Actually the engine is one of the better features. There was clearly a lot of love put in it. It is some of the best winter and night depictions in game. Shame this love got wasted by 2K.

They probably spent the last year removing the content from the game and putting it into DLC's, as this game looks pretty much the same from what we all knew from the trailers and so on...

The engine was superb imo, only the view distance needs to be improved. My HD4850 wasn't even stressed that much, so there's a lot of room for improvement. Adding a higher view distance and AA to this engine would make it perfect for a sandbox game.

Oh I don't know, lack of AA (and the AA option in the menu does not count as that's not AA, but blurring). Massive blur on objects that are more than 100m away, not that it displays stuff much further than that, but still. Character models look quite bad, lack proper facial expressions, lots of clipping. Especially the facial expressions bummed me, because in a game where there's such a focus on story and character involvement, you kinda want your characters to actually express the emotions their voices get across.

Don't get me wrong, they got the atmosphere done perfectly like Leo says, but also like you say, it doesn't stress your hardware at all, meaning there is a TON of room left for improvement. Cars look good, there's a lot of attention to detail all around - but things like lacking proper facial expressions kind of negate that for me.

Usually bad for me equals uninstall after 5mins play, like the recent K&L2.

I finished it because I kept hoping it would grow beyond all that. Now afterwards it's clear they cut half the content, meaning they might've just cut the good bits to milk the hype a bit more with DLC :E

Well, it was bad.

Half the game felt like an interactive movie. Well sorry, but I don't pay 30€ for watching a movie, nor for
 Spoiler:

The other half was way too short.
Add the numerous locked missions / options and you have the fail of the year.

Glad I haven't bought that.

I thought that was caused by the crack and not the game itself, at least that's how I understood it. But yeah, I hope it's the game and not the crack cause then it might actually get fixed. Very Happy

That's not a bad game. That's a good game that fails to me more 'cause of corporate greed (aka dlc's). Yes some story elements fail, yes the close combat is retarded, and yes the game is to short, but it's still a good game, with great atmosphere, major attention to detail, that has the possibility of being great after some dlc's and mods.

Keyword being 'possibility'. It has potential, sure. But it's just not a finished product, definitely not worth the 50 euros the game costs here in retail shops. See, I really don't mind short games like this - if they're priced accordingly. Steam is full of them. Problem is that this game is supposed to be a triple A title, but it's not. Parts are finished and good, but the majority isn't.

I've said it before, there's a lot I really like about Mafia 2 (atmosphere, voice acting, music, cars and their handling) - but none of that is actual gameplay, of which there is just too little. Now, Mafia 1 didn't have much more for the most part (although it did look better for its time than Mafia 2 does now), but what it did have for me was a much more engaging story, and one that fits from start to end. It also wasn't hyped to be the singleplayer experience of the decade, and then cut into pieces to make more money.

I always assumed he drove the car over a bridge and jumped on a garbage barge, that's what they do in movies anyway.

What's the point of refueling at gas stations, I don't see no fuel gauge?

Seems like the only place worth robbing is the guns store.

Simulation driving mode probably, there's a little marker under the speed gauge that looks like it could warn on low fuel.

I've run out of fuel once and had to use one, but I don't know where's the gauge either.

See this is getting to be more and more of a problem. Supposedly AAA games selling at full price with stripped out features, with the idea of selling the rest of the game as DLC to squeak as much money out of us as possible. I think it's a reprehensible business practice; the sad thing is 80-90% of buyers (I'm looking at you, console players) are completely oblivious to the fact.

I enjoyed the demo but didn't even bother downloading this, never mind buying it. I wonder how long it will be before piracy is blamed for poor PC sales. You know, instead of the reality, which is people like me who can't afford to splash out money on games all the time, so I download them as demos. If they are good they get bought, if not... well you know the story.

In your speedometer, the little thing at the bottom. I'd screenshot it, but I don't have it installed anymore Razz

It's really hard to read because they used such a crappy quality image (at least it's hard to read @ 1080p on a 22" monitor), but it's definitely there. Look for a few red pixels moving from right to left, about a quarter from the bottom, right in the middle of the speedometer. There's also an orange light that'll light up if you run low on fuel, had it happen to me just once Smile

The fuel gauge is right under teh speedometer. You'll see a white stripe moving left, to the "empty" position, over time. Eventually you'll see a light blinking, indicating you're almost out of fuel.

If you played with the V3 crack and now playing with Skidrow crack, you have to start over. V3 saves are not compatible with skidrow version.
