Pre-order and such will also allow to use the files to play it early but for emulation the proper NCF's might be required.

The game must really be awesome if the worst that people can complain about (apart from their techinical inaptitude) is how units can cross bodies of waters without slowing down.

Units obviously have to take time to embark / land on the shore. They did before and there is absolutely no reason why they should not do now. Loading/unloading to and from ships is always a lengthy process, compared to just going from A to B.

If it is not the case, then i declare bug and bet my non existing hat on the fact that it will be fixed soon.

The embarkation thing probably came about from the one unit per tile thing. In that case transports become sort of pointless so they created a movement penalty for embarking, an make moving embarking units risky by making them defenseless.

Well, ah, we have already pointed out how to easily foil harmful actions that'd stem from that. Though I agree that maybe the embarking process should take movement points. It's not really that pikemen simply hop onto surf boards and glide onto the water just like that.

I still don't get why they removed transports.
I get that it's proably because of the one unit per tile thing but they could've made transports an exception.
Btw. are there land/air transports? Don't think so, right?

Meh. whatever.

The idea sounds ok to me (the only issue is the problem presently discussed). It would cause a clusterfuck during a coastal invasion.

According to the manual, you can cram 3 air units into a flattop, and judging by a video, you can use airdrop to put paratroopers behind enemy lines.

Oh fuck. Shocked

And yeah, you don't see trucks nor transport planes either. Airlifts (and paradrops) have always been automatic as far as I can remember, and there's no such thing as motorized infantry in Civilization. Razz

That's actually an old trick, because most noobs have that option in Windows enabled to hide the extension.

If you have Steam or unpack it manually it gets most of it correct but does not include any EXE information, should you need them (Should be with the latest preload data though.) I could PM you them.

Steam_appid.txt with 8930 in it and these files over the encrypted data should allow it to run, just try not to let it update if it attempts as it'll redownload the encrypted data until it's official release tomorrow evening.
(Europe, Valve uses US times so for most of Europe unlocks are rather late, there's been exceptions though.)

EDIT: Ah the exe data differs as well, the real files will be needed for it to function and any last minute update that the packed archive does not contain, seems I was wrong.

Its one step of the way, a crack usually follows within 12 hours of a clone.

Dead Rising 2 would like to have a word with you
dead rising 2 has alot of encrypted files until the release date its not exactly the same deal as CIV V.

there seems to be a no group independant release on pirate bay thats suposed to work but ill wait until i can download a version on a proper site

Only the exe is encrypted, all other files can be accessed such as viewing the movies or unpacking the .big files this MultiFrame2 engine or what it was called is using, however that doesn't make it any easier.

To get back to this game the exe is fine but uses a update and those .dll files (EDIT: And whatever else got patched.) are thus needed to be updated along with it in order to run it (From what I've tested.) via the unpacked disc image data, might be a lot of files, which makes it a bit messy, unsure if a Steam loader or similar would work at all though.
(We'll see tomorrow when the EU release has passed I guess.)

Aye, thats why I transfered some money to a mate in the UK to gift me F1 2010 and Civ5. Fuck if I am gonna pay that much for new games.

I believe this gifting thing will continue in the future. Very Happy

I'm quite impatient myself, but I can't buy Civ5, I just can't.

If I buy it, then to get the DLCs I'll have to purchase them as well, since I wouldn't want to risk the system detecting unlawlfully-acquired packages and banning me from using the legit game altogether. And there's no way in hell I'm contributing towards DLC proliferation.

Fuck Steam.

What exactly do you mean by encrypted exe? If it'd only be that one file, wouldn't it be easily replaced with a decrypted one from someone who owns the game?

Or does Steam decrypt only parts of the file in memory every time the game is started?
