I liked it, was a bit toned down and will be very interesting to follow Al Capone and the other blond guy.
I was kinda amazed when the short guy introduced himself and for me it was quite a powerful scene to see the man who would eventually become one of the most notorious gangsters portraid as hired muscle.
Though I hate the boardwalk scenes because of how fake they look.

Nice to hear. It's always great if a show doesn't have to go all out batshit crazy to get viewers.

Mhm, they look too sterile so it kinda stabs you in the eye constantly, but if they keep them to short segments it'll be okay imo.

Wonder if they're gonna force Graham to cut his hair; Capone had pretty terrible hair (or lack of, rather) after all. Laughing

Meeh, I hope it picks up later, nothing really interesting for me.

*minor spoilers ahead*
I kinda lost the ball at the end, who got killed and why ? Who got screwed ? Who made money where did the booze go ? Who got framed ?

It was all thrown together at the fucking end with no dialogue for context.

The second episode was quite weak in my opinion. The story hardly advanced, little character exploration, no interesting dialog...meh. I'm still waiting for the hooks frankly, because so far I'm watching because it *might* be good, not because it is good.

Edit: Now that I think of it, there was one really nice scene in the casino.

I dunno, wasn't really that impressed with the 2nd ep. Agree with KGen that there just hasn't been much plot progression and it feels like the show is just treading water. Def. not on par with films like Goodfellas or Casino.

I've watched two eps, I'm yet again amazed with HBO's work. How the hell do they achieve such an authentic vibe with every single show?

Don't find it authentic at all. Many sets look cheap and overly colourful.

Not really. It's slow, but I think it'll pick up when Capone takes over. This is a show trying to portray the political and societal atmosphere. it is in no way comparable to movies liek Reservoir Dogs.

The show is good, really reminds me of Sopranos in how slow it is. I suspect it'll get really good - going to stick with it for at least this season!

The show is very good, and the "slowness" is a testament to the team's unwillingness to succumb to the "in your face, right here, right now" and artificial "coolness" mentality typical of TV and Hollywood nowadays. Smile

Yep iNatan, which reminds me of Soprano's again in that they didn't do that either.

Fingers crossed this stays good, and in someways gets better too!

LOVING this series so far. I've got an obsession with mafia related stories in general. Road to Peridition, Goodfellas, God Father, American Gangster (not so mafia but it still had the right mood) I own the whole series of Sopranos, while it was off on the mafia theme it was still great.

Watched all 5 episodes tonight and my god, best quote ever..

Good show so far (ep 3), i'm usually not a very big fan of this time period.

There's a few things that i don't like, why is Capone played by an english dude? He really doesnt fit. Would be ok if he at least looked a tiny bit american/italian, but he looks as english as they come. I also don't like the story around Schroeder, it's a really forced and preditable one, same goes for Jimmy. Overall, nothing really surprising so far, but still good acting, decent writing, really good art direction.

Cool to see Omar from The Wire, love that actor. However I highly doubt they used the term "motherfucker" to left and right back in the '20's like they do today.

I've been watching Dexter for some time, then heard about this. I haven't seen television like this in years, it's so really fucking good! The line between film and TV is getting blurry, awesome stuff!
