So Deus Ex's multiple approaches seem to be present. They also mention for demo purposes the player had unlimited ammo and health, while all enemies were of the light type (there's light, medium and heavy). The producers also mention they are aware the AI is not good enough yet, but they say the game is basically done and they'll tweak the AI and such during the remaining six months.
Sounds good y'all. |
Thanks for posting that, I'm rather relieved now

I have high hopes and I agree I like how the devs are handling this. However, isn't this always the case?
"Oh we have everything done except for AI, don't worry we will get to that and it will be brilliant."
Then they spend the last 6 months working on DLCs and the AI guy gets laid off a month before release or maybe goes back to finish school at the local community college.

Why would that be the case? I've read enough previews in which a game was absolutely trashed.
JackArbiter wrote: | "Oh we have everything done except for AI, don't worry we will get to that and it will be brilliant." |
Most dev studios would come up with a bs story trying to explain it. These guys however acknowledge the AI is their main concern now, but since the game is done they'll work on it.

Jesus Christ! We'll have teh awesome "regenerative health" feature.
The latest IGN preview gives more details.
Spoiler: | Teh expected -ization iz here. |
EDIT:
Read and laugh/cry/vomit:
"JJB: I don't think we're crusaders. I think we're fully conscious that the industry needs a game that sells well and that a wide range of people can play. And I think we're also very conscious of what the fans of Deus Ex like and want, even though we're making changes like the health system.
IGN: You mean regenerating health?
JJB: Yeah. No more "I have 2 HP left in my arm." That's one of the major things we've gotten flak for. It was incredible. Just this never-ending thread on the forums.
IGN: To me, the regenerating health and cover system seem like logical steps forward for the series.
JJB: That's exactly what we think."
Shoot, get shot, hide in cover, wait for health to regenerate, rinse, repeat... Familiar?!

No shit! The industry is FULL of retarded games that even half-brainers can beat...

And also:

mind you that this is a prequel and even JC Denton with all his augmentations can't compete with this guy who has older technologies just for the sake of derps
this game is taking the Invisible Wars path, and that game turned out to be a complete turd.

Nah it'll just be regenerating bullets at first. "Oh but it's just so logical and realistic" why would ammo just be on the ground or magically dropped from enemies?!

Because the whole game will be designed with regen in mind. It would have to be huge fucking mod to make it otherwise.

Regen can be made tolerable... It worked well enough in ME2 for me, at least on higher difficulty levels: normally the enemy wouldn't let you just sit it out, unless you are camping really far away, so you still had to be careful during the fights. And getting killed was still very easy since it happened quite fast if you act without thinking.
So I think if the combat itself can be made dangerous enough, regen health is not such a big a deal - it doesn't really matter how you heal yourself in the end, it's what happens during the fight that matters to me.
Lack of injuries is a definite step backwards though, since this actually added a new level to the whole damage system.
I didn't care much for the health system in the original DE, I had loads of medpacks, and in games like that I usually quick load after every battle if I take too much damage, so it kinda broke the pacing and made the game a little repetitive., so some kind of a change in a system was refreshing some time ago. But that's just my personal play style.
Overall I still prefer some sort of a cross between systems. Something like ME1 used, for example: regen shields, and you either use a medpack, or invest in slow health regen skills/armor. I think DE had something similar (without the shields).

I don't understand the problem with a properly implemented regen system. What's so great about pushing the medkit button?

@Radicalus Did you notice "used to" and "these times"? Gamespot has never been any good in my opinion, while I used to like IGN a lot. But that was long time ago, when gaming was still in a good state.

When did everyone suddenly decide that any year after 2000 is "The Year of Ye Retard" ?
Cause I didn't get that memo. Regenerating health etc is only good for ADD persons who can't keep track of stuff.
Stats are good. Blood over the screen, uber-blurry vision and "Low health" warning is for turdbrains.

I get it, health regen sucks, but medpacks are and always have been retarded.
Painkillers, bandages, food (when it gives you health), in the end they're all "body magically repairs itself" idiot candy. So what's the difference? You have to keep up with some immersion-killing bullshit with one, and with the other you're also a derp, but you don't have to be arsed contemplating it.
I liked stalker with its bandage-to-stop-bleeding functionality. Let the body regen except when bleeding out. It's like a medium path between derpdom, but still for that reason squarely within the realm of derp.
Just because wolfenstein did it in the 90's (and yes I was playing it back then) doesn't mean that magically repairing holes in your body with bandages and neosporin is awesome functionality.
That said, yes this game will probably be consoled to shit in a variety of other ways.
As to being able to shoot your way through the door if you don't invest in hacking... that was an original deus ex playstyle (the functionality may take it too far, idunno).
I think we're all going to be a bit revisionist here. I doubt the game will be able to live up to my expectations, largely because I've put the original up on a pedestal.
