I've been looking into ereaders for a while since reading digtal books on the PC is a pain in the ass. The Sony PRS-350 ereader seems to be a good candidate. It has touchscreen, 2GB memory and E-Ink. It's a bit pricy (180 euros), but I have a 100 euro coupon for a digital store.
My problem is the plethora of ebook formats, it's a mess really. You have several formats, from several sources, on top of that most have also DRM. Now I have a small collection of ebooks here, most are in .pdb since those seem to work excellent in yBook. I've googled, the Sony ereader does not seem to support it natively. Apparently one can convert pdb to html, convert it back to .lrf and then use Calibre to get it on the PRS-350. Won't this screw up the layout? Isn't DRM supposed to block this possibility? How can DRM be circumvented so easily? How do I check whether a file has DRM? Why the fook don't these bastards use one standard format?

Damn you, you reading impaired cheap bastards. Guess I'll have to buy it and see for myself Sad Too bad the freaking online store I got a coupon for only sells Sony ereaders, life sucks. Sony does seem to have the most "open" ereaders thouigh, they apprently don't give a shit what files are read on it and what software is used. Unlike some other companies.

I use my iphone as an ereader and it uses epub files. I do use calibre to convert the book if its not an epub and it works fine for that. I have never tried to remove drm from an ebook cause I have no need to I get most of my books from demonoid so no drm but im sure it cant be that hard to do. oh and calibre is really good at setting up the proper format for the file type, love that program. enjoy your new ereader Smile

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one

Yeah, I found out ebooks on the net are stripped of DRM. God I love leeching shit for free Very Happy.
Calibre is a fine piece of software, it's free too. Very easy to use and brilliant for sorting ebooks.
