Thanks for the tips on happiness, im gonna watch that shit like an eagle now.

also imo, I didnt like moving the difficulty up cause it seemed like the AI was way ahead of me as far as research goes. But I guess thats the idea since there is no way they would win a even battle.

and doesnt playing marathon just stretch everything out? instead of building a lighthouse in 8 turns in normal mode, does marathon mode make building that same lighthouse 30 turns? The game is pretty boring if you are NOT at war, most my turns even my workers are ZZZ'ing. I couldnt imagine doing nothing for that much longer in game.

for some reason I couldnt change the turn setting in advanced set up, trying so actually crashed my game. It would be fun to play a standard game much longer then 500 turns. Can you guys set max turns using skidrow?

There's mods around that boost production in the longer time scales, so you may want to look into that. Research is still slow, but you can produce stuff faster than you would if everything was proportionately stretched (like it is by default).

Playing none marathon for me is boring, because a few turns after I get swordsman, the unit is out dated. On Marathon at least they last a while before you need to replace\upgrade them.

I always harass, right from the start. Make alliances with others, build some military units and don't let those "hard" AI's get the upper hand or they'll annihilate you. You don't need to wipe them, just trouble them enough, don't let them expand, so that they don't have a chance to get better. Also, don't let those big bully AI's annihilate other nations or they'll become so big they'll crush you. Once you see a bigger AI attack a smaller one, help defend him.

Yeah. He's a big war monger is that dude Smile Ideally, you want him as your neighbour and to find & kill him real fast, although he does settle down a little in the later stages, and if you can avoid him on harder difficulties, then a victory may be possible by other means Wink

At least in Civ 4 you could anticipate when he was gonna declare on you.
In Civ 5 the AI declares war on you whenever it feels like it. No the AI declares on you whenever the RNG spits out a number that the AI deems "nice" Very Happy

The AI picks on me for not knowing how to play right... They constantly insult me, and seem to only attack my friendly/ally city states. I don't mind because it gives me a reason to attack them without attacking them. I do get tired of the near constant insults from them though.

So the + Science determines my research point cost. Does +Engineer influence anything important? My guess would be Production speed.

I'd have to agree. I'm having problems with standard, having to constantly run units back to a town to upgrade.

If you followed Sulla's excellent Civ IV Walkthrough, he has started a new Civ V one:

Good read this, and points out the AI weakness off the bat Wink

Good read sir, expecially while i'm playing. Just started an Epic playthrough, the differential is retarded. Normal playthrough = Everyone rejects coop requests, and i get insulted + attacked constantly / Epic playthrough = the same turn they expire, every civ will request coop + open borders.

Also, I'm playing with race bias, Epic, Earth. Why is Germany / England / Singapore, etc near me? I can understand England, but I've yet to even run into Montazuma down in Mexico...They need to do some serious AI Adjustment. Although I guess if you started a Middle eastern civ and it started you there with a 10 block area to grow it would be a bit frustrating too Smile

The diplomacy is really horrendous. That said it has never been a big thing for in previous civ games, I have for the most part gone by myself. But in civ5 you have no choice, it just feels pointless. You could just start out with war against everyone, it wouldn't make a BIG difference.

MP is worse than ever, while it has been improved gameplay wise the interface makes it impossible to give the right orders at the right time because you not only have to fight the extremely horrible lag, the zooming around camera that is only set to annoy you but you apparently also can not fight your friends when they are not at the same region

i encountered a annoying bug: apparently there is a city limit, once you go past that number the game crashes. the official forums report the limit to be 69 cities, but my game crashes after going past 59.

This is not just aimed at civ 5, but you got to wonder how bugs like that get past initial testing.

I think this story was mentioned earlier, but this probably had something to do with it, especially considering the quality assurance team was hit:

http://kotaku.com/5582531/layoffs-hit-civilization-v-creators

no matter which way 2K tried to spin it, less people working at Q&A is less eyes and less reports finding and details bugs that seem so obvious to us right now.

Not yet. There are a few beta mods that are changing a bit the balance and alters the game mechanics, but nothing worth mentioning for now.

If you want a new civilization, you can try the Kael's Queen of the Iceni mod. You get a new leader (Bouadica), a new civilization (the celts), a few new units (gaelic warriors and sons of Morrigan) and a few extra tweaks.

Kael also confirmed that it will make a Fall from Heaven version for Civ 5, so that's our best hope for playing something different.

wow. I wasn't overly thrilled about the changes, but I figured i'd give it a fair shake. It doesn't seem like they did a great job on it though so I'm loathe to try it.

I love the game itself. It's easy to get into without reading up on first.

The problem is, the release was without a doubt premature. Majorly buggy, and the multiplayer is far from finished.

I just hope it won't take too long til we see all these issues adressed.

How hard IS this game to mod? I'd love to see something that made the ancient ruins actually worth grabbing, like they were in Civ 4. Make em spit out a settler every now and again, or a free tech like they used too. Seems simple in concept, but who knows.
