This thread is another example of the PC-gaming-master-race. They whine all the time about how games are dumbed down for console gamers with autosaves and low difficulty and how they are glad that certain games stay console-only, since releasing such stupid games on PC would be an insult.

And what's the reaction when a console game gets ported to PC?
"This is way too hard", "I don't want to plan my steps in advance" and "Trainers please".

Talk about missing the point completely. It's not hard finishing the game with the timer, it just doesn't let you explore the world as much as one would like.

I haven't said anything bad about the timers but I'm tired of reading all these idiot posts directed at those of us who use a trainer to alter the timer. I use it not because I can't complete the game with the timer but because I'd like to take my time and explore every nook and cranny of the game world, I'm a completionist. The devs may not have intended for us to do it that way but that's how I want to do it and thus I'll use a trainer.

I had no problem completing the first game with the timers (even though some did) but I know I didn't explore as much as I'd have liked either.

Don't you miss the atmosphere? The game is centered around the concept of people being in trouble NOW, survivors are dying as you walk around the map unless you help them.
For me, the timer makes the game interesting and sets it apart from other RPGs. Dead Rising without pressure is like Mass Effect without story: generic.
The point I wanted to make (apart from trolling and starting a discussion) is that you guys are killing the concept of the game, forcing it into a regular looting and level-up fest like Diablo (maybe there a better RPGs to compare it to, I don't follow the genre).

Pssst Garus, djaoni is on OUR side... he was agreeing with us, in that we don't disable the timer because "the game is too hard" like certain trolls attempt to insinuate, rather we disable the timer so we can enjoy exploring the game at our own pace Wink

@me7

We're not killing the spirit of the game. We're doing what gamers have done since forever; taking a game and enjoying it OUR WAY. We want a zombie sandbox game and, with the timers removed, we have one! That's all there is to it and as far as I'm concerned, this horse is long since deceased. Your constant flogging isn't going to bring it back to life.

Just drop it already. We don't care that you don't care that we don't care for having time limits. Play the sodding game your own way and let us play it ours.

Timers do put some pressure and sense of urgency on the game but it's very unforgiving and sometimes you're called right when it's about to expire and told to travel all the way back, fortunately survivor timers are pretty lenient and you can usually take care of a few missions before they become urgent, unfortunately you often get new messages as you play so it builds up and some do give other bonuses than extra PP (Progress points?) such as combo cards or zombrex.

I've been trying to play with it but I've moved it around quite a few times already as well as I just want to explore at times.
(That other mall is huge and there's a lot of hidden extras to discover such as combining new equipment and finding the combo for it, tinkering with your bike and finding gifts for Katey like water guns, marbles and the like.)

I'm having fun but I'm playing it very relaxed, about 10 hours into the game (More than what would be possible with the time limit.) and am still exploring, over 10.000 zombies killed as well now but I just started act 3.

EDIT: It depends on playstyle though, as a action game it works but as a sandbox title it sort of doesn't depending on how you try to play.

Leveling up, lots of side quests, simplistic combat, masses of items, limited item slots, item combinations... what else is DR?

This game is damn addicting, cant stop playing it.

Lol, right now i'm play strippoker with some of the survivers, atleast strippoker they remove clothes upon defeat.
currently playing with one of these three boss chicks waiting to get them undressed, Epic shit. Laughing

Please stop bashing on the timer (yeah i like the timer also), without it there wouldn't be any pace at all, no casualties etc..
Beside's the main objectives dont lean on timers that urgent anyway.

By the way, you can encounter survivers by exploring too, this way they arent on the objective's list 'yet'.

OK, I'll leave your thread alone, just remember: next time a publisher does not take risks and streamlines a game so it doesn't stray from what gamers are used for the past ten years, don't blame others. Remember that you wanted it this way.
I for my part hope that Dear Rising 3 does not go the same path as Resident Evil 5.

So then what do you use the extended/unlimited weapons durability for? Not to make the game any easier, right?

You're wrong mate. The survivors aren't dying as I walk around exploring the map, because survivors are triggered by the time. And since I'm rewinding the hours every now and then, I won't get any survivor missions until I choose to let time pass. That way I can explore when I want to, and do missions/survivor saving when I feel like it.

Actually, this is exactly what I mean. You remove the design and flow of the game, turning it into yet another GTA clone.
The tension in the game gave me the biggest kick in gaming since the story of Mass Effect 2, honestly. If your way of playing it feels as satisfactory, be my guest and enjoy it your way.

Ok but you're inevitably dumbing down the game that way, whether that was your goal or not. All the stuff you discover, the items you collect and combine, make it easier to complete the missions, even if you unfreeze the timer for them.

Not trying to tell people how they should play the games, you guys play it in godmode for all I care, but don't complain about the dumbing down of games (especially on consoles) and then turn around and dumb down a game that otherwise would've been a real challenge.

Yes you are and you're insulting those of us who choose to play it any other way than "your" way, then not only are you insulting us - you're also making DEMANDS and laying down ground rules on what we can or cannot say about the dumbing down of videogames. Who are you? God?

You know what, God? I don't believe in you. You're just a figment of some very fevered imaginations.

Yes, because disabling a time limit on a game is the very heights of "hypocrisy" right? Sod off. All you've done is troll the shit out of this thread with your holier-than-thou bullshit attitude and it's pissing me off.

Take a hike.

My only gripe with the game are the bosses. When I managed to get that biker get stuck in a wall it took me 2 minutes of bashing him with spiked baseball bat to defeat him. Wtf?

Dear Rising 3 is going to be a flop. Running around a mall, killing zombies is one thing, but who wants to run around the woods fighting zombie-dear and the occasional zombie-bear boss?

I killed him again on my second playthrough, He died after 10 hits.

Must be a combination of higher attack power(am lvl 42) and my combo weapon.

Also, the first boss (the cook), he went down with 7 hits... When I killed him the first time, it took me like 5min. Now I definitely feel overpowered, as I should be. Smile

Maybe i missed something but s there some sort of power rating for each weapon some sorta ranking. i do notice that some weapons are stronger then others but i do see where it indicates it other then noticing that the boss take diffrent levels of damage based on diffrent waepons.

You get better at say attack or speed or health as you level up but weapons are fairly on par with one another though of course some are much stronger, two handed gear tend to be better but is cumbersome and can't be stashed, expendable items like the drill bucket or those masks also tend to be powerful but you only have one use and I doubt it'll work good with bosses, combo weapons tend to be better than normal equipment as well but to get the full PP bonus you need the combo card but you can still create the item, there isn't much to compare against though outside of boss characters since normal zombies die fairly easily no matter what you use.
(A faster weapon might be effective like the gloves+spikes or boxing gloves+daggers or that light sword but durability could be a issue and a gun if one is used has a ammo limit, slower stuff as per above hit hard when you actually hit, paddlesaw or something reasonably fast with good reach kinda balances it out but it's cumbersome to carry around such things.)
