Has anyone gotten the DLC to work on a JTAG when running the game off external HDD? Right after it scans for the DLC it tells me 'disc could not be read' and exits. It's fine if I delete the content though.

The pre-order DLC's are just a few extra items (that you'll replace soon enough anyway) - hardly what I'd call must-have extra content.

Yeah DLC works just fine for me on the internal hdd, but it does kind of feel like cheating to be using those items, so I avoid using them; early on they are way overpowered.

Can you browse all perks when leveling up? If so, could anyone check what the level 30 perks are? GameBanshee still haven't updated their site.

I'll check the next time I level up.
Edit: Highest I can see at the moment is level 28 'Rad Absorption' which I think was already in FO3.

How are the quests and NPCs? I liked Fallout's exploration aspect, but the overal story was not that good (like in all Beth games).

In four hours of playing, I've barely left Goodsprings (your starting area) - so I haven't really gotten exposed to the actual story. The residents and side missions are just as varied as they were in FO3 - although I enjoyed PARTS of the story in FO3, though it didn't seem to really pay off until the end.
As many people have said, it's essentially more of the same - with refinements made here and there.

Played it for about 7 hours now. It's quite boring so far.

Care to explain why? Anyone up for a mini-review? Preferably someone who liked Fallout 3.

I still stay by my mini-review, if you liked FO3, you will like this. Also I just reached the Vegas Strip (after about 15 hours gameplay time with lots of sidequests) and it seems things just really pick up.
I already have 2 followers, something that took me way more time in FO3 to reach, and I just dumped one for another, so it appears followers are easier to gain and are very very effective. You get additional perks as long as some followers are with you, for instance a robot drone that I repaired hugely increases the radius in which enemies appear on the radar.
Also I play with very high Science/Speech/Lockpick/Repair and very little in terms of gun efficiency, so having henchmen is a huge help.
Also here is a hint for you future players (also, I try to keep it pretty spoiler free, but do tell me if it's too much): Until you reach the vegas strip, you will run into several factions and maybe already cross the Legion or the NCR (you will meet both frequently) and maybe loose standing with them. Don't worry, once you complete a certain main quest in the Vegas Strip both factions forgive you any missconducts against them. So don't worry about your standing too much before arriving in Vegas, go all out if you dare.

Im always cap-less, I stay cap-less, I need caps dammit, other than that, I'm enjoying myself, yeah its not filled with very many NPCs right now, but its picking up and I dont feel forced to do side quests for extra content, I actually want to do them!

I liked Fallout 3 but it was still flawed in many ways. I'm expecting the flaws to carry over to New Vegas.
Some of my pet peeves:
Armor functions as a percentage modifier to damage only. This is among the shittiest systems for modeling armor in a game, only second to D&D's ( and FO1/2's ) AC. It almost completely invalidates different gun types and all you end up considering is pure damage/second and accuracy. A plasma rifle will do 35% dmg to a power armored foe, just like a rocket launcher, a slingshot or a fist.
Everything takes way too much damage to die. Repeated headshots required for targets without helmets. Repeated shotgun blasts to the chest when the guy is bare-chested.
Silly scaling issues. Hickeys with shotguns taking more damage to kill, and dishing out more damage, than power armored enclave troopers with plasma rifles.
"Ticking" of the game engine. Works great for the consoles since it ticks at 30fps, but PC users get annoying microstuttering at 60fps.
Floaty character movement and funky physics. Non-existent AI and crummy animations.
Despite the whinefest, it's OK. It could just be so much better with very little work. I sincerely hope they've fixed at least something, but somehow I feel they were too scared to deviate from FO3 in the slightest.

My first impression is that they made a good effort on making it nonlinear. The main plot barely engages you and piques your interest which in a way is good, that way I feel less than motivated to pursue my cheesy "past" and go full on wanderlust.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

I can't remember how armor works in FO3, in FO:NV it works as a dmg threshold.
So a weapon does 13 dmg and you've got 12 armor...
It's gonna do something like 1 dmg.
That's why there's a perk called piercing strike for unarmed/melee combat for example.
(Ignore the first 15DT on a target).
And why there's multiple ammo types (Hollowpoint, Armor piercing).
I like it !
I also think unarmed/melee is going to be pretty viable, escpecially seeing the :

so fucking pissed right now. i'm in the solar plant and i need to repair the auxiliary power to the mainframe but i fucked up using a skill book. so i go to reload the autosave and it gives me this wierd error about dlc (protip i have no dlc) and it dumped me back to the main menu. now it refuses to load that save. fucking 3hours and two levels down the shitter. fuck this game.
this hasn't been the only bug either. this is the only 360 game i've played that consistently locks up the entire machine. cant even use the guide button to reboot. pain in the ass.
edit - Just checked, NONE of my fucking saves load now. They all pop up "this save requires dlc that is no longer available. Load anyway?" I hit yes, and then it just locks up.
WHAT FUCKING DLC?! I can't fucking believe this.
i can has computar?!

Ffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, i remember my experience with Fallout 3 - that thing crashed my console hundred times (especially when i played these shitty DLC's -_-). Looks like New Vegas is no different, so this time i will not even buy the GOTY edition...Already sick from unfinished and buggy games.

Oh god, I am laughing my ass of right now...
Spoiler: | Had a quest to find a sex robot for a casino, found some reprogrammable robot somewhere and made it into a sex robot, and playing a female character I immediately tested it on myself... screen went black, there were sounds of a power drill, screen faded in again and robot said: Operation completed, to which I respond: I can't feel my legs! |
I play with the Whacky Wasteland perk, so maybe that's why I had this weird encounter

Goshdarnit, stuck at the quest next to the T-Rex (Boone's quest):
Spoiler: |
So I discovered the woman signing you up for hotel rooms is the guilty party (both got the evidence paper and her suspicious dialogue tippet her off), but I can't get her to move outside so Boone can shoot her, nor can I tip Boone off (in fact he gets pissed if I try to talk to him).
So what gives?

Spoiler: | Well talking to him worked fine during nights for me when he is on watch, and then you could help him to get the guilty party in front of his post for him to kill, then I lead the lady there and he shot her head off. After that you can make him your follower, he is very strong.
Maybe there was a speech check to get him to talk, don't remember though. |

Yay! Recovered a save (or it just wasn't borked with that DLC thing) not too far back from where it was and managed to fly through everything I had done previously. Stuck though....can't find a person.
Spoiler: | Anyone done the mission for The King yet? I'm trying to track down Major Elizabeth Kieran to find out why the NCR is in squatter camps, but the map icons only take me to the camps. One of them has NCR troops asking for a password, which I obviously don't have. Where is this so called major?? |
