'Would you like to have the StarCraft movie?'... and say we have this great hour and a half of linear video that we'd like to make available to you at a $30 or $20 price point, you'd have the biggest opening weekend of any film ever," Kotick said.
how could anyone possibly say this wont make huge money, when fuckloads of people are willing to fork out money... real money... for a couple of fucking new in-game weapons or a couple of multiplayer maps!
activision is being smart by recognizing the massive stupidity of modern day mainstream 'gamers'.
what is it to you guys anyway? you'll just pirate them.

I'm a troll! well done, you caught me lying my ass off on a forum. I post pictures so that it makes you angry and that you wish you could have my awesome material things
Nothing that hasn't been done before or that other studios aren't thinking about.
Gabe Newell recently said that while they don't feel confident giving the ok to a movie studio to make a HL movie, they might make it themselves in Source, similar to the TF2 shorts.
"If we were to take that hour, or hour and a half, take it out of the game..."
hes talking about the prerendered cinematics made for the game, but making them available as a standalone stiched together film.
and if that ISNT what he means, then hes getting himself confused and saying the wrong thing... because hes clearly talking about extracting the video 'out of the game'.

Pretty much this seeing how Activision publish games with the stupidest fans. I mean a freakin ornamental horse made millions for god's sake.
GUYS you simply don't get the idea ... few examples up to date that used this concept :
DEAD SPACE DOWNFALL (animated comic and a intro cartoon)
Date's Inferno
see EA did it no one bitched Activision wants to do it for future titles people bitch... wtf is wrong with you
The man is practically begging to be pirated. He must be addressing this forum directly in a subliminal way, trying to explain how important it is to him that there exists a powerful incentive to get around paying for his products.
the stupid thing is, i honestly think its a GOOD Idea.
i just think his method is fucked... 20-30 bucks? hes dreaming... but 5? have you seen the quality of the cgi in many prerendered cgi sequences these days? theyre fucking stunning... an hour... 90 minutes of THAT stuff, stiched together, without needing to load the game or seeing it in shitty second-hand quality, would be pretty cool if the price was right.
so yeah... good idea, but the guy is delusional @ the price hes suggesting.

I take it he means something similar to the image quality of SC2's cinematics.
Because SC2's cinematics as they currently are, with gaps in the story etc, won't ever sell for 20-30$ as he suggests.
He must be talking about making a proper movie.
Also SC2's prerendered cinematics are only 13 minutes or so, so he definitely doesn't mean this.
and like i said, either he means cinematics or hes saying it wrong, because using words like 'take it out of the game' and 'linear video' just dont apply to making a proper movie 'from scratch'.
and if he thinks 'making a movie' is a novel and excitingly innovative idea, someone needs to break it to the poor guy that hes been somewhat 'beaten' to it... just a tad
if the company were to distribute a movie directly to consumers' homes, "an extremely high percentage [of consumers] would then go to the theater then watch it again. That's the nature of our consumer -- a very enthusiast consumer."
SC2's cinematics would never be released on theaters unless it's a proper movie.
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
Someone needs to give a dictionary to Kotick. I do understand his idea (like the Advent Children example that was already given) and think that's actually good, but oh boy, he really sucks at PR.
What he want to say is to make machinama out of the games (something that Blizz already does on a short scale) and sell them.
Activision considers closing down Bizarre Creations (Blur / James Bond: Bloodstone) after failing to find a interested buyer.
(Comments suggests time spent looking for a interested buyer was inadequate but I have no idea, both games were a bit so-so though I don't know what else they've released.)
