I was a big fan of the earlier Front Mission titles so I'm sad to see the strategy rpg transform into a third person shooter..

but well, I don't dislike third person shooters and I haven't played it yet so I'll definitely check it out before judging it. I do enjoy armored core too so maybe this can be good too, even if it's not what I really want from a front mission game.

This... I guess. I'm truly displeased with the new direction, but still; Armoured Core does rule. I'll give it a chance before I eternally condemn it

It's a damn shame it's not a turn based rpg warfare of the past, but, with any luck it'll still be good for what it is, even if I hold an unfair grudge against it for what it's not.

Btw I found out that Front Mission 5 (for PS2) which was only released in japan actually got a complete fan translation a few days ago and the same team is also working on translations for Front Mission 2 and Front Mission Alternative (PS1).

so for everyone who's craving for more front mission strategy goodness might want to look into that.

I'll try it as soon as the PC/PS3 version arrives. I most certainly won't waste a DVD-DL on it, even if I had any left. Front Mission this ain't Sad

You'd be wrong sabin. Front Mission this is. Front Mission just made Armored Core it's bitch. Ok maybe not. But look, I'm a huge Front Mission junkie and as much as I tried to hate this game, telling myself over and over 'this isn't front mission' once I got to the mech customization....I broke down. I would have loved a TBS/RPG just as much as the next guy, but for what this is, it's awesome.

Even if you don't like Front Mission, but enjoyed stuff like Armored Core and Mechwarrior, don't pass this game up. The mechs feel amazing to pilot. And they look great!

Shame their's no cockpit view.

Played the first 3 missions or so now and I must say I'm pleasently surprised.
Can't judge the story so far obviously but there's quite some dialogue, both in and between missions which I like very much. Definitely looks primising.

I especially like the sounds and graphic effects, gives the combat a very visceral feeling with the screen shaking on melee attacks and dodged missile impacts behind you sounding really awesome and stuff.

The controls/gameplay reminds me most of Mech Assault but it's faster and more dynamic. Not a lot of Armored Core in there which has much slower, more deliberate gameplay.


I'd still rather have a strategy front mission but this seems to be a pretty good game in it's own right. And hey, it's a third person shooter without a fucking cover system! Sweet!

It's not Front Mission. Same way it wouldn't be Final Fantasy if you made it into a match3 gem puzzler. You can't just arbitrarily change the entire structure of a game and still call it the same. Is it a fun 3rd person hyper-em-up with mech customisation like Armoured Core? Probably. Is it Front Mission? No.

SE should have titled it differently, IMO.

plain, bland - maybe a i'm missing something, but for me, this is another mediocre 3rd person shooter...

Just finished it. Great game, reminded me of good old Shogo: Mobile Armor Division. The missions when you run around as human without mech armor and Call of Duty AC-130 style episodes were a nice touch.

Give it a try, it's a fun game with a story, some emo shit and diversity. The previous one in the series (Armored Core something) was absolute crap, this one is good. The only possible issue is that sometimes you have to replay previous missions to get money for upgrades, but I guess every other Jap game has it.

Evolved is now, sadly, part of the same genre as Armoured Core.. but the REAL Front Mission titles are turn-based strategy RPGs.
