Well, scenarios are something that would be perfect for DLCs. Unlike things like extra civilizations.

I also absolutely despise scenarios. Being thrown into the middle of shit is not fun for me - I prefer to start from the ground up in every game.
But you've got a point. All the civilizations that are going to be included in the game need to be there from the outset - NOT DLC. Sad to see a great such as Sid Meir bend over and take it from the DLC train.

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Yeah it looks like that's most of what it updates, a lot of files but very small file size.
(Easy to sort it all by date and just check the latest or last modified but there's a lot of folders and files to go trough.)

My anticipation for this game is pretty high after experiencing Elemental. Just a few more hours until I can see for myself.

I'm not sure why all the anti-DLC sentiment. I mean Civ5 is already coming out with just as many civilizations as Civ4. Civilizaions were added in the many expansions of Civ4 and no one was complaining about that (the expansion to play online was very annoying however). I think additional civs makes sense in a moderately priced DLC. Say 3-5 for 9.99 or so makes sense. For a full fledged expansion for $30-$40, I'd want a bit more extra content.

@PickupArtist
Civilization never had that feature, iirc.
So while, yes, it would be nice it's not a feature that I miss or have ever thought about in the context of a civ game.

Correct. Like in Civ4, you can probably mod in civilizations, or most certainly customize the name, adjective, ruler name, etc. of whichever default civ you choose (saw that on one of the preview broadcasts). It's been like that since Civ3 at least.

I'm pretty sure I saw the option to create a custom civilization during the 2K presentation last week.

From a technical standpoint you could do this already if you had the slightest bit of insight into modding the game.
