dlc-for-every-retailer crap.

I hate dlcs so much, but I still buy games that have them while completely ignoring the dlcs that come out later. A game is a game, they shouldn't withhold content just for an extra buck. Can you imagine how lame it would be if movies did that too? oh... wait, I forgot about extended/director cuts...

This world is going to hell...

Anyway, I will wait for some cool dude to compile all the dlcs into one .bsa/.esm and get it without missing a thing!

Stop justifying pirating the game.. i dont care if you pirate it or not, but justifying it is annoying as hell. Buy the full game then and pirate the DLCs. Do you also write a letter to the developer and publisher stating why you've pirated their game? How do they know they are losing your sale to DLC anyways?

A. I did write em a long ass letter.
B. I will buy the game when the GOTY comes out.
C. Buying it now as a pre-order will give me one dlc which is the worst thing, because then I'll be dragged into buying them all.

So will all 4 dlcs work with a fresh start of the game? I mean, will you get all the items to your inventory, or will they override each other?
