Now I have to wait until monday at least... Somebody kill me! lol

Maybe the game will be released this weekend (or monday, if the Direct2Drive version is crackable), so you can keep your money and get the release as well Smile

The more I read about it, the more negativity I'm feeling.
Useless radio messages, 5 day patrol max and then back to port for 1 month MINIMUM just to rearm, no extension of patrols (like when you're out in the zone, finish the patrol, get a radio message saying spotted ship x going in xyz direction).
Just sail to the zone, sail back, sail to the zone, sail back.

Now, I haven't played it yet (Tuesday), but its lookin bleaker the more I read before I've even gotten it. Urge dying quickly.
Anyone wanna repute the above stated?

huh ? u dont have to sail there sail back

All the missions so far have been "Goto x for y hours then come back"

HOWEVER.. if u wanted to be a noob and stealth it all and not make any contacts u prolly could...

and i dont know what ur talking about 'No extension of patrols" .. cause u do.. if u radio back to base saying u have x ammount of fuel and y ammount of torpedos then they may give u a order to do something else..

Basically ur aim is to get lke experience and sink the most toonage...

U could go do a patrol and sink nothing and come back to base.. but your not going to get any tonnage sunk r u ?

For example.. my last patrol was to go up to a certain grid.. go there for 48 hours then go home..

ok 48 hours was up.. did not sink anything.. so i could

A) Go home Finish mission
B) Do whatever i want untill i have no fuel left..

So i decide to go to the south of england to see if there are any ships coming over from america/canada.. what do i see ?? a convoy of about 50 ships with destroyers covering it.. uh oh.. so i hide in wait.. as the convoy passes..> BOOM... i hit one merchant.. does not sink... but is crippled.. then i see a destroyer turn towards me and start firing at me.. oh fuk.. it takes out my periscope.. i cant see shit!.. i dive dive dive dive.. and well to cut a long story short.. i got my ass handed to me Razz

basically u are free to do what u want in the game...

The whole aim is

A) To sink as much tonnage as u can
B) To earn respect.. (i cant remember what its called) and u do that by completing missions .. and u spend that respect to upgrade your uboat/buy a new one.. then eventually transfer to a diff squad for diff places in the world etc..

so i dont know what u mean about 5 days max... cause thats not true.. u can go for as long as u have fuel.....

See, that in itself is kinda bullshit. When U-Boats went out on patrol, they were out there for WEEKS at a time, not 24-72 hours Razz

So basically its 12 patrols in one year, and the game spans from what, 1939-1944?
Can you play PAST 1944?

If not, then the entire career mode consists of a max of 72 patrols?

Also, is there some sort of faction system? If I concentrate on ONLY England ships for example, do they gun for me more than others? What if I turn and attack axis ships?

Still trying to figure out what options I'm gonna leave checked for realism. I honestly dunno if I can handle that manual aiming deal, as cool as it sounds. Math isn't my forte Smile

Personally I wish they had spent more time implementing little details that make the game more entertaining and realistic. For example, real ports, not just placeholders...you can storm an enemy port and will find maybe one ship protecting it, no mine fields, no cargo ships docked in port, nothing actually happening, just a static port defended by one ship if your lucky.

I could care less about this dynamic campaign, waste of dev time if you ask me, I would rather they had created 20 or 30 branching missions that are hand-crafted, rather then this random crap.

Multiplayer is where this game shines, unfortunatly this ready button issue is KILLING the multiplayer game, and they need deathmatch + destroyer command!

why would u not want a dynamic campaign ? thats the coolest thing.. its like a endless game.. and everything u asked for will come in custom missions.. have a look in the editor.. u can add mine fields.. and ship nets... etc etc etc ...

The game ends 1945.

Seriously - the majority of your reservations will be resolved in single player missions (and they have the added benefit of using the same shipping routes as the campaign so you don't even have to add anything other than the player ship for the world to be populated).

This means: you can populate the ports with land/air/naval units and do other stuff you want (although the game does have in place some basic cover in this regard). I'm hoping the mod community will open this game up as well with any luck and there is a remote possiblity of a decent patch appearing to add things rather than just fix (they are working on patch number 2 for a fact, but whether it's just fixes I don't know).

If you merely focus on the negatives your going to disappoint yourself for sure. There is quite a few little niggling things missing that were present in older subsims like SHII itself, and there are some things that game actually did better. The hydrophone for example - but I'm not going to torture myself when the rest of the game is so enjoyable. I'm squarely laying my hopes on the mod community, patches, expansions and Silent Hunter 4.

The "Ready" button isue can be fixed by ALT+TAB'ing out and in again..

and please guys..
read my "TryMedia" post..
TryMedia can be cracked..
It was done before, so why shouldn't it be possible again?

oh and btw.. DO NOT buy the D2D aka TryMedia version..
It will only give you trouble..
Problems patching etc..

I am not sure what are you trying to say. But in case you are limited, SH3 DVD uses starforce 3.4.x protection, it does not use starforce proactive. Now, as far as the Downloadable SH3 off places such as D2D they limit number of installs either with their own system or possibly starforce proactive, I am not sure. However, I just wanted to make sure you understand SH3 DVD can be installed as many times as you want.

Wohooo! I got it! And it rocks just as much as I hoped it would. Haven´t got any war stories yet, I´m only in Naval Academy so far, but this game is the best that´s hit the market in a very long time.

But I got a little problem already: I´ve made through several examinations, but the navigation examination is the problem... Where is that damn channel I should navigate through? I tried almost every channel in that area.. Can someone with the game please give me the coordinates or something to specify the location?

Well, back to the sea again, and to the dev´s: THANKS!!!

You just gotta move south-south-east SSE. Pay attention to radio messages because they tell you what to do. Press M to view radio messages. Speed up the time if necessary till you hear what to do next.

what to attack? small fishing boats ?
or when, if i go on patrol do i wait to attack untill i reach the grid?

As far as identifying goes - I let my officers do all that work so far. I've not yet had time to master 100% realism but kudos to anyone who dives right in. I'd imagine it's a combination of visual contact and the use of the ship recognition manual (or simply your memory if your good)

You don't attack fishing boats, you want to get merchant vessels that carry cargo and you can deviate from your patrol if you wish, you don't have strict orders in that regard. Your out to sink as much as you can with as little torpedeos as you have. Just don't bite off more than you can chew.

Cruising speed.. I'm not sure exactly but ahead standard seems fine. Maybe someone can give you the official answer but I like to run as slow as I can in order to retain as much fuel for when I get into business. Have to use TC a lot then though.

Fanstyg: The channel is behind you. Your Uboat will be pointing in some direction - well the channel you are supposed to go towards is in the opposite direction and you'll see maybe some fast German boats coming up from that direction.

You have to use your radio really, keep an eye on the messages and what you need to do.

Screenshots I believe is CTRL+F11 while Frames Per Second Display is Ctrl+F8.
Or it could be the other way around. It'll dump the shots somewhere in the game dir, not sure where.
Also, the DEL key on the numpad will toggle your interface on and off. Turn it off for those cinematic shots.
Man, I've been reading the forums way too much while waiting for it.

I think, going by what you said there then - CTRL+10 will save an animatic. I've heard of this but not tried it. Turning off the interface is very neat, but you need speech recognition to play with it.
