Untill you experience losing places due to A.I. not pitting and all the other crap... |
AI still has simulated pitstops and you don't loose places unless you make mistakes or you are driving slowly. If you maintain constant speed you can easily win races. For 20% races all you need is make sure that you drive your best laps during the period when AI is making its stop and your stop. If you do that you should return to track with lead or in race for a lead, then everything is up to your driving.
Offcourse a lot is depended on car that you drive and setup. On certain tracks you don't have a chance in a weaker one, but there are some where you can win with Virgins and HRTs.
I think the biggest problem with AI is that it can't pass you. So often player will pass a lot of cars on start (AI also can't start), then he'll hold a lot of AIs back with driving where AI would be much faster on normal track. When pit stops come AI will put in some good laps during player stop and player will loose quite a lot of places. And off course RAGE like crazy. |
It's not about loosing, i love to loose against proper AI. It's about loosing against a cheating one. Hell, if codemasters AI raced online they would've ban it. |
AI is actually cheating less than in most racing games. They have no catchup logic and thats bugging a lot of people.
I know it was weird for me also at start. But I figured it in one race. I was in Virgin on second difficulty at Turkey. Started at second place, got into lead at start, but lost two places during pit stops. I was angry because I thougt I was fast enough to stay in lead so I restarted the race, but got similair story. Now, I loved that track and since I was really suspecting AI of cheating I wen't into custom race, improved my setup a little and improved my race consistancy. I won next race.

On the contrary. Check out the developer post on the official forum. It does have cathcup. If you are behind enough cars will employ a "fuel conservation" tactic and slow down. Amazingly, they only do that for the player, not for other AI cars.

I really like the feel of the game but when all this BS about AI and other proof came to light about how sneaky they have been setting up the games pace etc, well i feel like someone ripped the very soul out my chest even though i pirated the game..
Its like ive been ripped off regardless if i paid or not.. disgusting.

Oh give over you feckin' drama queens, it's a game and a damn good one at that. I've put about 25 hours into it up to now and still love it. It deserves the review scores, AND IT'S BEING FIXED. Sheesh.
"I pirated it but still feel ripped off" What? That makes as much sense as a condom in a convent. Uninstall it if you feel that badly.

try grasping the meaning of what i said here, the game was the next best thing again in the industry for racing f1 games, and they did not let slide did they how cheating the Ai are?
so no i wont get over it myself here ( couldnt give a toss about the others ) but the game for "ME" was supposed to have a fair system, where when im racing no matter what game setting the AI was, the Ai is not meant to be warping around like steroidal short distance runners..
so to sum up,
"pirated it but feels like im ripped off" is in effect saying, hey the game was looking like roses and would of been worthy of a purchase, but when finding out the AI issues etc it did not live up to "MY" expectations from what ive been keeping an eye on, with it over the time it was in development. Hence even though I stole the game to play say, its still disgusting that i wasted my time leeching it because it came up smelling of shit not the fucking roses"
so they loose a sale. good for them..
As a game its fine, as a more accurate depiction of said game no its not for me no more.

Ah see, if you'd said that in your other post it would have made more sense. I understand you were looking forward to it and would have paid money and somehow feel 'robbed' but the fact remains, it's a solid game with a few niggles that have been addressed by the developers. The AI thing doesn't bother me in the slightest, the times are still generated from real world data within the constraints of the game engine. They just need refining.
I guess the point of my post was to say that the postives of this game massively outweigh the negatives, and a few vocal posters are making out like it's the end of the bleedin' world.

Actually not one issue has yet been addressed by the devs and unless you can see into the future ,im not sure how you can give then credit for something they haven't done yet.
The game is good if you treat it as a racing game(Grid and Mario Kart are racing games)
however this is not a racing game its an F1 racing game
and in that respect it fails in a lot of ways as F1 is all about that split second in time
As codies code doesn't seem to be able to do addition and requires the ai so cheat to be able to complete it fails in some of the racing game aspects as well.
The one place where it truly is a SIm and above every other title is in the portrayal of money above everything just like Bernies F1

I'm actually talking of A.I. NOT pitting. It only happened twice but still... It's not really immersive and you'd feel stolen from a win. (And yes it was a dry race)
I just can't believe they can keep those things in the game on launch. Eventho I have lots of fun with it aswell. But it tastes damn sour those bugs.

So you didn't link to this article a couple of pages back?

Make your mind up. Hate the game or don't, I don't really give a shit, but at least be consistent before ranting.

Why are you linking to a pr statement by the devs
And did that magic away the issues after it was posted.
When the patch has been released and people can judge that codemasters have fixed the issues then you can post the they have addressed the issues.
The funny thing about that statement is it wasn't posted (even thought the issue was being widely discussed on the forums) till gaming websites started posting what players were saying about the AI.
It doesn't give a list of the bugs they are working on nor an apology for shipping a game in that state so the only thing it does address it codemasters covering their ass.
This is the same game developer of Dragon Rising (a well addressed game and grid ,the 8 ball was also well addressed etc etc
Its not like that gamers have been treated as valued customers by this dev previously.

Look, I never said they had fixed the issues, I stated they are working on them, which is the point of the paragraph I quoted from the link YOU originally posted. That is all. Now you are just being pedantic. What do you want me to say?
How about : "OK, the game is shit, broke and not worth the money. I'll stop playing it immediately."
Well no, I like it, and the few issues are being blown out of all proportion. This is the last I'll say on this, because we'll be here all fucking month otherwise. You have your opinion, and I have mine. You carry on hating it, I'll carry on liking it and waiting patiently for a patch.
Peace.

