DNF uses UE2. Actually a very heavily modified UE2, with almost all of their parts replaced. The renderer has been replaced, the physics engine has been replaced, the lighting model has been replaced, and so on. Unreal Script is the only thing that's left. It's not much different from Source which has it's origins on Quake 1, but pretty much everything has been replaced by now.
The design document of the game is completed (and I think it was leaked), and according to the rumor Kotaku started and is pretty confirmed as fact by now a playable demo will be released in 2011.
From what I've read I estimate that development must have stopped at 80+%

I think that Gearbox's day is Sunday. I suppose that today the game will be announced and a trailer will be released while on Sunday perhaps it'll be playable at their booth.
