I had sync issues on Toy Story 3 (1080p mkv rip), and found changing the dts codec in ffdshow from the default libdts to libavcodec resolved the issues. Any ideas why this is? is there a disadvantage to using libavcodec over libdts? Post stolen from Movie forum as wasn't really the right place! Space for rent. Contact me for rates!

libdts decodes to 32-bit floating point while libavcodec decodes to 16-bit integer. If you don't hear the difference than you shouldn't care. Like I said, if you don't hear any difference, than it doesn't really matter. The difference is precision. It is most noticeable on high-end audio equipment and headphones. Also, because the initial precision is much higher, processing on the audio is much better (like Creative Crystalizer, other audio filters in ffdshow or Windows or audio card). But really, it's like complaining that you are not watching 1080p video on a 720p TV. If you can't notice the difference, it shouldn't matter. I can suggest AC3Filter, which also runs in 32 float mode and is faster than ffdshow (libavcodec).
