Yeah but it's sadly (at least branded) a Gothic game. They all got released first in Germany and then to the rest of the world. That's my point. Surprisingly the game can be bought here in Germany since Thursday. I've been in a couple of stores on said day and they all sold it.

I can't stress this enough. If you like Gothic, but didn't play the third, because of the premature release, play it like right now with the community patch 1.74. It's a brilliant game, I'd say at least as good as the other two?
So, why am I saying this here and now? Because I played g3 for the first time like two weeks ago, when I first got pissed reading this very thread. If you are in a similar position, do yourself a favor, play Gothic 3!
Yadda yadda yadda... G3 is pure garbage and the allmighty community patch doesn't change anything of it's flaws in gameplay. For example, if you decide to side with the rebels, the game mutates into a fucking grindfest. Go to town A, do all quests, kill all orcs, go to town B, do all quests, kill all orcs, got to town C, do all quests, kill all orcs... what does the patch do about it? What does the patch do about the awful combat? Right, nothing... I'm nearly vomitting every time when I'm reading how the Community patch makes G3 so awesome... really guys, srsly.. G3 is lost. Get over it already. Not everyone dislikes G3 because of it's bugs. If you like it, fine. But why are most of those Gothic fanatics so eager to force their opinion onto others with this damn community patches. I just don't get it. In every fucking thread about Gothic 3, you'll find countless times the same words.. "try it with the community patch, it's/it [insert fanatism here]". What are those guys hope to gain from it?
PB is ashamed of G3. They stated it countless times. I had some interesting talk with Michael Hoge on the Risen booth at last year's Gamescom about G3. And it wasn't in G3's favor.

Exactly. People need to get off this rose-tinted spectacles bullshit .. Gothic 2 was amazing, absolutely no contesting that, but to constantly whine about the combat in Gothic 3, whilst praising G2? Yeah. Not smart
If you ask me; Gothic 3 got, and gets, a lot of WHOLLY unnecessary hatred. It's off-the-charts better than the shit we're being handed in the form of G4 and as close to G2 as you're going to get, without it actually being G2.
I've actually tried Gothic 3 with the community patch (and I absolutely HATED gothic 3 the way it was when it was released). Sad to say the patch while great didn't change my opinion on the game. The combat is completely devoid of feeling. The game looks pretty alright for an old game now but that doesn't change the combat being completely lackluster.
There is just no feeling at all to it. Maybe it's just my nostalgia but wasn't the combat in Gothic 2 better (than Gothic 3)?

I didn't do that. Imho the overall controls in G2 were horrible and still are, so is the combat. But the rest made up for that

Really, I didn't encounter such things. Although, maybe because Risen's combat was so easy because of the OP block.
Is it beyond the reach of the modding community? Perhaps through scripting things like training and sleeping and different skill system can be introduced? Business as usual for a Gothic game, relying on the community to finish the game.

Aye, well said . I don't get it, why people are still raging when they hear about Gothic 3, even now that it has reached version 1.74 with help from the community. I am a Gothic enthusiast and I liked the 3rd game as much as the first one. The 2nd one + the expansion was the peak of the series, I loved the story in that one and the rest was Gothic 1 enhanced. Gothic 3 has the most epic soundtrack and feeling from the series, in my opinion. The world from Gothic 3 is also very well made (I bow to the lead designer of that game). The combat was not the best but I liked it. If only JoWhores didn't interfere with Piranha Bytes' plans for the game, it would have been the best from the series, I think.

I will. Luckily I wrote it down last year. But there are two problems. 1st It's in German 2nd I'll need to translate it and my english is utter shit

I have Gothic 3 with the latest CP 1.74 and everything on max at details but sometimes there are blurry textures on doors and stuff like that. Like the door is open but there's a low res texture of a closed door on it I can't seem to find a workaround.. it's a little annoying this thing with the blurry doors
Walking like a madman on a barbed wire across the chaos of insanity
Various images, found a decent weapon after a fight with a field raider so it's a bit easier even though I can't take much damage, not much to explore either this early in the game, some gate is blocking access to the next area so I've been pretty much all over the area I can explore, probably need to advance some quest to continue.
(Mostly goblins with the occasional chief and shaman and a lot of bloodflies though one field raider and two bandits were also encountered along with four boars, two chickens and one farmers ox though he didn't care much it seems.)
(Reverted localization back to Russian for now, still attempting to find a good mix which would be Russian text and quest info since there is no localized equivilient of it but the UI and descriptions would be in English, should be doable but that's just a guess.)
EDIT: Worked quite well, also found out how to disable most of the UI while keeping it fully functional for menu screens and such.

Good, should anyone feel like it (Assuming it's OK and all.) the localization is part of \Data_Test_lvl69\data_test_lvl69.pak at about 200 MB minus the voice and any localized SFX and textures.
basedata.pak and game0.pak also contain parts of the UI elements and menu data at about 40 MB for base and 300 MB for Game0.
I'll see if I can't find these and upload them should it spread and if they're not available by then.
(Still uncracked I guess so demo data might be needed for it to run unless it's a full clone and uses a disc check.)