Well the MP is very similar to their other racing games that use the same engine. The server browser is pretty much the same, you sometimes see other players cars become transparent due to connection issues (I think). I didnt race online so much but so far its been fun without any major issues.

even the pitstop procedure is majorly weird:
From the track I enter the pit lane, ok.
Sometimes cars entered the lane right AFTER ME passes through me...
I stop at the box, change tires, the guy with the lollipop (by bad chance) yells "WAIT!", I have to wait for the passing by cars and then I can finally go (no passing through appliable here...).
On the way out from the pit others AI cars can pass through me, AGAIN.
So, why apply the "passing through" method is not always applied?

Non game-breaking bugs? How long did you play it, 15 minutes? |
It's not game-breaking to have a 18 sec pit stop and lose 5 places in Monaco. It's brain-breaking. And homicidal.

Easily solved by staying out an extra lap or two. There isn't a single bug in this game that renders it unplayable, which to me is the definition of 'gamebreaking'. It runs maxed on my aging 9800GT and it hasn't crashed once. On my second season now.

It must be a conditional bug, cause ive pitted with many AIs in, and i come out when theres space. at least on my 2 races (ive restarded like 15000501 times LOL i can never win on a gamepad but its fun)

First Patch Changelog
Quote: | Ever since the release of their F1 2010 title, Codemasters has been hard at work fixing the many bugs and problems that spoiled their otherwise impressive first Formula One title.
Now, a first list of key changes that will be introduced with the upcoming patch has been released, including fixes for most of the problems that have been reported by the community.
Included are fixes for the pit stop & puncture problems, AI issues, performance issues with the PC version and lots of other changes as you can see below:
Bug fixes:
1. Corrupt Save Games – We have identified an over-zealous anti-cheating check that manifested as falsely identified corrupt saves, specifically the ones relating to practice and R&D upgrades, the save-games should now load without issue. However if any of you are experiencing corrupt saves outside of this then please continue to send your PS3 save game files to us (Xbox360 & PC saves aren’t of any use to us) and we can test these against the latest patch to see whether all instances of this issue have now been fixed
2. AI not pitting in dry races where a mandatory pit stop was required (20% or more) – This has been fixed.
3. Player held in pit-stop too long – We’ve improved exit logic so that it isn’t too cautious in holding players during a pit-stop.
4. Puncture frequency reduced – The likelihood of players suffering punctures has been reduced.
5. Pit-stop lock-ups – Fixed several instances which caused the pit crew to lock-up and not be able to service the cars.
6. Automatically updating race strategy – Selecting prime tyres from the tyre menu (over default option) now updates the strategy so that the pit-crew assign options during the pit stop as opposed to re-attaching another set of primes (in a dry race of 20% or more).
7. First lap calculates correctly – The lap time for the first lap of the race now calculates correctly, from the lights going out as opposed to the cars crossing the start line.
Improvements:
1. OSD changes – showing split times rather than gap to leader – We’ve changed how the OSD timing information functions so that split times are now displayed on the OSD, showing race time and race time differences to the other cars – I.e. how far ahead/behind are at a sector boundary.
2. AI affected more by damage received – Damage sustained by an AI’s car will have a greater effect their handling characteristics, effectively slowing damaged AI down more. AI cars that cannot maintain a racing speed will naturally yield to faster cars & come into the pits for repairs. As before, If they receive too much damage, they will retire from the race.
3. AI yielding to other cars when not on flying lap in qualifying – Improved AI behaviour to move off the racing line or out of the player’s way when the player is on a flying lap.
4. Increased wheel support – Increased wheel support and force feedback tweaks (where applicable) for the following wheels; Thrustmaster Ferrari F430 Force Feedback (officially supported), Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience (officially supported), Thrustmaster RGT Force Feedback Pro Clutch (not officially supported but will work), Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo S & GT3 RS2 (both officially supported).
5. Wet weather improvements – Rebalanced graphical and handling effect of cars driving on a wet track – the level of wetness has been increased as well as tyre trails being made more prominent.
6. Improved Damage Modelling – Tweaks to the damage system so that more damage is visible / received during lesser impacts.
7. Next lap invalidated time trial logic – In time trial the next lap is no longer invalidated for any offence committed in the 3rd sector. It is calculated per track and is predominantly based on the final corner.
8. AI: Driver Behaviours – Addressed some issues in driver behaviour balancing that were causing occasionally unrealistic finishing positions.
PC-specific improvements:
1. PC ‘replay saving’ and playback – You will be able to save out the files to replay them later or share them with others.
2. DX11 – The F1 2010 patch will enable the game to run on DX11. All of the graphical improvements are configurable from graphical options when in DX11. Specifically, “ultra” settings for ’shadows’ and ‘postprocess’. (These options require a lot of processing power, and are only recommended for high-end graphics cards.
3. Eyefinity Support – F1 2010 now supports 3 x 1 or 3 x 2 monitor display setups (minimum requirement of 3 x monitors)
4. Optimisations – We have made better use of multi-core processors in general, which will lead to better framerates on higher end machines.
5. Additional Support – Support for SandyBridge processors, which also adds support for currently available ‘modern’ processors, like Core i7, which wasn’t correctly detected previously.
The patch is currently still in the works as the patch will likely include more changes than listed below, tt will take another few weeks until the download is available. |
