apparently anyone can join under anyones name. The server doesn't check the minecraft client DB or anything, as long as you know a whitelisted name you can join.
I've just about had it. Garus can't keep the server secure so I'ma stop playing on the server. I'ma talk to some friends about making one. |

Well and enable the server to check the official database so that only people can play who logged in themselves.
Means that unlegitimate players can't enter the server...

or just whitelist IP addresses instead of names. Or if most are on dynamic IPs, wipe the users and have them use names not related to what they use here. Blur out player names in screenshots, etc

Why don't you just inject your server with Llamacraft nerfed lighters mod? Also if you are using Hey0's server mod, you could use these plugins:
SessionProtect, LocalChat, MineSecurity, Cuboid

If possible to whitelist IP's, would be a good idea.

Or you could just use MineSecurity plugin, then you will only need to login when you join the server.

When I build anything my first rule is I don't put fire and anything flammable in the same room. Stone or brick only for the most part. Fire (and lava) has a way of spreading to anything wood. I had a freakin' storage chest catch on fire (but it didn't burn down) about 8 spaces away from lava once. So now any torches get recessed into the wall and covered with glass. Lava gets covered with glass as well. Since then, no problems for me.
