Is it possible somehow to unlock all social policies even if some of them contradict one another?

Some are mutually exclusive, so unlocking all is impossible. It might be possible with cheats etc.

You can unlock opposing branches like Piety and Rationalism and switching between them causes a period of anarchy, like in previous games.

But say you have three policies down the Piety tree. If you switch to Rationalism, do you get that many choices on that tree?

I'm not at my desktop computer so can't really help much atm but I had this prob and i solved it by editing a xml file (forgot the name) so it started in windowed mode ..

Can anyone direct him to the xml file i'm talking about ?

Also try and disable the intro movie as this has helped for some which is also in the xml.

Go to your Documents folder and My games. You should see the civ5 folder there. In that you will see UserSettings. Right click on it and edit. Find SkipIntroVideo = 0 and change the '0' to a 1. Exit and save.

See if that helps.

For windowed mode, I am not 100% on this but I think you can also edit the GraphicSettingsDx11 (or Dx9) and change the FullScreen = 1 to a 0.

new patch is out and seems to be fixing those never ending peace treaties:
Quote:

Updates to Sid Meier's Civilization V have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Modding - Installer and permissions fixes. Should address any remaining mod download and install issues.
Full screen crash fix. Game will now restart in Windowed mode if it cannot find a suitable full-screen resolution on first start.
Hall of Fame now records data correctly when using a Windows username with special characters.
Deal expiration fixes.
Fix for Puppet State production exploit.
Misc crash fixes.

Nope, but you don't lose the Piety choices either. You can switch back and forth if you like ,causing one turn of anarchy each time.

Random thought: Buy the game.

Seriously, it's worth it. Hell, it'd be worth it at 2x or 3x the price, since it's replayability (even without modding aspect ) is virtually infinite.

What version is this? And how will we mateys be able to benefit from these changes? Would the updated files need Steam-side re-validation and therefore a scene release, or would a kind soul be able to upload them somewhere for us?

It's 1.0.0.20
And since exes are CEG protected, they will not work when loaded with some kind of steam loader, if it is not machine from which they were legally downloaded from (encryption keyed to specific machine).

At least, that how I understand that protection.

P.S.
On the other hand, data assets (xml, texture changes and stuff) from new patches could be shared, since they are not protected.

Well at least Skidrow usually releases patches to steam games, not as often as you could wish but usually they come eventually. I will most likely buy the game soon though personally so doesn't matter THAT much to me.

man, after playing civ 5 replaying civ 4 complete stinks. Sad

the game doesn't hold up too well to time graphic wise. i did like it three years ago. some time it's best not to satisfy the nostalgia inside ya and just go with the fond memories. Very Happy

I miss being able to see the other civ's attitude towards you like in Civ IV.. How can you see that in Civ 5?? So far the only way I know of is by their posture towards you when you talk to them.

And on Social Policy.. If I adopt Honor, then Freedom I still get the benefits from Honor also right? As long as it doesnt state that it cannot be active with another policy (like i believe Honor cannot be active with Autocracy?).. Am I reading this right? lol
