This video is fantastic and deserves to be on this page of the thread, too. At first I was like, "eh, it's alright." Then I was
Notch has to be ecstatic with all the viral marketing and word-of-mouth press this game is getting. Every forum I visit has pages of discussion on this game.

@moosenoodles
I was more referring to the sauna part but whatever.
It's ok he's looking for whatever with bigger companies but I dunno maybe he should suspend updates until he's got something and not put up some bullshit.
with half useless stuff (fishing rod anyone?) and crashes beyond believe.
And then you get the website stuff so dunno.
At times he seems like he's this lone guy living in his own basement not caring what the world wants.

I still love the game. It's freaking awesome.

Bit harsh really, living in his basement? maybe he was dunno - either way the guy has gone from zero to hero in like no time and has in reflection to most of us here im sure an obscene amount of wonga into the kitty...
Now with a sudden turnaround like this and with paypal suspending his account for suspicious activity due to the large influx of cash I think he should be cut some slack to start with due to the now workload he has under him to progress the game. when not so long ago he was soldiering along at his own pace due to no pressures..
@moosenoodles
Not saying that.
But how about he just suspends his "secret friday updates" instead of handing out crap that, like said before, is a) useless and b) partly bug ridden?
Yes, then the fans would have bitched as well.
Or maybe he could have given the website/server responsibility to someone else.
I don't think his sales figures would have prohibited him from doing so.
Point is he's not developing the game since yesterday and the rise to fame isn't all that sudden or unexepected.

he was and at a later time hinted about unlocks achievements etc.. so id say hes already done the deal really..
@Reklis :- Well I still think give the guy some slack rope to start with the new found success before hammering him to death at full bore like hes been ur typical high end dev/publisher..
Lets face it here notch is only the ex main dev from wurms online I think its not much of a road to success so far is it, probably has no real major skills for something as big falling on his head..
Let him get the traveling and discussions with corps out the way first, he even said in his blogs he would rather forget the talks and get on the game again but its not that simple when your cash is tied up, you must follow up the plans for the new company and get hiring that takes time and im sure hes got other priority stuff as well we dont know about..
I just dont see the point in whining about his moves so far, some of the forums ive been on reading are utterly disgusting in the way they been talking.. like they have the god given right so soon to start bitching, when before the success everyone on forums were not so critical..
Lets not go down the its in alpha stage, he should of released it I think without purchase to play as alpha that way he can cut the crap with those that say hey I gave u monies!! where is my fixes.. etc etc..
But then again pay now a few euros or later full price your choice i guess..
how long does one wait in this situation to see major update arrive? no idea really but for the handful of coins it cost me and the fun I get out of it with my server and others, I dont really care so much right now, not to mention the mods and apps that are already available with it in alpha..
Of course each to theyre own opinion and all that... Just watch this space I guess, think he has already a few team members now hired and the art/ideas director seems to be on the ball and looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table on this simple but addictive game.
And at the end of the line if he dont pull it off he will hang himself with that extra slack rope i mentioned..
I can't get the sound to work. I can only download the minecraft.exe client from their website and there's nowhere to put the resource files I downloaded from this thread on page 18 or 19. Any ideas?
Really? Java is a very good programming language! How dar u!
I mean you are using C# yourself and you know how similar both languages are!
And while C++ is mostly used in the game development I would NEVER say that java is inferior. Java is not meant to be that fast, it's about the logic of the language itself.
C# is very far from Java actually, other than being fully object oriented and garbage collected. It is much closer to C++ in its broad usability, while still maintaining manageability. Java on the other hand is a gimped cripple with no identity. The simplest things require jumping through hoops - for example handling of simple Observer-based events, like pushing a GUI button, requires creating a listener class with methods just to handle click. Everything is so archaic, it's just mind-numbing. And because it's all tied to backwards compatibility nonsense, no major concepts can be introduced without making the tardo dinosaurs cry. Sun couldn't even introduce properties! And how hard was it to introduce rudimentary concepts such as generics and autoboxing? I was studying Java at the time, so I remember all the drama surrounding them. (And of course, they chose one of the worst methods of generics implementation, surprise surprise.)
The fact that Sun is adopting concepts from .NET speaks volumes.
Even performance of the .NET Framework is now comparable or better in some cases even superior to C++. Say the same about Java.
Now that Mono is as strong and complete, there is really no excuse to using Java, outside of the niche enterprise market, and .NET is pushing strongly in that direction also.
With C# 4.0 being dynamic as well, it is in a class of its own. Meanwhile in lala-land, Sun might introduce properties in Java in 2050.
Of course, when I say "Java", it's either the framework itself or the programming language. Just use the one that fits in context.
