Haven't actually found a MMORPG lately that can hold my interest longer than a month. For me the social aspect of a MMO is important. In Aion I was part of a guild for a couple of days and struck me that a chat in the guild was actually uncommon. I have high hopes for GW2 but the colourful and cartoonish style does worry me. Still hoping some indie comes up with something that isn't everyone's cup of tea but with bearable graphics and controls.
I do like adventure or RPG games as well, FPS lost my interest though but these days most games seem to be targeted for teenagers. Don't be offended by this but at age 40+, one does not have the same interests any more when one was 15. Another problem is also that I have seen and read a lot of stories and these days everything seems to be a rechewed version of stuff experienced before, not just with games but music, books, movies and TV series as well. How do others coop with the boredom?

I tend to like turn based strategies more and more. I didn't like them at all when I was teen.

I read more and more books. Philosophy mostly, good stuff. You want meaningful interesting things, start reading philosophy.

Go for oldschool gaming - the good old times when games were hard, long, unforgiving and especially, innovative - there's a lot more variety and experimentation in old games, especially if you take some time to dig hidden and overlooked gems Although, judging by your avatar, that may be exactly where you're coming from.

Fix the topic title to 40+ then? Because now that you say it I kind of feel offended by the "old people and 30+". Even though I've not reached that age, it's close enough to hit the nerve. :]

basicly there is no age for games..i love sometimes the most simple games who target 3 years old and in anothere day i can look for the most complicated game etc, so case solved imo;) unless...you are looking for adults only games and there are planty of them:D
for example, finaly i have found real working cracked version of Video Strip Poker Supreme and i am getting it right now;)

but i must say that i understand the feeling of repeat and chewed material and i guess it's because of the money, companies working on sales and not on art as used to be and i am talking about all the media (movies ,music and gaming) it's sad, but you must find your golden path or you will find yourself with out imtrest of stuff you used to like which is not bad..there are always new thing to discover:)

I (almost) know exactly how you feel.
I'm only 27 but I've also noticed that I let most games be.
They don't contain an actual story which basically means the gameplay has to be UBER or there has to be some unknown factor for me to actually play it.
The best recent games appear to hail from Russia or Germany, which just shows how bad it's become.
Everything's mainstream stuff that everyone's played at least a 1000 times already (Yeah COD12 and FIFA2034!! WOOOT)
Which is fine, but just isn't my cup of tea.
It unfortunately sells like mad
I'm also patiently awaiting actual mature games, everything's aimed at either teens or teens+mildly older.
And with mature games, I'm not talking about those retarded porn ones either.
Hate that games labeled 18+ get thrown into some dark corner not to be sold anywhere.
It has caused the entire industry to suffer imho.
They could easily learn from Witcher for example.
Just take some random unknown but popular (either entirely mature or mildly) book series, and create a freagin game !
It's so easy, the story is already taken care of.
all you have to do is make it awesome.
Series do it all the time, True Blood anyone ?
But enough 
Movies and series don't bore me (yet), so I've got enough to do

I'd try Fallen Earth. There's always people on chat there. Just be sure to manually join Help channel, as that's the only global channel and there's a lot of chatting going on. (After certain level you don't autojoin it, so you have to remember to do it manually each time you log in). Large map and a lot of people running around all the time. Grouping is rare in the first sector, but much more common in later ones.
But its a fun game aside the social aspects too. Be sure to try some gambling once you finally earn some money in-game.

Dude, if you took care of yourself and you didn't hit 60 yet, you're not old, really. I'm 33, and i run and exercise more than 80% 'young' people i know (and by 'young' i mean age 18-28 ). Hell, most of them are lazy, overweight and stupid. The only moments they exercise is when they crap, or absolutely have to walk to the kitchen to eat some more.
Going back to gaming , i would say : Baldur's Gate + Baldur's Gate 2 + Throne of Bhaal + BGT Weidu mod + Longer Road mod
The first one will allow you to play the whole trilogy as one big game. The Longer Road mod will allow you to redeem Irenicus (by very careful dialogue choices and actions), and you will also be able (but only with a small chance) to add Balthazar to your party. It is truely epic, and will keep you busy for at least a month.

Games for old people  of all the topics.
I would recommend 'Geriatric Hospital' sequel to 'Theme Hospital', give old people their medication or they'll whine to death, set traps for kids in front of the hospital or they'll drive your old people crazy, make sure you have at least one chair for guests or they'll leave before saying goodbye, or hello, to their mother/father who they dumped into your hospital.

i have to take very longs breaks from it and it'll get fun again for maybe a few weeks. Music is another thing that i have a very hard time "connecting" to, when i was young i listened to music and created music almost daily, now it bores me to death, even listening to music.. Fortunately you find other things in life
