I thought it was good that Batiatus and Lucretia died. They were really good, well played and interesting characters, but they have served their purpose! Now with Spartacus and his band of slaves roaming free we will surely get to follow the higher class of people in Rome, and no doubt the legatus

i actually feel symphaty for Asher. i mean, he was betrayed and mocked by his Gladiator "Brothers" and raised up from being a dirt low slave to something as close as free as can be.
wawrzul: "hot link fail" much? or someone removed the picture? :< ...
T.
Hmm, works for me...
Still, i put in another "mission failed" pic
@Sin317
Yeah, but Ashur behaved so low compared to gladiators that spilled their blood to get closer to being free. Guess he had no choice having Batiatus as dominus though.

You do realize that this was no a fictional event, that their deaths really happened, and therefore had to occur in the show? I mean the suspense was nonexistent if you paid any attention in history class.

about Asher, remember , he WANTED to go back to his *brothers* and go back to being a Gladiator, but neither batiatus wanted it and the other gladiators still mocked him.
He's called Ashur for a reason, he's from Syria, previously Assyria.
And Assyria = Ashur in ancient hebrew, and other Mesopotamian languages probably as well.
Can't wait for next season and indeed great news he recoverd so fast. I thought production was halted for a year and we would get some kind of prequel instead.

And that's what's gonna happen. One of the creators said in an interview (after Andy's recovery) that the prequel will be first and the second season of Spartacus. There were some minor spoilers of Spartacus season 2 in the interview as well (not sure what it was though)
Cant wait!
This shocking news that he needs aggressive treatment for a recurrence of cancer was made public today by Starz cable network and the Spartacus: Blood and Sand star himself, Andy Whitfield. He was first diagnosed with treatable Stage 1 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in early March. But recently the actor had been in remission and training hard for Season 2. He even attended the Spartacus panel at Comic-Con where he said he felt "better than ever". His first diagnosis put production on hold for the next season while he underwent treatment. He was given a clean bill of health in May.
To bridge the two seasons of Spartacus, Starz greenlighted the prequel Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, which is now filming in New Zealand and will premiere in January as planned. However, the future of the mothership series is unclear. Production on the second season was supposed to start soon.
Starz is exploring its option to recast the lead role in "Spartacus."
With star Andy Whitfield unexpectedly having to resume treatment for non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, sources say the network has begun talks with casting directors about possibly finding another actor to take over the show.
Though the actor would most likely play Spartacus, another, much less likely, possibility involves re-shaping the series around a new central character. If no suitable candidate is found, Starz and producers may opt to delay or cancel production.
The decision to audition other actors was made in conjunction with Whitfield, who is said to support the series continuing forward.
Even if the second season begins shooting without Whitfield as Spartacus, producers are searching for some way to have the actor remained involved in the show. Any credit will also ensure that Whitfield remains an employed member of the production.
During Whitfield's first round of cancer treatment, Starz put production plans on hold and crafted a prequel mini-season that did not require Whitfield until his doctor gave the actor an all-clear. Filming on the prequel is currently underway in New Zealand, with the second season scheduled to start production immediately afterward. With Whitfield having to undertake a new round of "aggressive" cancer treatment, the network must either recast the title role quickly -- within the next eight weeks -- or halt production.
The decision to potentially recast, sources say, was not made easily. Starz executives, along with members of the cast and crew, have been devastated by this turn of events and would prefer to keep Whitfield in the role.
But there's several financial realities to be considered, too. "Spartacus" is the network's first and only breakout original series. DVD sales on the just-released first season are tracking strong. Plus, there's the rest of the cast and crew of other "Spartacus" employees awaiting word on whether their jobs will continue. Delaying production could potentially mean losing key actors or writers to other opportunities.
I think they should have Crixus be Spartacus. As in, everyone knows Spartacus's name but no one apart from the ones in the gladiator school actually know how he looks (+ Illithyia and his husband - later in the season they could find out and it'd be another problem for the rebellion to solve). So something happens to Spartacus and they decide Crixus should take his place to keep the rebellion alive. You could then introduce any number of new characters in the form of people joining the rebellion, and it would be much less awkward than trying to simply recast Spartacus.

And the thousands of people who saw him in the arena?
If Crixus is supposed to stay in the show to the bitter end, I'd rather have him stay as Crixus and have someone awesome take over Spartacus. Think it would be silly if Crixus suddenly was Spartacus.
