I got a problem.
I can mount the game and install it and copy over the crack from /crack. But when i try to start the game it the hourglass comes up for 2 seconds and then dissapears, nothing happens. If i press ctrl-alt-del i can see that an ACTOFWAR.EXE is running as a process, but not as a program.
The only thing that i can see causing this is Norton Internet Security 2005. When I try to start the game, a box comes up asking me what to do, and i choose to always allow this game to access the internet. But if i reboot the computer, and try to start it again, the same thing happens and the same norton box comes up.

Does anybody know a solution for this problem?

Here's a step by step to rip the game. The example is base on my PC and the path where i put it.

Download i6comp here http://myplc.com/sony/bin/i6comp.zip?

1) extract i6comp.zip where you extract the iso (D:\Act of War DVD)
2) Click on Start--> all programs--> accessories--> command prompt
3) type the letter of the drive where you extract everything (D: )
4) now you should have D:\>
5) type i6comp l data2.cab
*if its not working go in your folder D:\Act of War DVD\Release and copy i6comp.exe and paste it in D:\Act of War DVD then restart the command prompt and retype the command at 5)

6) Type those lines to remove foreign language (french, german, italian, spanish)

i6comp d data2.cab 90 datav_fr.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 91 datas_fr.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 92 datav_de.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 93 datas_de.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 94 datav_it.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 95 datas_it.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 96 datav_es.dat

i6comp d data2.cab 97 datav_es.dat

7) When its all done just burn it by making a data DVD with the label AOW or make another ISO

*note that you are allowed to leave 1 other language there so you can have english/german or english/french....

I didnt delete anything else exept for german/italian/spanish and the file size was 4gig.

Hope this will help you.

Thanks it works
I deleted all languages and kept only english
So the final size is about 3,6 gb

Well i hate both...they are useless and create a shit load of problems...all you need is a good anti-virus (not norton or mcafee) and FireFox and you got pretty much the security you need...IMO firewalls are crap too....a firewall is like putting a huge, unbreakable lock on a glass door....if someone wants to com in...he will break the glass Wink

Is anyone else noticed any problems with the audio going out of sync with the video clips?
It's fine to begin with but then gradually goes wrong.

The same thing happens to me as well. Fine at the beginning, but slowly starts to go out of sync.

...and I'm wondering if there exists a crack for the update? Again, I DO NOT want to know where it might be or how to find it (not a request), I can do that on my own. It's just that I have *not* seen it in the groups or on the front page...and I'm desperately wanting to continue/play this game over, as my save games are rendered useless with the patch and it won't run *anyway* until I get paid and go pick this fine game up.

Which won't be AT LEAST for a couple more weeks! Crying or Very sad

Got to say that this is a very slick RTS. The integration between the action & the movies/briefings is first rate, better than the original C&C. Problem with low movie sound is weird. Can't see a patrol feature though which sux.

I still think the old C&C plot was better - tiberian fields, mad scientists, dastardly camp enemies, great FMV - Act of War is pretty boring with endless talk at the beginning about oil & energy <yawn>. And the enemies are Russian - they should have chosen Islamic fundamentalists!
Could have had great fun aka C&C Generals and the GLA - "I killed 3, I killed 4!, Victory in Death, Hah! America is only Tiger on Paper". etc.

Anyone finished this & can say how the story evolves?

Wrong, because money is used to buy and SELL oil, oil companies SELL oil to get MONEY, hence money is more important Wink but only a little bit Wink

Yah, Baleur, I gave it a whirl and it looks like I'll be doing a clean install of both this AND Silent Hunter 3.

Feh.

I was just holding out playing these two fine games because I wanted to play 'em with their respective updates. Foiled again! Sad

P.S.

Can't *wait* to pick these games up on payday, though... Cool

well, every game is short if you powerplay it, tough this game has 30 (or 30+?) missions, so be sure that its the last one u are on before claiming that Razz
And 30 missions is damn much for any game tbh Very Happy

I like it better than C&C Generals, it's basically the same but the graphics are better but it even runs better at the same time. Generals had a bad habit of slowing down all the damn time, you know it was just really slow especially in big multiplayer battles. Not like it was an FPS problem it was just slowed down to not make it stutter or something I guess and that was sooo annoying. AoW is always fast and the explosions rock

Red Thunder,

Dude! Shocked

There's a new OS out called Windows XP. It's pretty stable and it seems like a few game developers might actually port their games over to it from Windows 98.

You might wanna give it a spin.

Yours,

I get that strange error during install that says that datag2.dat may be damaged or something stupid like that when all files were ok in .sfv check!

Retried but no luck. Going to ignore and hope for the best though it can't be good that files can't be read!

Edit: Every file can't be read...!! Going to defrag and hope for better luck....If if still doesn't work then I don't know what to do.[/b]
